Notion of
function sheet
In order to commission Sepam 2000, settings are entered via the PC
computer and then sent to the Sepam 2000.
There are three categories of settings or parameters for Sepam 2000.
Each category of settings is split into functions. The SFT2821 software
presents each function in the form of a function sheet. The 3 categories of
settings are:
"status" parameters, for example:
Phase CT – E/F sensor,
VT ratio
Communication
...
"program logic" settings and parameters.
The settings and parameters are grouped together in two data sheets:
Timer
Parameters
"protections" settings. These settings are grouped together in several
function sheets marked F01 to F99.
There may be one or more protection sheet relays. Each relay is covered
by a tab. Each tab is marked Fxxy in which xx is the function number and
the relay number.
For example:
F014: relay 4 of sheet F01
F181: Sheet 18 (there is only one relay for this function)
In the rest of the document, the expression "function sheet" may relate to
"Status", "Program Logic" or "Protection".
Cartridge reference
The presence of the "status" parameters and the protection function
settings depend on the hardware set-up of the Sepam 2000.
Parameters that are modified by the user are logged in setting files in a
user-chosen directory, selected at the time the data are saved.
The user chooses the location and name of the setting file. The setting file
suffix is mandatory and is forced to ".rgl".
The “Setting” directory is the default directory proposed to users when
they save file settings on their disks. During such save operations, users
may:
select another directory,
subdivide the directory into sub-directories according to hardware set-
ups
When a new setting file is entered, the SFT2821 software proposes the
selection of a reference from a list of Sepam 2000 cartridge references.
When a new setting file is entered, the parameters of the different sheets
and relays are defined with the application’s default parameters.
They are not used by Sepam 2000.
The list of cartridge references recognized by the software is frozen.
However, there are cartridge references, noted "4xxZ00" or "6xxZ00", for
which all of the protection sheets are defined with a maximum number of
relays. This allows users to prepare the setting files of customized Sepam
2000 units.
The format of setting files, as well as the format of the file containing the
list of cartridges, are proprietary formats. These files therefore cannot be
used outside the SFT2821 software.
Kit components
The ACE 900 connection kit delivered with the SFT2821 software
consists of:
1 Sepam 2000/ RS232 interface box,
1 PC / interface serial connection cord.
Connection
The interface should be plugged into the inlet on the front panel of Sepam
2000, behind the small flap door. The other end is connected to the COM
1, COM 2, COM3 or COM4 communication port (whichever was selected
at the time of installation) on the PC.
The communication port is chosen via a configuration menu.
Sepam 2000 front panel
It is mandatory for the ACE 900 connection kit supplied in the SFT2821
kit to be used to connect the PC and Sepam 2000.
The use of any other cord, or the absence of the interface, could cause
Sepam 2000 operating difficulties.

General layout
The SFT2821 software is of the SDI (Single Document Interface)
type, which means that is only possible to open one setting file at a
time.
It is possible to start up the software several times, with the
program being executed in different Windows™ windows. This
makes it possible to consult different setting files in parallel.
The SFT2821 software has a standard Windows™ application
window, consisting of:
a title bar which includes the usual buttons (system menu, shrink,
expand, close). This bar indicates the name of the application (here
SFT2821) which is to be completed by the name of the active
setting file (here 4LSW05), if there is one, and the type of sheet in
progress (here "status" type).
a menu bar described further on;
a toolbar described further on;
a work area containing the function sheets described further on.
Activating a screen
object
Screen objects may be activated in three ways:
using the mouse, by clicking the right button on the required
object (button, list...),
using the PC keyboard, by pressing the following combination
of keys ("Alt" and the letter underlined in the screen). For
Behavior
Upon activation, and then during operation, the items in the
menu and toolbar that are not available are disabled (dimmed).
The same applies, generally speaking, to all the checks used by
the application, in particular those of the function sheets.
The SFT2821 software complies with the usual operating rules
for Windows™ applications, which are not described in detail
here. If need be, readers should refer to the documentation that
comes with their computers.
Activating the
application
In the Windows™ program manager, "double-click" on the SFT2821 icon
Menu bar
Access is gained to the different functions of the SFT2821 software by
means of the menu bar. The meaning of the different functions is
described further on the document. There are four different types of
menus:
"File" menu
It contains the usual file management commands.
"Sepam" menu
"?" menu
This menu is used to display the software version number.
Toolbar
The SFT2821 software functions are accessed via the toolbar:
the icon corresponds to the "New" submenu defined previously,
the icon corresponds to the "Save" submenu defined previously,
the icon corresponds to the "Print" submenu defined previously,
The user can move from sheet to sheet as follows:
After the cartridge reference has been selected (OK button), the SFT2821
software displays the first "Status” sheet.
The name of the selected cartridge appears in the title bar.
If the user activates the "Cancel" button, the main screen is displayed.
If a setting file is already open, the SFT2821 software proposes saving of
the settings in the current file if a modification has been made, and
closing of the file:
Messages indicate any errors and, in such cases, propose retrying the
save.
Introduction
This function is used to print the active setting file.
Printing takes place on the default printer, defined in the
Windows™ control panel.
Printing errors (e.g. paper missing) are reported to the user via the
print manager (outside SFT2821 software).
Print
This function is activated via the menu bar (“Print” submenu) or via
the toolbar.
The function may only be accessed after a setting file has been
opened.
Print format
The print format is as follows:
on the first page:
a designation indicating the reference of the cartridge used to
initiate the setting file,
file name,
current date.
parameters that correspond to the "Status" sheets. A "Status"
designation precedes the printing of the "Status" sheets.
For each "status" sheet:
a hyphen is printed between the sheets,
the sheet designation is printed,
each parameter in the sheet is then printed on a different line in
the following form:
'parameter name' = value of the ‘unit’ parameter'
settings that correspond to the "Protection" sheets.
A "Protection" designation precedes the printing of the sheets.
The settings are printed:
sheet by sheet,
relay by relay for a sheet.
The print format is the same as that described previously.
N.B. Certain access conditions are defined in the sheets (e.g.
"Number of VTs"). If access is prohibited, the parameters will be
printed but the value of the parameter will be replaced by “Setting
impossible".
protection settings and parameter settings that correspond to the
“Program Logic” sheets. A “Program Logic” designation precedes
the printing of the sheets.
An example of a printout is given in the appendix.
This function is activated via the menu bar (“Exit” submenu) or via
the title bar ( icon).
If a setting file was open before the function was activated, the
SFT2821 software proposes saving of the modified data in the
current setting file, before stopping the application.
Principle
Consultation and/or modification of settings may be accessed after
the opening of a setting file or after the creation of a new setting
file.
In the rest of the document, the term "consultation" refers to both
consultation and modification of settings.
The user consults the settings by accessing a function sheet.
Displaying a function
The settings specific to a function are presented to the user in the
form of a “function sheet” contained in a “tab box” in the center of
the screen.
For the "Status" or "Program Logic" function sheets, a tab box with
a single tab is used, with the tab representing a “Status” function or
a “Program Logic” function respectively.
For the protection functions, a tab box with several tabs is used.
The tab identifies the Sepam 2000 function number and the relay
concerned. There are as many tabs as there are relays present for
the function.
Presentation of
settings
The settings are displayed in the screen, according to the case:
in the form of a data item composed of a “Value” field and “ Unit”
field.
The "Value" field is a numerical data entry zone in which the user
may enter 3 significant digits at the most. The entry of a decimal
point in this field is allowed.
or
The user can enter 3 significant digits at most for this type of value.
According to the type of value, it may or may not be possible to
enter a decimal point. For example:
entry possible:
entry prohibited:
in the form of a list of boxes to be checked off indicating the
different choices possible. This principle is used for settings for
which there are four options at the most.
Modifying settings
Each function sheet includes two buttons "OK" and "Cancel".
Whenever one of the fields displayed in the screen is modified by
the user, the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are activated, and all
of the other functions of the SFT2821 software, activated via the
menu bar and/or the toolbar, are disabled.
Pressing "OK" triggers a consistency check (see below) and, if
everything is OK:
the new values of the sheet are taken into account. The new
setting values are logged in the PC memory. The user should then
save all of the modifications in the current setting file ("Save" or
"Save As" function),
the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are no longer active,
all of the SFT2821 software functions are enabled again, except
for software customization.
When "Cancel" is pressed:
the two buttons "OK" and "Cancel" are no longer active,
the modifications of the sheet displayed are cancelled,
the values prior to the modification are displayed,
all of the SFT2821 software functions are enabled again except
for software customization.
Setting consistency
check
When a function sheet is confirmed ("OK" button), the SFT2821
software runs a semantic check of the settings.
This check may concern:
consistency between the various function settings,
consistency of the settings with respect to the Sepam 2000
general settings.
The semantic check of the settings is carried out with the rounded
off value of the settings.
The sheet settings are only stored in the PC memory if the results
of the semantic checks linked to the function sheet are OK.
Error messages are displayed in an error window.
The error designation indicates the following:
name of the sheet with the error and the relay with the error,
mnemonic of the erroneous setting,
a designation describing the errors,
Accessing sheets
Only the function sheets defined in the cartridge associated with
the setting files may be consulted.
The "Status", "Program Logic" or "Protection" designation appears
in the title bar, to the right of the name of the cartridge.
Direct access to records
When a setting sheet is opened, new menus are displayed in the
menu bar:
the "Status" sheets are accessed via the "Status" submenu of
the "Sepam" menu. This submenu lists the sheets associated with
the cartridge reference.
When the user confirms his/her choice in one of the submenus, the
contents of the corresponding setting sheet are displayed.
Principle
There are 3 types of transfer functions.
The role of the functions is to transfer all the Sepam 2000 settings from
the Sepam 2000 to an image file on the PC disk:
downloading of Sepam 2000 settings from a particular setting file. This
function is activated via the "Download (PC -> Sepam 2000)" submenu.
downloading of Sepam 2000 settings with default setting values. This
function is activated via the "Download Default setting file" submenu.
uploading of Sepam 2000 settings into a setting file. This function is
activated via the "Upload (Sepam 2000 PC)" submenu.
Prior to all transfer operations, the SFT2821 software asks the user, if
there is a setting file being modified, if he/she wants to save the
modifications on the disk.
In any event, the SFT2821 software closes the current setting file again
before performing the data transfer.
Before carrying out a transfer operation, it is necessary to:
connect the PC to the Sepam 2000 using the ACE 900 connection kit
(See "ACE 900 connection kit" section),
indicate to the software the communication port via which the data is to
be transferred (See "Choice of the communication port" section),
make sure that the Sepam 2000 is compatible with the SFT2821
software (See "Conditions for use" section).
The SFT2821 software can detect a large number of cases of errors. The
errors are displayed in error messages. Following confirmation of the
messages by the user ("OK" button), the transfer function is canceled and
the main screen is displayed again.
Whatever the transfer function and the transfer phase under way, when
the SFT2821 software detects a transmission error (e.g. parity error,
overflow error, damaged connection cord, Sepam 2000 disconnected or
de-energized, incorrect version of Sepam 2000...), the following error
message is displayed:
If the SFT2821 software can no longer transmit to Sepam 2000 (error due
to the communication port), the following error message is displayed:
In the case of errors, the SFT2821 software tries to put the Sepam 2000
back into normal status.
Identification
Whichever transfer function is selected, a Sepam 2000 identification
phase takes place at the very beginning of the transfer operation.
The purpose of this phase is to:
initialize the communication port,
dialogue with the Sepam 2000,
check that the Sepam 2000 version is compatible with the SFT2821
software,
check the reference of the cartridge to be downloaded against that of
the setting file (case of downloading from a specific setting file),
enter and then send a password for downloading operations.
Throughout the Sepam 2000 identification phase, a window with a
percentage of progress is displayed.
The user has the possibility of interrupting the function under way by
pressing the "Cancel" button.
If the SFT2821 software is unable to configure the communication port
indicated at the time of customization, it displays the following message:
Downloading function
If the user enters less than 4 characters, a message appears. The user
can then enter the password again.
The user can stop the transfer under way by pressing the "Cancel" button.
At the beginning of the transfer, the SFT2821 software tries to switch the
Sepam 2000 into Download mode. In the event of an error, the software
informs the user via the following message:
If the user has activated the "Cancel" button during the transfer
phase of it there has been a transfer error, the Sepam 2000 has been
partially set. The SFT2821 software displays the following message:
In this case, the user must re-program the Sepam 2000 settings in
order to ensure that they are consistent.
The user can then repeat the downloading operation ("Yes" button) in the
same way as for the identification phase, or stop the transfer function
("No" button).
The transfer time (excluding the identification phase) is about 30 seconds.
Uploading function
The uploading function does not check the contents of the settings
transmitted to the Sepam 2000, but simply that the transfer has taken
place correctly.
The identification phase described previously is the first phase of the
function.
If the identification phase has taken place correctly, the SFT2821
software performs the actual uploading. During this phase, the SFT2821
software displays uploading progress in the following window:
The user can stop the transfer under way by pressing the "Cancel" button.
When the transfer has been successfully completed, the SFT2821
software informs the user via the following message:
If the user wishes to save the settings, the SFT2821 software asks
him/her to choose the setting file name and directory via a dialogue
window:
If a saving error has occurred, the SFT2821 software proposes that the
user retry the save via the following message:
If a transfer error has occurred during the transfer, the SFT2821 software
displays the following message. The user can retry the transfer operation
("Yes" button) as of the identification phase, or stop the transfer function
("No" button).
