Introduction

Notion of
function sheet
In order to commission Sepam 2000, settings are entered via the PC
computer and then sent to the Sepam 2000.
There are three categories of settings or parameters for Sepam 2000.
Each category of settings is split into functions. The SFT2821 software
presents each function in the form of a function sheet. The 3 categories of
settings are:
 "status" parameters, for example:
 Phase CT – E/F sensor,
 VT ratio
 Communication
...
 "program logic" settings and parameters.
The settings and parameters are grouped together in two data sheets:
 Timer
 Parameters
"protections" settings. These settings are grouped together in several
function sheets marked F01 to F99.
There may be one or more protection sheet relays. Each relay is covered
by a tab. Each tab is marked Fxxy in which xx is the function number and
the relay number.
For example:
 F014: relay 4 of sheet F01
F181: Sheet 18 (there is only one relay for this function)
In the rest of the document, the expression "function sheet" may relate to
"Status", "Program Logic" or "Protection".

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 5

Introduction

Cartridge reference
The presence of the "status" parameters and the protection function
settings depend on the hardware set-up of the Sepam 2000.
Parameters that are modified by the user are logged in setting files in a
user-chosen directory, selected at the time the data are saved.
The user chooses the location and name of the setting file. The setting file
suffix is mandatory and is forced to ".rgl".
The “Setting” directory is the default directory proposed to users when
they save file settings on their disks. During such save operations, users
may:
 select another directory,
subdivide the directory into sub-directories according to hardware set-
ups
When a new setting file is entered, the SFT2821 software proposes the
selection of a reference from a list of Sepam 2000 cartridge references.
When a new setting file is entered, the parameters of the different sheets
and relays are defined with the application’s default parameters.
They are not used by Sepam 2000.
The list of cartridge references recognized by the software is frozen.
However, there are cartridge references, noted "4xxZ00" or "6xxZ00", for
which all of the protection sheets are defined with a maximum number of
relays. This allows users to prepare the setting files of customized Sepam
2000 units.

The format of setting files, as well as the format of the file containing the
list of cartridges, are proprietary formats. These files therefore cannot be
used outside the SFT2821 software.

Conditions for use

The PC supporting the SFT2821 software is physically connected to the
Sepam 2000 using the ACE900 connection kit presently delivered with the
SFT2801 terminal emulation software.
The SFT2821 software only operates with Sepam 2000 compatible
applications, i.e. Sepam 2000 S26 and Sepam 2000 S36 applications
later than 99xx. It does not operate with earlier applications, or with
Sepam 2000 S46 applications. Any attempt to use SFT2821 with a non-
compatible application is indicated and does not disturb the application.

Graphical interface

General layout
The SFT2821 software is of the SDI (Single Document Interface)
type, which means that is only possible to open one setting file at a
time.
It is possible to start up the software several times, with the
program being executed in different Windows™ windows. This
makes it possible to consult different setting files in parallel.
The SFT2821 software has a standard Windows™ application
window, consisting of:
a title bar which includes the usual buttons (system menu, shrink,
expand, close). This bar indicates the name of the application (here
SFT2821) which is to be completed by the name of the active
setting file (here 4LSW05), if there is one, and the type of sheet in
progress (here "status" type).
 a menu bar described further on;
 a toolbar described further on;
a work area containing the function sheets described further on.

The screen design is based on a minimum screen resolution of

800x600 points.
The SFT2821 application is intended for customers in various
countries. The data displayed in the screen are in the language
chosen by the user.

Managing setting files

Creating a new setting file

This function allows the user to create a new setting file based on the
default parameters of the application. These parameters can then be
modified later on.
The function is activated via the menu bar ("New" submenu) or via the
toolbar.
The SFT2821 software asks the user to select a cartridge reference from
a predefined list of references:

After the cartridge reference has been selected (OK button), the SFT2821
software displays the first "Status” sheet.
The name of the selected cartridge appears in the title bar.
If the user activates the "Cancel" button, the main screen is displayed.
If a setting file is already open, the SFT2821 software proposes saving of
the settings in the current file if a modification has been made, and
closing of the file:

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 12

Managing setting files
Opening a setting file
This function is used to consult and/or modify settings in an existing file.
The function is activated via the menu bar ("Open" submenu) or via the
toolbar.
The SFT2821 software asks the user to select the desired setting file via
a standard Windows™ dialogue window.
The user selects the setting file using the "Open" button. If the user
presses the "Cancel" button, the main screen is displayed again.
The suffix of the setting file is always ".rgl”.
If a setting file is already open, the SFT2821 software proposes saving of
the settings in the current file if a modification has been made, and
closing of the file.
The setting file contains a data item indicating the cartridge that was used
during the definition of the file ("New" function). The name of the cartridge
appears in the title bar.
If the cartridge reference is not in the list of cartridges recognized by the
software, the following message is displayed. After confirmation of the
message, the main screen is displayed again.

The SFT2821 software checks the validity of the sheet parameters

defined for the current hardware configuration, in the setting file. The
different errors are indicated to the user in an error window.
If the user tries to use the data contained in the setting file, via the
SFT2821 software, the application may be shut down upon the activation
of one of the software functions.

Closing a setting file

This function allows the user to close the current setting file. It is activated
via the menu bar ("Close" submenu).
If a setting file is already open, the SFT2821 software proposes saving of
the settings in the current file if a modification has been made, and
closing of the file.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 13

Managing setting files
Saving a setting file
This function is used to save the Sepam 2000 settings:
in the current setting file ("Save" function),
or in a new setting file ("Save As" function)
The function is activated via the menu bar ("Save" submenu) or via the
toolbar.
The "Save" function is only allowed:
if one of the parameters has been modified in the current setting file.
Saving is done in the current setting file.
if there is a new setting file ("New" function) and the data have not been
saved in a setting file.
For new setting files for the “Save” and “Save As” functions, the SFT2821
software asks the user to indicate the file name and directory in which it
should be saved, via the following dialogue window:

The suffix of the setting file is always ".rgl.”

The SFT2821 software runs a check and informs the user if the save is to
take place in a file that already exists. The user then has the option of
refusing the save operation.

Messages indicate any errors and, in such cases, propose retrying the
save.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 14

Managing setting files
Comparing setting files
This function is used to compare the contents of two Sepam 2000 setting
files. The files must use the same cartridge reference.
The function is activated via the menu bar (“Compare” submenu)).
The "Compare" function is may be used if no setting files are open.
The comparison function request the user to choose the two files to be
compared.
To start up the comparison, the user activates the "Compare" button.
The result of the comparison can be of three types:
 The setting files are identical,
The setting files are incompatibles, i.e. the references of the cartridges
used in each file are different.
The setting files use the same cartridge reference, but show
differences in the function settings. In such cases, the comparison
function lists the functions for which there are comparison errors.

A setting entered in two different ways generates an error. For example, a

time delay set to 50 ms in one file and to 005 s in the other file generates
a comparison error.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 15

Printing

Introduction
This function is used to print the active setting file.
Printing takes place on the default printer, defined in the
Windows™ control panel.
Printing errors (e.g. paper missing) are reported to the user via the
print manager (outside SFT2821 software).

Print
This function is activated via the menu bar (“Print” submenu) or via
the toolbar.
The function may only be accessed after a setting file has been
opened.
Print format
The print format is as follows:
 on the first page:
a designation indicating the reference of the cartridge used to
initiate the setting file,
 file name,
 current date.
parameters that correspond to the "Status" sheets. A "Status"
designation precedes the printing of the "Status" sheets.
For each "status" sheet:
a hyphen is printed between the sheets,
 the sheet designation is printed,
each parameter in the sheet is then printed on a different line in
the following form:
'parameter name' = value of the ‘unit’ parameter'
settings that correspond to the "Protection" sheets.
A "Protection" designation precedes the printing of the sheets.
The settings are printed:
 sheet by sheet,
relay by relay for a sheet.
The print format is the same as that described previously.
N.B. Certain access conditions are defined in the sheets (e.g.
"Number of VTs"). If access is prohibited, the parameters will be
printed but the value of the parameter will be replaced by “Setting
impossible".
protection settings and parameter settings that correspond to the
“Program Logic” sheets. A “Program Logic” designation precedes
the printing of the sheets.
An example of a printout is given in the appendix.

Consulting and modifying settings

Principle
Consultation and/or modification of settings may be accessed after
the opening of a setting file or after the creation of a new setting
file.
In the rest of the document, the term "consultation" refers to both
consultation and modification of settings.
The user consults the settings by accessing a function sheet.

Displaying a function
The settings specific to a function are presented to the user in the
form of a “function sheet” contained in a “tab box” in the center of
the screen.
For the "Status" or "Program Logic" function sheets, a tab box with
a single tab is used, with the tab representing a “Status” function or
a “Program Logic” function respectively.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 18

Consulting and modifying settings

For the protection functions, a tab box with several tabs is used.
The tab identifies the Sepam 2000 function number and the relay
concerned. There are as many tabs as there are relays present for
the function.

Certain sheets have access conditions. In that case, a message is

displayed in the center of the sheet in the place of the settings to
indicate the reason for the refusal of access.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 19

Consulting and modifying settings

Presentation of
settings
The settings are displayed in the screen, according to the case:
in the form of a data item composed of a “Value” field and “ Unit”
field.

The "Value" field is a numerical data entry zone in which the user
may enter 3 significant digits at the most. The entry of a decimal
point in this field is allowed.

The "Unit" field is a pull-down list in which the user can

choose the data unit.
With this presentation, it is possible to enter a data item in different
forms. For example, a data item entered as 450 A is equivalent to
the item 0.45 kA.
in the form of a numerical value followed, if necessary, by a data
item indicating the unit. The unit, in this case, is frozen.

or
The user can enter 3 significant digits at most for this type of value.
According to the type of value, it may or may not be possible to
enter a decimal point. For example:

 entry possible:

 entry prohibited:

different choices possible. This principle is used for settings for
which there are four options at the most.

with corresponding to the current value

of the setting.
in the form of a list of possible choices. This principle is used for
settings for which there are more than 4 options.

It is possible to move from field to field by pressing the "TAB" key

on the keyboard.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 20

Consulting and modifying settings

Modifying settings
Each function sheet includes two buttons "OK" and "Cancel".
Whenever one of the fields displayed in the screen is modified by
the user, the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are activated, and all
of the other functions of the SFT2821 software, activated via the
menu bar and/or the toolbar, are disabled.
Pressing "OK" triggers a consistency check (see below) and, if
everything is OK:
the new values of the sheet are taken into account. The new
setting values are logged in the PC memory. The user should then
save all of the modifications in the current setting file ("Save" or
"Save As" function),
the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are no longer active,
all of the SFT2821 software functions are enabled again, except
for software customization.
When "Cancel" is pressed:
the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are no longer active,
the modifications of the sheet displayed are cancelled,
the values prior to the modification are displayed,
all of the SFT2821 software functions are enabled again except
for software customization.

Rounding off values

The setting value that results from data entry may be rounded off to
a lower value. Rounding off depends on the setting. It takes place
at the time that the function settings are confirmed ("OK" button).
The new value of the setting is displayed in the screen, after
confirmation. For example, rounding off may be:
to 10 ms for a time delay.
A delay of 176 ms is therefore rounded off to 170 ms
to 1 A for a phase current value,
to 0.1 A for an earth fault value,
 ....

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 21

Consulting and modifying settings

Setting consistency
check
When a function sheet is confirmed ("OK" button), the SFT2821
software runs a semantic check of the settings.
This check may concern:
consistency between the various function settings,
consistency of the settings with respect to the Sepam 2000
general settings.
The semantic check of the settings is carried out with the rounded
off value of the settings.
The sheet settings are only stored in the PC memory if the results
of the semantic checks linked to the function sheet are OK.
Error messages are displayed in an error window.
The error designation indicates the following:
name of the sheet with the error and the relay with the error,
 mnemonic of the erroneous setting,
 a designation describing the errors,

Press the "OK" button in this window to go back to the current

function sheet.
For Status function sheets, in addition to the checks run on the
sheet settings, semantic checks are run on all the functions, with
indication of any errors. An error in another function does not call
into question the storage of the Status sheet settings.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 22

Consulting and modifying settings

Accessing sheets
Only the function sheets defined in the cartridge associated with
the setting files may be consulted.
The "Status", "Program Logic" or "Protection" designation appears
in the title bar, to the right of the name of the cartridge.
Direct access to records
When a setting sheet is opened, new menus are displayed in the
menu bar:
the "Status" sheets are accessed via the "Status" submenu of
the "Sepam" menu. This submenu lists the sheets associated with
the cartridge reference.

the "Protection" sheets are accessed via the "Protection"

submenu of the "Sepam" menu. This submenu lists the protection
sheets associated with the cartridge reference.

the "Program Logic" sheets are accessed via the "Program

Logic" submenu of the "Sepam" menu. This submenu is always the
same, regardless of the cartridge reference.

When the user confirms his/her choice in one of the submenus, the
contents of the corresponding setting sheet are displayed.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 23

Consulting and modifying settings

Moving within a category of sheets

Using the toolbar, the user may move from sheet to sheet within a
category of sheets.
If the current sheet being consulted is of the "Status" type,

and are used to consult the settings in the “Status”

sheets that follow and precede the “Status” sheet being consulted,
If the current sheet being consulted is of the "Protection" type,

and are used to consult the settings in the "Protection"

sheets that follow and precede the “Protection” sheet being
consulted,
If the current sheet being consulted is of the "Program Logic"

type, and are used to consult the settings in the

"Program Logic" sheets that follow and precede the “Program
Logic” being consulted,
The sheets are accessed in a circular manner, i.e. at the end of
the list, the user goes back to the first sheet.
Returning to a category of sheets
By means of the toolbar, the user can move to another category of
sheets:

is used to consult the last "Status" sheet consulted. This tool

may only be accessed if the sheet currently being consulted is not
of the "Status" type.

is used to consult the last "Program Logic" sheet consulted.

This tool may only be accessed if the sheet currently being

is used to consult the relay in the last "Protection" sheet

consulted. This tool may only be accessed if the sheet currently
being consulted is not of the "Protection" type.
If no sheets in the category were previously consulted, consultation
via the buttons is focused on:
the first sheet in the category,
the first relay in the sheet for “Protection” sheets.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 24

Transferring settings

Principle
There are 3 types of transfer functions.
The role of the functions is to transfer all the Sepam 2000 settings from
the Sepam 2000 to an image file on the PC disk:
downloading of Sepam 2000 settings from a particular setting file. This
function is activated via the "Download (PC -> Sepam 2000)" submenu.
downloading of Sepam 2000 settings with default setting values. This
function is activated via the "Download Default setting file" submenu.
uploading of Sepam 2000 settings into a setting file. This function is
activated via the "Upload (Sepam 2000 PC)" submenu.
Prior to all transfer operations, the SFT2821 software asks the user, if
there is a setting file being modified, if he/she wants to save the
modifications on the disk.

In any event, the SFT2821 software closes the current setting file again
before performing the data transfer.
Before carrying out a transfer operation, it is necessary to:
connect the PC to the Sepam 2000 using the ACE 900 connection kit
(See "ACE 900 connection kit" section),
indicate to the software the communication port via which the data is to
be transferred (See "Choice of the communication port" section),
make sure that the Sepam 2000 is compatible with the SFT2821
software (See "Conditions for use" section).
The SFT2821 software can detect a large number of cases of errors. The
errors are displayed in error messages. Following confirmation of the
messages by the user ("OK" button), the transfer function is canceled and
the main screen is displayed again.

SFT2821 - Installation - Use 03144389EN-A0 25

Transferring settings

Whatever the transfer function and the transfer phase under way, when

Transferring settings

Identification
Whichever transfer function is selected, a Sepam 2000 identification
phase takes place at the very beginning of the transfer operation.
The purpose of this phase is to:
 initialize the communication port,
 dialogue with the Sepam 2000,
check that the Sepam 2000 version is compatible with the SFT2821
software,
check the reference of the cartridge to be downloaded against that of
the setting file (case of downloading from a specific setting file),
enter and then send a password for downloading operations.
Throughout the Sepam 2000 identification phase, a window with a
percentage of progress is displayed.

The user has the possibility of interrupting the function under way by
pressing the "Cancel" button.
If the SFT2821 software is unable to configure the communication port

If connection errors or a missing link are detected, the SFT2821 software

displays the following message:

If the SFT2821 software detects continuous receiving during the Sepam

2000 identification phase, it displays the following error message:

The compatibility of the Sepam 2000 with the SFT2821 software is

determined by means of a Sepam 2000 identification request. If the
Sepam 2000 does not respond to the request, the SFT2821 software
displays the following message:

If the Sepam 2000 is identified, for downloading operations from a

specific setting file, the SFT2821 software checks the compatibility
between:
 the Sepam 2000 cartridge reference,
the reference of the cartridge contained in the setting file to be
transferred.
If there is a difference, the SFT2821 software displays the following
message.

It is then possible to continue the transfer function ("Yes" button) or else

Downloading function

Downloading from a particular setting file and downloading from a fault

setting file are almost identical.
The downloading functions do not check the contents of the setting file
transmitted to the Sepam 2000, but simply that the transfer has taken
place correctly.
Before performing the downloading operation, the SFT2821 software
asks the user to confirm downloading, indicating that the Sepam 2000
settings will be lost.

The user has the options of:

continuing to download by pressing the "Yes" button
interrupting the function by pressing the "No" button.

If the user answers yes, and if it is for downloading from a particular

setting file, the SFT2821 software asks the user to indicate the file name
and directory, via a dialogue window:

The identification phase described previously then takes place.

asks the user to enter a password in the window below. The password
consists of 4 to 7 digits. The characters are display as "*" as they are
entered. The user confirms the password by pressing the "OK" button.

If the user enters less than 4 characters, a message appears. The user
can then enter the password again.

The password is transmitted to Sepam 2000 for verification.

If the password entered by the user is different from the password
recognized by Sepam 2000, the SFT2821 software informs the user.
The user can enter a new password (“Yes" button), or stop the operation
in progress ("No" button).

If the password is correct, the SFT2821 software performs the actual

downloading.
During this phase, the SFT2821 software displays a window showing
progress, with a data item in the title bar of the window that indicates
whether the operation concerns the downloading of default settings or
downloading from a particular setting file.
For downloading from a particular file, the name of the file to be
downloaded appears in the title bar of the window.
