Electromagnetic Spectrum

The document is a daily lesson log for a science class covering the electromagnetic spectrum. The objectives are for students to compare wavelengths of EM waves and describe the different regions in terms of size, wavelength, frequency, and energy. Activities include arranging EM waves in order of these characteristics and discussing their definitions. Formative assessment includes multiple choice questions testing understanding of energy, order, and properties of the different EM wave types. The teacher will assign researching effects of EM wave exposure. Reflection addresses numbers of students who achieved objectives or required remediation and strategies for improvement.

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson The teacher will start the lesson by showing the different types of EM waves
or presenting the new lesson written on meta strips. Then the teacher will ask learners “What can you
(Elicit)(5mins) remember about these words?”
Possible answer: They are the types of EM waves.
B. Establishing a purpose for The teacher will Ask some students to arrange the meta strips according to
the lesson (Engage) their own preference of sequence. Then, let them share to the class their
reason for such arrangement.

skills #2 (Explain) (5mins)

During the discussion, the teacher will show correct sequence of the different
types of EM waves and discuss the following concepts about the
Electromagnetic Spectrum:

 Electromagnetic spectrum is a continuum of electromagnetic waves

arranged according to frequency, wavelength and energy.
 It is a gradual progression of the waves with lowest frequencies to
waves with highest frequencies.
 According to increasing frequency, the EM Spectrum includes: radio

(Leads to formative gamma rays.
assessment 3) (Elaborate)  With regards to wavelength, radio waves can be compared to the size
of football field while gamma rays are as small as nuclei of an atom.
 The different types of EM waves are defined by the amount of energy
carried by or possessed by the photons. (Photons are bundles of wave
energy. The energy of photon is given by the equation: E=hf, where h is
Planck’s Constant and f is frequency of a wave. The value of Planck’s
Constant is 6.63x 10-34 joules per second.
 From the EM waves, the gamma rays have photons with high energies
while radio waves have photons with lowest energies.

G. Finding practical The teacher will ask learners “How will you describe the different regions of
application of concepts and EM Spectrum?”
skills in daily living
Possible answer: The different regions of EM spectrum vary in wavelengths,
(Elaborate)
frequencies and energies. Among them, the radio waves have the longest
wavelength but lowest frequency and energy while the gamma rays have the
shortest wavelength but highest frequency and energy

The teacher will ask learner What is EM Spectrum?

H. Making generalization and Possible answer: EM Spectrum is a continuum of electromagnetic
abstraction about the lesson
