- The document reports the results of a Quantiferon test performed on a 75-year-old male patient referred by Dr. Mayank Dubey. - The test was for tuberculosis and showed a negative result, indicating tuberculosis infection was unlikely. - However, the test can have false negative results if the sample was taken too early or from an immunocompromised patient, so a repeat test may be needed if tuberculosis is still suspected.

presence of heterophile antibodies
COMMENT:
A Quantiferon test is a test for latent Tuberculosis infection and helps in diagnosing M.tuberculosis complex infection including MOTT like
M.kanasasii, M.szulgai and M.marinum.
An indeterminate result may occur with insufficient lymphocytes or inability of the patients lymphocytes to generate
IFN-y response.
This assay cannot differentiate between Latent infection and Active TB.
Magnitude of measured Gamma Interferon cannot be correlated with stage or degree of infection, level of immune responsiveness or
likelihood of progression to active disease.
FALSE NEGATIVE RESULTS CAN BE THERE :
1. False negative results maybe obtained if sample is taken prior to development of immune response. CDC recommends repeat
test aftr 8 - 10 weeks in case of high suspicion of tuberculosis.
2. Immunocompromised patients can also show false negative results.
