MANILA, Philippines — Despite allegations that he peddled “fake news,” Justice Secretary Vitaliano
Aguirre II is doing an “excellent” job and continues to enjoy President Rodrigo Duterte's full trust,
Malacañang said Monday.
 
Aguirre on Wednesday claimed that opposition lawmakers Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Paolo
Benigno Aquino IV met with the Lucman and Alonto clans in Marawi City last May 2, three weeks
before the clashes between the Maute terrorists and government forces erupted.
 
He said Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, who filed an impeachment complaint against President Duterte,
and former presidential political affairs adviser Ronald Llamas were also present during the meeting.
 
While the Justice chief did not link the supposed meeting to the Marawi siege, he said he was set to
have it investigated.
 
Aguirre later on claimed that he was misquoted and denied claiming that the opposition met with the
Lucman and Alonto clans before the siege.
 
A TV5 report aired Wednesday, however, showed the Justice secretary mentioning the Lucmans
and members of the Alonto clan attending the meeting.
 
Trillanes, Aquino, Alejano and Llamas have denied plotting the Marawi attacks and chided Aguirre
for making baseless claims.

bintang nito sa ilang mambabatas na isinangkot niya sa nangyayaring kaguluhan sa Marawi
City; ito ang isiniwalat ni Senador Grace Poe sa ABS-CBN News.

Si Poe, chairperson ng committee on public information and mass media sa Mataas na

Kapulungan, ay dati nang binatikos si Aguirre dahil sa alegasyon nito laban kina Senador
Antonio Trillanes at Senador Bam Aquino na binawi din naman kaagad ng kalihim.

“Siyempre tatanungin natin si Secretary, ‘Saan n’yo ba nakukuha ang mga balita n’yo? Magkano
ba ang budget ng DOJ? Siguro meron naman kayong mga imbestigador,” ani Poe.

Hindi rin itinago ni Poe ang kaniyang pagkadismaya kay Aguirre dahil nakaiinsulto umano na
ang isang pinagkakatiwalang ng  hustisya – ang DOJ – ay hindi man lang makuhang
magberipika ng impormasyon bago ilabas sa publiko.

“Ang gobyerno dapat ang sandalan ng impormasyon ng ating mga kababayan. Kung ang
mismong mga sangay ng gobyerno ang nagpapalabas ng mga hindi totoong balita ay sino ang
paniniwalaan natin?” dagdag pa ng senadora.

Maging si Lacson ay hindi rin kumbinsado sa ginawa ni Aguirre at pinalalahanan ang kalihim na
dapat sigurado muna ang info bago ito ilabas dahil malaki ang posibilidad na ma-misquote o
makuryente.

“Wala ka naman kadala-dala,” hirit pa ni Lacson.

Samantala, tinawag naman ni Senador Risa Hontiveros si Aguirre sa isang pahayag na “Fake

news king”.

“Wala na bang ibang magawa ang fake news king ng Padre Faura? Namamatay na ang mga
inosente at ang ating mga sundalo sa Marawi, pero ang tanging pinagkakaabalahan pa rin ng
mga gaya ni Aguirre ay mga pekeng kaso at pekeng balita,” patutsada ni Hontiveros.

Para naman kay Senador Joel Villanueva, pinag-iisipan niya umanong magpasa ng batas para
maparusahan ang gumagawa at nagpapakalat ng mga maling alegasyon at ‘fake news’.

Nickelodeon park in Palawan to push through: tourism chief

MANILA (UPDATED) - US television network Nickelodeon will push through with its plan to
build a theme park in Coron, Palawan, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said Thursday.

The development will include a floating restaurant, hotel and condominium, Teo told CNN
Philippines.

Former Environment Secretary Gina Lopez had opposed the idea of an underwater park in

Coron, saying it would damage corals in the area.
“And remember that Nickelodeon thing? They’re going to pursue with that,” Teo said.

Teo said park developers assured her that they would “preserve the environment.”

The Department of Tourism (DOT), in a later statement Thursday night, however, said that
although it is excited with the said project, it still has to be approved by appropriate agencies.

"The DOT is aware of the planned Coral World Park in Coron. From a tourism perspective, the
DOT is excited about the idea because this would attract both local and foreign tourists. But with
regards to the approval of such a concept, the DOT would properly refer the matter to the
appropriate agencies that can evaluate and decide on it," the DOT said.

Ayon sa Viacom na nagmamay-ari sa Nickelodeon, inanunsyo nilang magbubukas ang nasabing resort sa
2020, na magkakaroon pa ng mga restaurants na nakalubog six meters o 20 feet below sea level.

Gayunman, nanindigan ang Greenpeace na sisirain lamang ng nasabing proyekto ang marine ecosystem
na kilala sa buong mundo.

Ayon kay Vince Cinches ng Greenpeace Southeast Asia, nakalulungkot at nakababahala ang pagtatayo ng
ganito kalaking theme park sa ilalim ng tubig.

Hindi aniya maisusulong ang environmental protection sa pamamagitan ng pagtatayo ng mga ganitong
