WLL-LS3-ELEM-April 11-13,2022-How Heavy Is Totoy

This document is a weekly learning log from an Alternative Learning System community learning center in the Philippines. It outlines the objectives, content, learning resources, procedures, and evaluation for a lesson on measuring weight using both the metric and English measurement systems. Key points covered include converting between grams/kilograms and ounces/pounds, and learning how to measure the weight of objects and people. The facilitator assessed student learning through exercises converting units of measurement.

We can use pounds and ounces to measure the weights of babies and even
adults. You see, there are 16 ounces (oz) in one pound (lb). When I said that
Totoy weighs 17 1⁄2 pounds, it means that he weighs 17 pounds and 8 ounces.
C. Analysis
“Let’s Read” on pages 33 and answer “Let’s Review”on page 34.
Let's Learn and discuss the units of weight measurement in the English system
You have learned that two systems can be used for measuring weight, namely,
the metric and English systems. You studied the metric system in Lesson 1. In
this lesson, you will learn about the English system for measuring weight.on
page 34-36
D. Discussing new
concepts and practicing The important units used for measuring weight in the English system are the
new skills (Sub-act. 1) ounce, pound and ton. Study carefully how much of one unit is equivalent to
another:

16 ounces (oz) = 1 pound (lb)

2,000 pounds (lbs) = 1 ton

Let’s Learn how to Converting smaller units of weight to bigger units and to
Converting bigger units of weight to smaller units
E. Discussing new
concepts and practicing Now, you may also have to do some conversion of units in the English system.
new skills (Sub-act. 2) As with the metric system, you can convert smaller units to bigger units, and
bigger units to smaller units.on page 38-44.

In the English system, the most commonly used units for measuring weight
are the ounce, pound and ton:
 16 ounces (oz) = 1 pound (lb)
 2,000 pounds (lbs) = 1 ton
♦ To convert one unit of weight to another, you can use the unit factor method
that you learned in Lesson 1.
♦ There are quicker ways to do the following conversions from a smaller unit
to a bigger unit:
F. Abstraction (Making • ounces to pounds

lesson) • pounds to tons
To convert pounds to tons, divide the number of pounds by 2,000.

♦ There are quicker ways to do the following conversions from a bigger unit to
a smaller unit:
• pounds to ounces
To convert pounds to ounces, multiply the number of pounds by 16.
• tons to pounds
To convert tons to pounds, multiply the number of tons by 2,000.
G. Application Now, using what you have learned in converting small units to bigger units in
