I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, all the pupils should:

A. identify singular nouns from plural nouns


B. value the importance of using appropriate number of nouns in sentences
C. write the plural form of nouns by adding s, es or changing the spelling of
some nouns to mean more than one

D. Presentation of the Lesson


Singular nouns always refer to one
person or one thing. Singular nouns can
refer to general things or more specific
people, places, and things with names or
titles.
A singular noun refers to a single object,
Sure teacher.
Plural nouns are nouns that refer to more
than one person, place, or thing. In
general, plural nouns are made by adding
-s or -es to the ends of singular nouns.

In short, this means that a singular noun


refers to only one person or thing and a
plural noun refers to more than one
person or thing.

Rule 1
Add S to make most nouns plural
Example:
Bottle — Bottles
Table — Tables

Rule 2
Add ES to nouns ending in S, Z, CH, X,
O, SS and SH .
Example:
Box— Boxes
Fox — Foxes

Rule 3
When a noun ends with consonant y
change y to i and add es.
Example:
Puppy — Puppies
Baby — Babies

Can you give example student 4?

Rule 4
When a noun ends in f or fe, change f to v
and add es.
Example:
Knife — Knives
Lady —Ladies

Can you give example student 5?

Rule 5
Some singular nouns form their plural by Student 1: monkey- monkeys
changing their spelling.
Example:
Man — Men
Woman — Women

Always remember this rule this will help Student 2: bush- bushes

E. Generalization

If we say singular nouns, we are talking


about nouns that refer to only one person,
animal, place, thing, or idea. Plural nouns
on the other hand, are nouns referring to
more than one person, place, thing, or
idea.

Why it is important to study singular and

The rules for singular and plural nouns


are add S to make most nouns plural.

Add ES to nouns ending in S, Z, CH, X,

We form the plural of most nouns ending


in f or fe by changing f to v and adding es.
And lastly, for about some singular nouns
form their plural by changing their
spelling.
