CYBER ATTACKS
Mehmet Dursun İnce
Hello, my name is Fatma Demir. I have prepared a report about the
Ted video titled The Risk Brought by the Digital World: Cyber Attacks
with Mehmet Dursun İnce as a speaker. First, I will give you
information about Mehmet Dursun İnce and then I will give you
information about the content of the video.

Who is Mehmet Dursun İnce?

Mehmet İNCE still continues his duty as the Senior Penetration

Tester of Invictus Europe. İnce is known to be involved in the field of
cyber security since 2004. Especially, he has been recognized with his
researches and experience in web applications/servers. He has also
worked in a wide variety of projects as a developer and security
consultant. So far, İnce has discovered and published security
vulnerabilities in more than 150 open source applications. Most of
these findings are still available on exploit-db, as well as İnce’s blog
page, where he shares his ideas about current security issues and
offer his contributions to global security community.

General Information on Cyber Security and Its Attacks

Cybersecurity is the protection of computer networks, data, and
other electronic information from being accessed, corrupted, copied,
destroyed, or damaged. The term has been used since the 1960s, but
the first international conference on cybersecurity was held in
Sydney in 1997. Today, both public and private organizations are
interested in cybersecurity issues. The main goal of cybersecurity is to
improve system performance by reducing operational risks and
maintaining system integrity. Cybersecurity is an emerging field that
relies on the integration of different technologies and methodologies
to address a wide range of threats. Some of these threats include
malware, hacking, denial-of-service attacks, and data corruption. The
rapid development of information technology has increased the
scope of cybersecurity so much that it has now become a major
concern for most countries. While cybersecurity is a global issue,
there are varying standards for the protection of information in
different countries. Developed countries have a much easier job
when it comes to protecting their data from nation-state
cyberattacks. Cybercrime has become one of the most common
threats of our time; hackers break into computers and phones to
wreak havoc by stealing data or creating viruses or spreading child
pornography. When employees misuse company resources for
personal gain, many organizations suffer from insider threats. That's
why it's so important to keep both internal and external systems safe
from cyberattacks. There are many ways in which cybercircles can
attack your personal information. Some ways to access information
are phishing, social engineering, and zero-day exploits — all three
techniques used in nation-state-sponsored cybersecurity attacks.
Phishing is when fake emails are sent to appear to be coming from
banks or other organizations that contain vital information. Social
engineering is when a person is forced to give away their confidential
data using fear tactics. And zero-day exploits are unannounced
vulnerabilities that can be exploited by anyone for malicious
purposes; these were developed by the government to carry out top-
secret missions. Both public and private organizations around the
world have found themselves victims of massive cyberattacks over
the past few years. These include government websites, banks,
media outlets and even educational institutions, causing serious
financial losses worldwide, as well as serious disruptions to vital
systems. It's important to note that not all cybersecurity breaches are
caused by nation-state hackers; Malware created by independent
actors has also recently played a major role in the destruction of
many organizations. As far as we know, no one has yet created a
perfect defense method against cyber-attacks; however, since there
are similar challenges encountered in other areas, such as defense
against conventional attacks or biohazards, it may not be impossible
to create one. Therefore, taking measures such as increasing
awareness of potential dangers among employees and implementing
adequate security solutions will certainly help prevent major cyber-
attacks in the future.

General Information on the Topic Mentioned in the Speech

Mehmet Dursun İnce, who talked about his journey to cyber
security, which started with computer games in his childhood, shares
with us his memories on cyber-attacks and malicious software, which
are the risks brought by the digital world. His intense interest in
computers since childhood introduced him to cybersecurity at a
young age. Due to his interest in this field, he won Sakarya University
Computer Engineering Department. In 2012, while he was still a
university student, he founded Prodaft company with his friends and
moved to Istanbul to realize his dreams of proactively detecting
cyber-attacks long before they took place. During this period, İnce,
who has conducted numerous security researches on many critical
systems and software that are especially famous in the global sense,
shares his work in the field of cyber security in many national and
international events. Mehmet Dursun İnce, who is known throughout
the world for his work on 0th day security vulnerabilities, which are
not yet known by anyone, continues his business life as the founding
partner of Prodaft company.
In the past, the "I love you" virus would come to computers as an
email, and when it clicked, it would duplicate people's emails and
send them again. This has been a dominating development for
Mehmet Dursun: People click on things they are curious about.
Today, it is a method still used by state-sponsored hackers. An email
is sent to the targeted person and their information is compromised.
Another breaking point for Mehmet Dursun was the hacking of the
website he prepared in high school. From this incident on, he was
constantly interested in cybersecurity. University 1 at the end of the
class, he found himself working in the information technologies
department of Sakarya University. His company with his friends
about today's cyber security technologies also started during his
university years.

As a result, we must change the way we look at the world and be

open to innovation and know how to protect ourselves against
attacks.
