The Speckled Band

Helen Stoner visited Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson seeking help. She feared she would meet the same fate as her sister Julia, who died under mysterious circumstances in their stepfather's home. Holmes agreed to investigate Julia's room where he discovered a vent connecting to their stepfather's room and evidence the bed had been moved. That night while keeping watch, Holmes saved Helen by startling a poisonous snake that had been sent through the vent by their stepfather to kill her as well.
