Q1:A single -phase 800 V/100 V, 50 Hz transformer has a maximum core flux
density of 1.294 T and an effective cross-sectional area of 60 cm2 . Calculate the
number of turns on the primary and secondary windings.
Ans: N1=464 turns, N2=58 turns

Q2: A single phase transformer has 480 turns on the primary winding and 90 turns
on the secondary winding. The maximum value of the magnetic flux density
is 1.1 T when 2200 volts, 50Hz is applied to the transformer primary
winding. Calculate: (1)The maximum flux in the core. (2)The cross sectional area
of the core. (3) The secondary induced e m f.
Ans: (1) 0.0206 Wb. (2) 0.0187 m2 (3) 412.5 V

Q3: A 3.3 kV/110 V, 50 Hz, single -phase transformer is to have an


approximate e.m.f. per turn of 22 V and operate with a maximum flux of 1.25 T.
Calculate (a) the number of primary and secondary
turns, and (b) the cross -sectional area of the core
Ans: (a) N1=150 , N2=5.(b) 0.07928
Q4: A 60 kVA, 1600 V/100 V, 50 Hz, single-phase transformer has 50
secondary windings. Calculate (a) the primary and secondary current, (b) the
number of primary turns and (c) the maximum value of the flux.

Ans: (a) I1= 37.5A, I2= 600A (b). N1=800 (c) 9.0mWb
Q5: A single-phase, 50 Hz transformer has 40 primary turns and 520
secondary turns. The cross - sectional area of the core is 270 cm2 . When
the primary winding is connected to a 300 volt supply, determine (a) the maximum
value of flux density in the core, and (b) the voltage induced in the secondary
winding

Ans: (a) 1.25 T, (b) V2= 3900 V


Q6: A single – phase transformer has 400 primary and 1000 secondary turns
windings. The net cross-sectional area of the core is 60 cm2 . If the primary
winding be connected to a 50-Hz supply at 520V, Calculate (i) the voltage induced
in the secondary windings. (ii) the peak value of flux density in the core.

Ans: E2= 1300 V, 0.976 T

Q7: An ideal transformer has a turns ratio of 12:1 and is supplied at 192 V.
Calculate the secondary voltage.

Ans: V2= 16 V

Q8: A 25 kVA ideal transformer has 500 turns on the primary and 50 turns on the
secondary winding. The primary is connected to 3000V, 50Hz supply. Find
the full-load primary and secondary currents, the secondary e.m.f. and the
maximum flux in the core.

Ans: (a) I1= 8.33 A, I2= 83.3 A (b). E1=300 (c) 27mWb
