Lab 14 - Paperclip Pendulum

The document describes an experiment to test the hypothesis that the period (T) of a paperclip pendulum is directly proportional to the number (n) of paperclips linked together. The experiment aims to investigate the period of a pendulum made of different numbers of linked paperclips. The method section is blank, suggesting the student needs to design their own method to collect observations on the period of pendulums with varying numbers of paperclips and then analyze the data to test if T is directly proportional to n.

LAB 14: PAPERCLIP PENDULUM

Problem Statement: Paperclips may be linked in a chain and swung as a single unit, as shown in the
diagram. The period ‘T’ depends on ‘n’, the number of clips linked together. A student suggests that
T=Kn, where K is a constant. Design an experiment to test this theory.

Hypothesis:

AIM: To investigate the period of a pendulum

APPARATUS & MATERIALS: paperclips, cork retort stand, stopwatch, needle
