ABSRACT
Andhra Pradesh Integrated Medical Attendance Rules, 1972 – Guidelines for
recognition of Private hospitals as referral hospitals for the purpose of treatment
to State Government employees, retired pensioners, and their
dependents, M.L.As, Ex.-MLAs and other categories of persons as per rules –
Fixation of Bed strength for Super Specialty Hospitals – Amendment – Orders -

ORDER:
In the G.O. 1st read above, Government have issued guidelines for
recognition of private hospitals as referral hospitals for the purpose of treatment
to State Government employees, retired pensioners and their dependents, family
pensioners, M.L.A.s, Ex-M.L.A.s and other categories of persons mentioned in
A.P.I.M.A. Rules, 1972.
2. In the letters 3rd and 5th read above, the Director of Medical Education has
reported that the private hospitals should have bed strength of 100 and more in
case
of Hyderabad, Secunderbad, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Guntu
r, Warangal and Tirupathi. In case of district headquarters, the bed strength
should be a minimum of 50.
3. The Director of Medical Education has also reported that in respect
of certain Specialties like Opthomology, Super Specialties etc., the treatment is
on DAY CARE basis and the surgery is completed and the patient is discharged
on the same day. He has further stated that in certain Specialized Hospitals like
Cardiology, neurology etc., the bed strength is less than the Government
specification i.e. 100 beds in cities and 50 beds in District Head Quarters. The
standards fixed in G.O 1stread above needs revision in respect of bed strength
particularly for Opthlomology and Super Specialties, as the treatment is on
DAY CARE (well equipped) and Super Specialty hospitals like Cardiology,
Urology.
4. The Director of Medical Education has suggested that the number of beds
for single super specialty hospitals may be fixed at 50 (fifty) and 20 (twenty)
beds for simple Ophthalmoloy Hospitals.
5. Government after careful examination of the matter have decided to
accept the above suggestion of the Director of Medical
Education, Hyderabad. Accordingly, Government issue the following
Amendment to G.O.Ms.No.162, H.M & F.W.(K1) department, dated:23-5-
2005;-
AMENDMENTS
After sub para (2) of para 5 of G.O.Ms.No.162, H.M&F.W.(K1)
department, dated: 23-5-2005, the following sub-para shall be added, namely:-
“2-A) In respect of single Super Specialty Hospitals like
Cardiology, urology, Kidney, Cancer, Neurology,
Orthopedic etc., the bed strength should not be less than
fifty (50).
2-B). In respect of simple Ophthalmology Hospitals, the bed
strength should not be lees than twenty (20)”.
