Uva Summer Programmes - Basic Student Housing - de Key
Uva Summer Programmes - Basic Student Housing - de Key
Location
The De Key housing buildings are located in Amsterdam’s historical centre, close to convenient
amenities and approximately 15 – 20 minutes from the University of Amsterdam’s Roeterseiland campus
by public transport or bike. These buildings are exclusively reserved for international students studying
at the UvA, making it a fun, safe, and secure place to stay.
Building
Students in the same programme are placed in the same
building or as close to each other as possible.
Each building is equipped with:
Rooms
There are two types of rooms available:
• Single bedrooms with a shared kitchen and
bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom are
shared between 2 – 3 people.
• Shared rooms are shared with one student of
the same gender. Shared rooms will share a
kitchen and bathroom between 2 – 3 people.
Each student has their own bed, chair, and desk. The
housing company will provide a bedding/linen packet
(sheets, 1 duvet, 1 pillow). Towels are not included in
the linen packet. Students are advised to bring/buy
their own cooking supplies (plates, cutlery, a pan).
Most of the buildings have wifi, but for the fastest connection, bring an Ethernet cable.
How to apply
Housing is first come, first serve. There are a limited number of rooms available, so make sure to sign up
for housing and pay the fee as soon as possible.
1. When filling in the online application for the academic programme, answer YES to the question:
“Do you wish to apply for housing?”
2. Once accepted into the programme, reconfirm via email that you would like to book
accommodation through the University’s housing partner.
3. Make sure to pay the housing fee to the Summer Programmes Office before the deadline
specified on the programme website. If your payment is not received before the payment
deadline, the Summer Programmes Office will not reserve housing on your behalf.
4. Approximately 3 weeks before the start of the programme, you will receive an email from the De
Key housing company. In this email you will receive a link to the De Key website where you can
officially “book” your room.
5. It is mandatory, by Dutch law, that you complete this step to officially “book” the room. With
this booking, you will find details on the location of your room, and you will also be able to view
photos of your room. At the end of the booking, if you have completed all the necessary steps,
you will have an electronic copy of your contract, valid for the duration of the programme.
You must complete this booking process, otherwise the housing company cannot provide you
access to the housing.
Arrival to Amsterdam
Students can expect to check-in to their accommodation from 14:00 – 19:00 on arrival day.
Detailed information about the arrival day and the key handover will be provided 3 weeks prior to the
start of the programme.
