Daplin Final Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in English 10

The document provides a semi-detailed English lesson plan for 10th grade students on the difference between linear and non-linear texts. The lesson plan aims to teach students to distinguish between linear and non-linear texts and construct their own examples of each. Students will participate in activities that involve identifying examples of linear and non-linear texts, transcoding information between the two formats, and evaluating statements about their differences. The lesson concludes by assigning students to watch a video demonstrating how to transcode texts and answer questions about the process.

Linear and Non- Linear Text

What is Linear Text?

Linear text refers to traditional text that needs to be read from beginning to the end.
Here, the reader makes sense of the text according to the grammatical and
syntactic arrangement of the words.
Example: Novels, poems, short stories, textbooks, letters, newspaper articles,
educational texts, and all those texts that we have to read from the beginning to
the end.
What is Nonlinear Text?
Nonlinear text is the opposite of linear text. As its name suggests, it is nonlinear
and non-sequential. In other words, the readers do not have to go through the text
in a sequential manner in order to make sense of the text. This type of text has
many reading paths since it’s the readers who decide the sequence of reading, not
the author of the text. It is also important to note that digital texts or electronic texts
are also nonlinear texts.
Example: Flow charts, knowledge maps, digital texts with hyperlinks, and
encyclopedias.

What is the Difference Between Linear and Nonlinear Text?

Linear text refers to traditional text that needs to be read from beginning to the end
while nonlinear text refers to text that does not need to be read from beginning to
the end. As their names imply, linear texts are linear and sequential while non-
linear and non-sequential. Thus, there is only one reading path in linear texts,
which is determined by the author. However, nonlinear texts can have multiple
reading paths depending on the readers.

D. Application
Students will be divided into two groups. First group will transcode information
from linear to non- linear text while the second group will transcode the non- linear to
linear text. The task shall finish in 3 minutes.

a) Transcode linear to non- linear text.

Nowadays, students spend too much time on online games. Inappropriate use of
online games leads to problems such as distraction and addiction. Internet games
addiction is characterized by cognitive and emotional deficits. Online addiction
involves playing games uncontrollably for many hours. Students use online games to
relieve them of their stresses but the excessive use of online games may lead to
worsened learning ability, concentration problems, poor academic performance and
decreased interactions with other people.

b) Transcode non- linear to linear text.

IV. Evaluate
In a 1/4 sheet of paper, write “Yes!” if the statement is true while “google it!” if
the statement is false. It shall be done in a minute.
1. Non-linear text is the opposite of linear text. As its name suggests, it is nonlinear
and sequential. In other words, the readers do not have to go through the text
in a sequential manner in order to make sense of the text. google it!
2. Digital texts or electronic texts are linear texts. google it!
3. All those texts that we have to read from the beginning to the end are known
as nonsequential texts. google it!
4. Educational texts such as blogs are linear texts. google it!
5. The reading path of linear non-linear text depends on the author. google it!
6. Non- linear texts include flow charts, graphs, digital texts with hyperlinks, and
