04 Temperature Resistance Effects Part 2 PDF

The document provides 6 sample problems related to calculating resistance values of various materials like aluminum wires, copper wires, and coils at different temperatures. It seeks to determine resistance values when temperatures increase or decrease from a given value, as well as calculating temperature coefficients of resistance using resistance measurements at two different temperatures. The problems involve common materials used in electrical applications and real world scenarios of replacing wires with different materials while keeping resistance the same.

resistance at 0°C and temperature coefficient at 35°C.

2. It is found that a resistance of a coil of wire increases from 50Ω at 25°C to
60Ω at 65°C. Compute the temperature coefficient at 10°C.

3. A filament bulb takes a current of 5A at 200V when working at normal condition

and at a temperature of 120°C. Calculate its current when working at a temperature
of 70°C.
4. A copper wire has a length of 1500ft and a diameter of 0.056in. Find its
resistance when the temperature increases to 40°C.
resistance when the temperature increases to 40°C.

5. Determine the resistance of a bus bar made of aluminum at 50 ºC if the length

is 15 meters long and cross section is 9 cm2.
6. A copper transmission line is to be replaced by one of aluminum having the same
total resistance. If the cross sectional area of the copper wire is 0.005 m2, what
would be the cross sectional area of the new aluminum wire?
