This is a glossary related to mechanical engineering:

1. Accelerometer: Device for measuring acceleration - usually based on piezoelecric

materials. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
2. Brushless Moto: A DC motor that performs commutation through electronic means,
as opposed to traditional mechanical means. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
3. Capacitor: Electrical charge storage device. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
4. Diode: An electrical device that will only allow current to pass through in one
direction. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
5. Electromechanical systems: Systems that combine electrical and mechanical
components, often used in mechatronics to achieve desired motion or functionality.
(flashcardmachine, 2011)
6. Feedback: The act of returning part of an electrical or mechanical system back to
the system that generated it. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
7. Gear Pump: A pump, used for viscous fluids, that uses gears to move fluid.
(flashcardmachine, 2011)
8. Hydraulics: Systems that use the displacement of fluids to create mechanical work.
(flashcardmachine, 2011)
9. Inductor: An electrical device that resists change in current and creates a magnetic
field proportional to the current. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
10. Joints: Mechanical components used to connect and articulate different parts of a
mechatronic system, such as robotic arms. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
11. Kinematics: The study of the motion of mechatronic systems and their components.
(flashcardmachine, 2011)
12. LED: Light-Emitting Diode: a diode that glows when current crosses it in a specific
direction. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
13. Mechatronics: The field of integrating both mechanical, electrical, and electronic
design into a complete, coherent device. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
14. Nanotechnology: The use of extremely small-scale materials and components in
mechatronics to achieve novel functionality. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
15. Optics: The use of light and other electromagnetic radiation in mechatronic systems,
often used for sensing and imaging. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
16. Photodiodes: A light-sensitive semiconductor diode. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
17. Quality control: The use of testing and inspection techniques to ensure that
mechatronic systems meet desired performance and reliability standards.
(flashcardmachine, 2011)
18. Resonance: Vibration of a system at its natural frequency. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
19. Saturation: Moving an electrical amplification or other system to the point where
nonlinear behavior starts governing the system. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
20. Transducers: Devices that convert one form of energy into another, such as
converting electrical signals into mechanical motion. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
21. Ultrasonics: The use of high-frequency sound waves in mechatronic systems, often
used for sensing and imaging. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
22. Virtual reality (VR): The use of computer graphics and other technologies to
simulate and visualize mechatronic systems and their behavior. (flashcardmachine,
2011)
23. Wearables: Mechatronic devices worn on the body, often used for health
monitoring, fitness tracking, and other applications. (flashcardmachine, 2011)
24. X-ray imaging: The use of X-rays in mechatronic systems, often used for non-
