SEMINAR PROPOSAL GUIDELINES


(Chapter 4: Formation)
I. TITLE
 Who Joins & Who Stays: Building Connection by Group Formation

II. RATIONALE
 A group is a combination of different individuals with different beliefs,
experiences, and perceptions. In accordance to that, people chooses whether
to join a group or not. Their choices could lead to formation. This proposed
seminar entitled, "Who Joins & Who Stays: Building Connection by Group
Formation" aims to have a concrete relation using interaction with other
people. From strangers, turn into acquaintances and into friends is a process
that everyone must know spontaneously. Due to various personality traits,
sometimes, it's hard to communicate and to gain relationships. However, this
seminar will provide information to better understand how a group forms and
stays longer.

III. OBJECTIVES
 To understand deeper about the anxiety, attachment, & motivation within
social group
 To learn about the beliefs and experiences in dealing with other members in a
group
 To help an individual affiliate in a healthy group
 To allow the individuals find their sense of belongingness
 To determine different principles of attraction
 To understand why certain people are satisfied/dissatisfied with their own
group

ICEBREAKER ACTIVITY
TITLE Tao-Bahay-Bagyo Game
o To form a house with two other persons.
OBJECTIVES
o To break the ice and get the participants to know each other
better through a fun and interactive game.

1. Form a group consist of 3 people.


2. Once the trio have been formed, they decided who would be
the 2 people who would form the house or bahay (by holding
their hands together), and the person or tao who will be
staying in the middle.
3. The facilitator then explains that he will chant the lines “Tao,
Bahay, Bagyo” so on and so forth. Until such time it stops on
a specific word.
4. If the word is ‘Tao’ the person in the middle runs away from
PROCEDURE his/her house and finds another pair who are forming a
house.
5. If the word is ‘Bahay’ the two-person forming the house will
go look for another person to shelter him or her by keeping
the person in the middle.
6. If the word is ‘Bagyo’ then everyone forms another group to
form the same setup regardless if they were a person or
house.
7. The winner will be chosen from the final six participants.

The Tao-Bahay-Bagyo Game requires the participants to work


together and communicate effectively to follow the commands
and find partners and houses. This can help to break down
barriers and create a sense of camaraderie within the group. The
group process may involve developing trust, building
relationships, and promoting teamwork.

GROUP PROCESS Guide Questions:


1. What are the obstacles that you encounter during the
activity?
2. What's important lesson you've learned after the activity?
3. How will you apply the lesson you've learned in real life
situation?
4. Is it easier to do some things alone or with companion?

BY-GROUP ACTIVITY 1
TITLE Straw Tower
o To build the tallest freestanding tower using only straws
within a given time frame.
OBJECTIVES o To build a group communication and problem-solving
strategy

1. Divide the group into their respective teams


2. Give each team a pack of straws
3. Explain the objective and rules of the game to the
PROCEDURE participants.
4. Set a time limit for the activity (5 mins).
5. Allow the teams to plan and build their towers.
6. Once the time is up, measure the height of each tower.
7. Declare the winning team based on the height of their tower.

During the activity, the group members will need to communicate


effectively with one another to come up with a plan and build
their tower. They will also need to collaborate and work together
to ensure the tower is stable and can stand on its own. The
group process may involve problem-solving, decision-making,
and leadership skills.

3. What are your takeaways from the activity?

BY-GROUP ACTIVITY 2
TITLE Egg Drop
o To preserve and protect the egg and construct a structure
that will keep a raw egg from breaking.
OBJECTIVES o Brainstorm as a group to generate ideas and demonstrate
inventiveness.

1. To protect, each group will have toothpicks, marshmallows,

marshmallows for each group.


3. The group's strategies for using the materials provided will
determine how they protect the egg. NOTE: the groups
cannot add nor takeaway something from the materials.
4. After the egg has been covered, it will be dropped from a
person standing on a chair to see if it is protected.
5. The group whose egg survives is the winner.
The group process of an egg drop activity involves brainstorming
different ideas, collaborating to design and build the structure,
thinking creatively to come up with a unique and effective
design, communicating effectively and respectfully, problem-
solving to protect the egg from breaking, and evaluating the
GROUP PROCESS process and results after completing the activity.

V. PROGRAM METHODOLOGY
 This seminar will be conducted face-to-face on April 21, 2023, in Room 302 at
Taguig City University. The program methodology for the seminar proposal on
"Who Joins & Who Stays: Building Connection by Group Formation" involves
several key steps. First, a needs assessment will be conducted to determine
the target audience and their specific needs related to building connections
within a social group. Next, a program plan will be developed that includes the
program objectives, goals, activities, timeline, and resources needed.
Program delivery will then take place, utilizing a variety of methods such as
lectures, interactive activities, and group discussions that encourage
communication, collaboration, and problem-solving, while creating a safe and
welcoming environment for participants to share their experiences and learn
from one another. Following the program delivery, a program evaluation will
be conducted to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Finally, participants will be provided with resources and support to continue
building connections within their social groups after the seminar, which may
include access to online resources or opportunities for participants to connect
with one another outside of the seminar.
