History of LuSHS

Lugait Senior High School opened in 2016 in the Philippines to provide secondary education under the K-12 reform. It began operating out of the old gym of Lugait Junior High School with few teachers and facilities. Due to heavy rains and lack of proper buildings, classes were difficult. The school superintendent deployed more teachers and the local government constructed a new building, allowing classes to operate more smoothly. Despite challenges, Lugait Senior High School graduated its first batch of students in 2018 with support from the community and local leaders.

Lugait Senior High School: From Humble beginnings, Comes Great Things”

A few years ago, no less than former president Benigno C. Aquino took cognizance of the
importance and practicality of the implementation of the K to 12 programs. Consequently, the Department
of Education, Philippines, has integrated and adopted the K to 12 education reform agenda which
responded to the emerging demands that could develop an individual with the 21st century skills.
With the introduction of K to 12, Lugait Senior high School was born. ‘From humble beginnings,
come great things’. It could be said that this quote is one of the most inspiring that can be used when
describing our favorite stories, particularly those depicting earnest perseverance, innovative thinking, and
how we turned hopes and dreams into shining realities. Lugait Senior High School opened its door in June
2016. We faced the task of creating a school that will produce graduates that will be developed holistically.
We believe that every child deserves the very best educational opportunities to blossom and shine, and so
we seek to ensure that pupils leave our school with the skills required to successfully take their place within
the local community and beyond. Consequently, we see academic success for our pupils as of equal
importance to their social and emotional growth. With this in mind, we have made some fundamental changes to
the structural framework of our school over the past few months. The journey of Lugait Senior HS comes in
several twist and turn before it turns out the way as it is today.
Lugait Senior High School started without its own buildings and all other teaching facilities.
Everything was just either provision by teachers or borrowed from Lugait Senior High School with Dr.
Abdon A. Bacayana as the school principal. The early year of Lugait Senior High School was not that easy
according to Maam Janit Llanita. She states “During the early years of the school, we do not have our own
building. So, the Department of Education instructed that we will use the old gym of Lugait. While having
our classes, there was also an ongoing construction of building with 9 classroom intended for senior high
students. However, with the population of the students, constructed classrooms at that said gym were really
not conducive for learning. Although the gym was subject for demolition, but we don’t have any choice but
to accept the risk since there was no available building during those times.

Moreover, Sir El M. Dela Cruz added “Difficulties were manifested when classes started on the
first day. Many students were enrolled but there are only 5 teachers available of which 2 teachers were
officially hired and 5 are deployed from Lugait JHS. Each section consists of not more than 60 congested
students and the 2 ceiling fans are not enough to ease the warmth we felt inside the old gym. Rainy season
comes and I feel deeply frustrated when I found out that all my important documents and structures inside
my classroom were soaking wet and destroyed by the heavy rain and the gym were flooded with water.

As I arrived in Lugait Senior High School, the building was on going constructed, so we discussed
inside at the gym. The gym was divided into rooms with no ceilings at all. The walls were made of plywood.
The echoes of our voice can be heard by other voice. It was so hot and chairs were not enough for the
students. Lack of facilities and textbooks were one of the problems at that time. So we teachers strived
hard to give our best for our students to learn from us. Actually, I had no plan to submit the requirements
but for the sake of my family I pushed myself to apply as a permanent SHS teacher. By God’s grace, I
passed the qualifications and requirements and eventually become a senior high school teacher. I really
thank God for the wonderful blessings HE bestowed upon me. In my mind and in my heart, May be GOD

wanted me to touch the lives of my students for them

to become successful.

Our situation caught the attention of our

School Superintendent Dr. Cherry Mae Limbaco.
She visited the school during the first week of its
opening. When she roamed around, she noticed that
there were many students enrolled but only few
teachers. Ma’am Arnita Ferrnandez vividly remembered the event “We were very busy that day because we
accommodated our late enrollees. We were surprise when ma’am Limbaco arrived. She observed that that
there were many students but only few teachers so she called the attention of Sir Edward Jarales and
Maam Marifi Cagubcob. Dr. Limbaco requested Sir Jarales if she could borrow teachers from Lugait
National High School. I’m one of the fortunate teacher who was called to be deployed in Lugait Senior
High School. Dr. Limbaco asked me if I have earned units of masteral. When I confirmed it to her that I’m
almost done with my master’s degree she abruptly told me that I will be temporarily transferred to LSHS. I
was so happy during that time. This is my honor to be a part of Senior High School because I learned many
things.

During typhoon Pablo, raging winds, falling branches and intruding rain disturb classes. It
continued for several days. Due to high risk, Hon. Mayor Zosimo A. Perez and other Deped personnels
decided to hold our classes at Lugait Junior High School. Both teachers and students did encounter a lot of
difficulties like time adjustment because classes usually end late at night. Safety of our students was one of
our challenges and so we need to coordinate with the Lugait Government since our classes. CVO were
requested to report every night to check and guide the students as they go to their respective home.
Teachers usually went home late at night to finish school requirements. Even if there is no electricity, but it
never hinders them to finish their task on time. Sometimes they need to bring their children with them just
to see to it that their children were still taken care of while they were finishing their tasks.

It was December 1, 2016 when the good news arrived, that we will be occupying the newly
constructed building. It is located along Rizal St. Poblacion, Lugait, Misamis Oriental. It offers courses
namely HUMSS, ABM, COOKERY and SMAW. Gradually, supplies, tools, equipments and other
instructional materials were being provided through the downloaded MOOE funds. These made the
stakeholders even more eager to assist us in our endeavors to attain quality education for our learners.

Recently, we are more grateful for abundant blessings the school received from the local government
through the initiative of the Hon. Mayor by downloading their funds to the office Division of Misamis

Oriental for easy spending. This is one of the

best practices of the Lugait Municipality to set
aside funds for “Brigada Eskwela” and was
recognized by the Schools Division
Superintendent, Sir Randolph Tortola.

LSHS received funds from LGU headed by Hon.

Mayor Zosimo A. Perez.
First batch of Senior High School graduates last school year 2017- 2018.

Happy together as we celebrate the Independence Day Last June 12, 2018.

Lugait senior High School has now been in operation for more than a year. With the love and
support of Hon. Mayor Zosimo A. Perez Jr., Our beloved Principal Luzviminda Z. Labiz and Lugait
communities, Lugait Senior High School will continue with the mission it was created for: educating the
mind, heart, body, and soul of tomorrow's leaders as heads and servants of their communities.
