Data Guard

This document discusses two operations in Oracle Data Guard: DR tests and failovers. DR tests involve opening the standby database to read-write mode to test how long it takes to failover and there are two types of standbys - activate and snapshot. A failover is needed when the primary database is completely lost or destroyed due to disaster, making the standby database the new primary.

From here we use two operations in dataguard...

1.DR TEST
2.FAILOVER
DR TEST:
IF the primary database is corrupted (or)related data center is damaged we have to
open stand by
database into Read-Write Mode(primary).

To do this how much time it takes that the process is known as DR TEST.

We have to do DR TEST every quaterly to estimate the time.

There are two types of standby in the DR TEST:

1.ACTIVATE STAND BY
2.SNAPSHOT STAND BY

FAILOVER:

If any disaster is occured in the primary database location in which the data is
completely destroyed or
lost then we need to make stand by database into the primary database.

ACTIVATE: initiates an OPEN RESETLOGS operation on the standby database to create

the redo logs.
snapshot
Standby database is a fully updateable standby database created by converting a
physical standby database into a snapshot standby database.
