Dear Parents and Guardians,

In our effort to promote transparency across our District, I want to inform you of a proposal
to better-enhance our District. After years of financial challenges for our District, including
declining enrollment and increased costs, Harlandale ISD has reached a point where we
can no longer sustain all of our schools and must make some difficult decisions going
forward.

On Thursday, March 2, we held a Town Hall Meeting at Harlandale Middle school to present
our plans to enhance the long-term future of our District by consolidating and resourcing a
few of our campuses. A final decision has not been made. Our Harlandale School Board
will be voting on this proposal in March and will ultimately make the decision.

The full proposal can be found on our website at harlandale.net under “Latest News.” We
asked our community for their input by way of a QR code and feedback survey during and
after the meeting. Public Comments will be allowed at the March 8, 2023 Board Workshop,
which will be held at STEM Early College High School, as well as the Regular School Board
meeting on March 20, 2023 at Collier Elementary.

We understand that this news may be difficult, especially for those whose children attend
one of the affected schools. Please know that our top priority is the well-being and education
of our students, and we are committed to supporting them during this time of uncertainty.

We want to assure you that we have carefully considered all options and have made this
proposal with the best interests of our students, families and staff in mind. If the proposal is
approved, we will work closely with families and staff to ensure that students are able to
transfer to another school within our district and receive the resources and support they
need to succeed.

We will provide updates as new information becomes available. We appreciate your


understanding and patience as we work through this process. Thank you for your continued
support of our District and our students.

Queridos padres y guardianes,

En nuestro esfuerzo por promover la transparencia en todo nuestro Distrito, quiero informarles sobre
una propuesta para mejorar nuestro Distrito. Después de años de desafíos financieros para nuestro
Distrito, incluida la disminución de la inscripción y el aumento de los costos, Harlandale ISD ha
llegado a un punto en el que ya no podemos mantener todas nuestras escuelas y debemos tomar
algunas decisiones difíciles en el futuro.
