Conceptual Framework

Bullying negatively impacts students' academic performance through decreased classroom participation and engagement due to fear and loss of self-confidence from being bullied. The study will use social capital theory to analyze how bullying undermines relationships and human capital development in the classroom, thereby reducing academic performance, by examining whether prohibiting bullying can boost self-confidence, class participation, and performance.

Figure 1. A schematic diagram of how bullying affects the academic performance of students using the
Social Capital Theory.

Bullying have been contributing in the decrease of classroom participation among bullied
students. According to Mbah Mbah(2020), a higher level of bullying is connected with the Academic
disengagement and poor academic performance in school. Bullied children usually live in fear which
affects their self-confidence, resulting in their regress in socializing and participating in the class.

This study will use the Social capital theory to analyze how bullying affects students’ Academic
Performance in school. Social capital theory asserts that social relationships are means that might
potentially lead to the improvement and accumulation of human capital such as if a stable classroom
environment where bullying is prohibited can support the development of students’ self-confidence and
participation in the class which can contribute in the improvement of his Academic Performance.
