Unit 13 Statement of Aims - Blank Template With Prompts 2022-23
STATEMENT OF AIMS
FMP unit is the summative unit in the final year of the two-year qualification. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning through the
completion of a substantial creative media production and technology project.
The unit requires students to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding
developed over the entire course, to complete a creative media production project. It
will provide students with a measure of self-directed learning, and an opportunity to
further clarify their longer-term goals through their choice of an activity to explore in
greater depth

Section 1: Rationale (minimum of 100 words)
This section provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarize
your progress and achievements through the entire course and the knowledge,
skills and understanding you have acquired. What do you know now, and what it
means to you, compare with what you knew and could do before you started the
course and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your project
proposal.
I have learnt a lot this year. I have learnt how to properly use a camera and
learning all of its features it has such as white balance shutter speeds for example.
I have also developed an understanding of proper time management skills and not
to over complicate my work into not being able to finish it at the right time. I knew
at lot less about cameras at the start of year 2 and I have learnt a significant
amount of video/animation and photography rules to keep remembering, at all
times. All my projects I have done have either been rushed to finish or incomplete.
As I hope to do in this fmp is to create something fair less complex so I can finish
the project on time to make it to its best of its ability to do something simple.
In my project I will showcase my photography skills I was taught during the work
experience week. It will be solely focused on nature and wildlife. I will use a
camera to take close up photos of various plants and of animals. I will be
borrowing equipment from the college such as a camera with a close up lens and
a normal lens. How I will present this will be like a book with pictures inside of it
arranged in a certain order or certain sections to section out which photos I want
with which (example closeup flowers next to closeup water textures for example
I will try to allocate the time to seek out the location I will be taking photos in
beforehand to make sure I am well aware of the area and its
advantages/disadvantages. And during the production week I will plan to take as
many pictures of the set environment I had set beforehand and I will take multiple
pictures zoomed in at certain points/object to get the best photo I can get. This will
most likely take a whole morning/afternoon to do as it may take me a while to get
all the pictures I need for the book itself. Next during post production time I will rate
all my pictures out of 5 stars using adovbe light room. After that I will gather the
best images and edit those accordingly. And finally I will start to create a book with
the pictures in them arranged in a certain way.
Section 3: Evaluation – How you plan to record your progress (minimum of 100
words)
This section provides an opportunity to explain how you will reflect on, and
evaluate, your work as both an on-going activity and at the conclusion of the
project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision making and
how you will document changes to your ideas as work progresses. The evaluation
should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather
than a description of actions completed. Remember that your evaluation should be
an on-going process and not just left to the completion of the project.
I plan on using a daily blog of sorts to record my days of what I will be doing during
each of those days. Such as: editing, taking photos, doing research on the area I
will be working in, for example it will set a example for what I did each day. Just
incase my work ends up not being the greatest I would’ve wanted it would back me
up to show what I did each day and how much preparation I did in advance I had
done on each day. It will give me more chance at a higher mark in the end

I will use this website as a base to explore images that I might take reference from
to use in my actual fmp. This may include taking different angles in perspective
and using a longer lens.
https://expertphotography.com/photography-books/
Taking the list into consideration I will use this source to make my book/ make a
plan of my book that will include the photos that I have taken from in them. With
appropriate titles and text underneath them to explain further what my idea was
and how I was able to do so.
The fmp brief the lecturers show’ed to us was very helpful. The example they used
was one of my inspirations for my book idea I may use as they used an assortment
of pictures arranged in a certain way in a book style format.

My Age range for my target audience will be most towards people in their early

nature and photography who love to know what objects they can zoom in on to get
a whole different perspective of nature. It can also be for anyone who enjoys
looking at nature life and how it has evolved overtime from each different season
and how camera angles change our perspective on nature.
Creative Mindsets
Identify how you will be using or including the six Creative Mindsets for your FMP
(where applicable). Check the outline for each CM on the PowerPoint presentation
delivered during the FMP pitch.
Ownership
I will be taking responsibility of not taking pictures of the general public and it will
be my responsibility to delete those images asap.
Critical Thinking
Changing picture camera angles to get the best angle possible for the current area I
may be in. Also trying out different ideas I may have not thought of before
Problem Solving
Try and see if a certain spot is unavailable at that time I will need to think quickly of
a different area I may need to start taking photos in
Creativity
Trying different camera angles that I hadn’t thought of about before. And try to take
backup photos in case the ones I use turn out to be awful in adobe
Risk Taking
Try and go out of my comfort zone and go to different areas where I may have
marked before.
Collaboration
Ill try and support other peoples projects if they need me to help out in anyway
You will be expected to engage with and reflect on the use of these Creative
Mindsets throughout your FMP from start to finish
How to successfully complete a final major project
1. Do something you enjoy – look back on projects this year and think about
what skills you’ve learnt and which you have really enjoyed. What job would
you like to do in the future? How can you apply it to your project? Pick a
theme or themes which you can connect with.
LOVE YOUR PROJECT
2. Do lots and lots of research – primary and secondary are both essential.
Use a wide range of methods and resources, such as questionnaires,
surveys, interviews (Primary), and researching the work of professional
practitioners and techniques (Secondary).
3. Manage your time – 10 weeks is not long. Just think how fast this year has
gone so far. Plan ahead and don’t fall behind. MAKE USE OF
INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME.
4. You must document everything what happens as you go along. Your entire
journey from start to finish should be fully recorded. Describe and analyse as
you go along. Every aspect of your project should be fully considered. Your
Planning and Schedule will be vital to the success of your FMP
6. Critically analyse and evaluate – this will refer to the research you
undertake, the pre-production, production and post-production. Don’t just
describe but analyse, interpret, research and evaluate.
