Guillotine in The Network

The document discusses networking a guillotine and processing CIP data. It describes 1) reasons for networking including using CIP files to create cutting programs and transfer job data to MIS systems, 2) the CIP standard formats, 3) options for processing CIP data on Perfecta guillotines including standard, extended, and Plus converters, 4) using barcode readers to call cutting programs, 5) accessing MIS systems remotely, and 6) performing remote diagnostics on guillotines.

The guillotine in the network

1. Reasons for networking with a guillotine

2. The CIP-standard
3. CIP-data processing on a Perfecta Premium-Line
4. A useful complement of Cuttronic the barcode reader
5. MIS- Management Information System
6. Remote diagnostic in the guillotine

1. Reasons for networking with a guillotine
- CIP-files use, which are generated in the prepress (imposition program), in the guillotine
The geometrical data of the prepress is used to create a cutting programs on guillotine. This reduces the time it takes to
create the program by an operator on the machine. The CIP file can be distributed to several guillotines and less
qualified personnel is required to work on the guillotine. Furthermore, the error rate during program creation drops
especially in connection with collective sheets.

- Transfer of job data from the machine to the Management Information System in the company
The costs (cuts and time consumption) per job can be recorded and the processing status of the order entered into the
MIS. The recorded data can also be used to record the consumable material (cutting edges, grinding the knives)

Remote diagnostics on the machine

Support for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance by reading out report files •
-

It is necessary for networking to integrate the machine into the company network. This is usually done using the patch
cable on each machine.

2. The CIP-Standard
CIP 3 and CIP 4 are industry standards in the
graphics industry which define a general data
structure. Each machine manufacturer can fall
back on the general structure of the data and use
its own translator (converter) to generate the
cutting program of this guillotine.

The newer standard is the CIP 4 standard.

3. CIP-Daten processing on the Perfecta Premium-Line
Cuttronic Standard 443.51-8061.00

We supply every premium line machine with a standard converter. The standard converter translates CIP3 and simple
CIP4 files into a cutting program.

Cuttronic CIP4 443.51-8065.00
The guillotine has an extended CIP4 converter which is released with a license. Furthermore, an expanded image on the CF card which allows the
storage of large amounts of data on a connected USB flash drive*. *(It is only possible in connection with the option bar code reader)

Cuttronic Plus 443.51-8066.00
In addition to Cuttronic CIP 4, Cuttronic Plus contains a separate graphic editing program for CIP data, which is installed on
a Windows PC. On the machine and the PC there is an additional license for the program and converter. Furthermore it is a
second license for the CIP 4 converter in the machine.

Cutting program is called by a barcode on a printed sheet

By means of a barcode on the printing sheet or a separate program list

By means of a barcode on the printing sheet or a separate program list

Advantages:

- Fast access to frequently repeated, changing print jobs

- Long-term searching in the program library is omitted

- Multiple creation and storage of the same cutting program cannot happen
Optimal use of the machine memory because less programs are generated

- the scanner position is freely selectable on the machine

Management Information System
Remote access to the Management Information System in the company

The operator of the cutting machine has access an external computer from the cutting machine and make the data
input from there. "It is not necessary to install a computer next to the guillotine and avoid the use of an external data
terminal.

Remote diagnostic on a guillotine
There will be a possibility to remote diagnostics for certain machines or subsystems of the machine.

The benefits of remote service:

- Fast and detailed fault diagnosis for difficult errors

- Tracking of errors which occurs sporadically
- Reduction of on-site operations
- Efficient preparation of any necessary on-site operations
- Quick assistance by expert experts from Perfecta
- Increase of the machine run time

In spite of many advantages, remote diagnostics should remain the exception,

because remote diagnostic is very expensive,
one technician on the spot and a software developer in Perfecta
work to repair this machine
