“Mozart.

Mozart, one of the world’s greatest composers, died over 200 years ago. His brilliant music,
though, lives on and is admired by music lovers throughout the world.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1756. He died at the age of 35,
but in his short life he composed over 600 works in nearly every musical form. They include 22 operas,
41 symphonies, many concerts and sonatas as well as chamber music and all kinds of church music.

Mozart was a child prodigy who showed his musical talent at an incredibly early age. At
four, he was able to play the harpsichord, and at five, he started to write music. His father was a composer
and a musician who encouraged his gifted son. Wolfgang never went to school because his father taught
him at home.

His elder sister was also talented, and their father took them on tours of Europe. When
Wolfgang was six, the children played for the royal family in Vienna. For the next three years they
performed at other royal courts. Wolfgang was called “the wonder child”. In England he met the
composer Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music greatly influenced the eight-year-old child.

When he was twelve, he composed his first operas and symphonies. At thirteen, he started
working for the Archbishop of Salzburg, writing church music. He spent much of the next three years in
Italy, where his first opera was produced.

As he got older and was no longer a child prodigy, people took less notice of him. He
married at 26 and settled in Vienna. There he met Joseph Haydn, a composer who became his friend and
with whom he worked.

He gave music lessons and went on concert tours but could not make enough money to
support his family. His health failed early, and one of the greatest musical geniuses of all times died in
poverty.
“The new puppy.”

Andrew has got a new puppy. He has called him Baby. Andrew and Baby are going to be
friends and have lots of fun together.

Baby is small and he is not very happy now. He has just left five brothers and sisters and his
mother-dog. So Andrew is very kind to him. He strokes Baby and talks to him.

Tomorrow Andrew will take Baby for a walk. They will have fun in the park. They will run
and play together. After that Andrew will give Baby a delicious dinner and put him in the warm basket.

Robots

A robot is a machine. But it is not just any machine. It is a special kind of machine. It is a
machine that moves. It follows instructions. The instructions come from a computer. Because it is a
machine, it does not make mistakes. And it does not get tired. And it never complains.
Robots are all around us. Some robots are used to make things. For example, robots can help
make cars. Some robots are used to explore dangerous places. For example, robots can help explore
volcanoes. Some robots are used to clean things. These robots can help vacuum your house. Some robots
can even recognize words. They can be used to help answer telephone calls.
Some robots look like humans. But most robots do not. Most robots just look like machines.
Long ago, people imagined robots. Over 2,000 years ago, a famous poet imagined robots.
The poet’s name was Homer. His robots were made of gold. They cleaned things and they made things.
But they were not real. They were imaginary. Nobody was able to make a real robot. The first real robot
was made in 1961. It was called Unimate. It was used to help make cars. It looked like a giant arm.
In the future, we will have even more robots. They will do things that we can’t do. Or they
will do things that we don’t want to do. Or they will do things that are too dangerous for us. Robots will
help us fight fires. They will help us fight wars. They will help us fight sickness. They will help us
discover things.
They will help make life better.
Materials

A material is what something is made of. There are 5 basic materials. Most things are made
with these materials. Some things are made of metal. Some things are made of glass. Some things are
made of wood. Some things are made of cloth. And some things are made of plastic. There are some other
materials. But they are not used as much as these 5 materials.
Let’s talk about metal first. Metal is very heavy. And it is very hard and strong. It usually
feels cool if you touch it. We use metal to make lots of things. We use it for forks and knives. We use it
for keys. We use it for cars. We use it for these things because it is very strong.
Next, let’s talk about glass. Glass is very smooth. It feels cool to touch. It is not as heavy as
metal. It is hard. But it is not strong. It breaks very easily! Then why do we use it? We use it because it is
clear! You can see through glass! That’s why we use it for windows. That’s also why we use it for
glasses.
Now, let’s talk about wood. Wood is lighter than metal and glass. It is not as strong as metal.
But it is much stronger than glass. We use wood to make lots of things. Things made from wood are
usually light and hard and strong. Chairs and tables are made from wood. Pencils are made from wood.
Now let’s talk about cloth. Cloth is very light. It is much lighter than wood. And it is very soft. We use
cloth to make lots of things. For example, it is used to make clothing. And it is used to make blankets.
Last, let’s talk about plastic. Plastic is also very light. But it is different from cloth.
Sometimes it is soft. And sometimes it is hard. Plastic can be used to make thin plastic bags. These are
light, soft, and strong. But plastic can also be used to make bicycle helmets. These are light, hard, and
strong. A helmet and a bag seem different. But they are both made from plastic.

The Jackal and the Sun Child

A jackal is a wild dog with a big black back. It resides in the desert. But how did the jackal
get his black back? This was how it happened.
One day, the jackal saw a girl. She was sitting upon a rock. She was not a normal child. She
was a rare and beautiful sun child. She was bright and warm like the sun. The child saw the jackal and
smiled.
She said, “Jackal, I have been relaxing on this rock for too long. I must get home soon. But,
I am slow and you are fast. You will likely get me home more quickly.” Then she requested, “Will you
carry me home? If you do, I’ll give you a gift. This necklace belongs to me, but I will give it to you.”
The wild jackal agreed. So the sun child sat on the dog’s back. They started to walk. But soon, the jackal
felt ill. The sun child was very hot on his back. The heat was hurting his back very badly. “I made a
terrible error in judgment.” he thought. He shouldn’t have agreed to carry her. So he asked her to get off.
But she did not. The jackal’s back continued to get hotter and hotter. He had to get away from the sun
child. So he made a plan. First, he ran as fast as he could. He hoped the sun child would fall off. But she
did not. So when the sun child was looking at the sky, not aware of the jackal’s next plan, he jumped into
a field of flowers. As a result, the child rolled off his back. The jackal ran away.
But the sun child left a mark on the jackal’s back, a visible black mark. Ever since his
experience with the sun child, the jackal has had a black back.

The Pet Store

George is at the pet store, looking at what kind of pet he might want to get for his birthday.
George asked if he could have a horse, but his parents said no because horses are too big.
First, he sees dogs and cats. Baby dogs are called puppies. Baby cats are called kittens.
George likes them because they are easy to take care of and can play a lot, but they will get bigger.
George wants a small pet.
Then George sees animals that have to live in a cage. He sees rabbits, guinea pigs, and mice.
Mice are what you call more than one mouse. He likes these animals because they are small. Birds live in
cages too. George sees a parrot and a canary. He likes them all, but he doesn’t want to clean the cage.
George sees the animals in tanks. The tanks full of water have fish and turtles in them. He thinks about a
goldfish but decides he likes the turtles more. There are also tanks with rocks and sand that have snakes,
spiders, and scorpions, but George is afraid of them. George likes the turtles best, but they won’t fit in the
little fishbowls. Turtles need bigger tanks, so they can swim sometimes and hide sometimes.
George decides he wants to get a turtle for his birthday. He buys a book on how to take care
of a turtle and a list of what types of turtles the store has.

The Environment

In our modern world, there are many factors that place the wellbeing of the planet in
jeopardy. While some people have the opinion that environmental problems are just a natural occurrence,
others believe that human beings have a huge impact on the environment. Regardless of your viewpoint,
take into consideration the following factors that place our environment as well as the planet Earth in
danger.
Global warming or climate change is a major contributing factor to environmental damage.
Because of global warming, we have seen an increase in melting ice caps, a rise in sea levels, and the
formation of new weather patterns. These weather patterns have caused stronger storms, droughts, and
flooding in places that they formerly did not occur.
Air pollution is primarily caused as a result of excessive and unregulated emissions of
carbon dioxide into the air. Pollutants mostly emerge from the burning of fossil fuels in addition to
chemicals, toxic substances, and improper waste disposal. Air pollutants are absorbed into the
atmosphere, and they can cause smog, a combination of smoke and fog, in valleys as well as produce
acidic precipitation in areas far away from the pollution source.
In many areas, people and local governments do not sustainably use their natural resources.
Mining for natural gases, deforestation, and even improper use of water resources can have tremendous
effects on the environment. While these strategies often attempt to boost local economies, their effects
can lead to oil spills, interrupted animal habitats, and droughts.
Ultimately, the effects of the modern world on the environment can lead to many problems.
Human beings need to consider the repercussions of their actions, trying to reduce, reuse, and recycle
materials while establishing environmentally sustainable habits. If measures are not taken to protect the
environment, we can potentially witness the extinction of more endangered species, worldwide pollution,
and a completely uninhabitable planet.

Texting While Walking Is Dangerous

Writing text messages and walking is dangerous. It is more dangerous than driving and
texting. More people get injured while walking than driving. Walking in a straight line is not easy. We
can forget how to walk properly. Dangerous things can happen. We run into people or cars. We fall over
things in the street.
There are a few reasons why texting and walking is dangerous. People cannot see when they look at their
keyboard. Their minds are somewhere else – they are not thinking about walking safely. Thousands of
people have accidents. Some have serious head injuries.
Too Much Jogging Could Be A Problem!
Running is good for our health. A recent study says that running too much is bad for us and
it doesn’t always make our lives longer. A specialist said too much running can damage your heart. Long-
distance runners and people who never exercise can have the same risk of having a heart attack.
Experts looked at the health of 3,300 runners. Most of them ran over 30 kilometres a week.
Marathon runners had hard parts in their heart. A doctor who started running in 1967 is sad. He ran 60
kilometres every week. He thought his heart was strong. Now he has heart problems. He said we should
exercise, but not too much.

Tips For Travelling Alone

Travelling alone seems scary if it’s the first time you are going to leave the comfort of home.
You will probably think about the potential risks or difficult situations. What happens if I get ill, or have
an accident? Isn’t it dangerous to go out alone at night? What happens if I get attacked? Isn’t it strange to
eat at restaurants alone all the time?
Most travellers have these worries and more before their first trip alone, but all these fears
disappear when they see all the benefits of this great experience. Here I’m going to give you 3 tips on
how to travel alone and have a good time.

Speak the language

Humans are sociable creatures. We all need to talk to other people. If you are travelling
alone, it’s a good idea to go somewhere you speak the language.
Sleep with the locals
Hotels are comfortable but very lonely, and hostels are perfect for people who travel alone,
but you will only speak with other tourists. Try to rent a room in an apartment. This will give you a
connection with local residents and they can give you a lot of tips on what you can do.
Don’t be shy
Don’t be afraid of asking. Ask for directions in the street, or ask about the place, the culture
or the customs to the local people that you find in bars, parks, etc. You will be surprised how much
people like to talk about their town or their culture. Remember you are alone. Asking can be an effective
way to start a conversation and meet new people.

Curriculum Vitaes: Tips that can Help

Six out of ten CV’s which are prepared by Information Technology professionals fail to
meet the basic standards and are turned down without even being read fully, according to a recruitment
company. As a consequence, thousands of candidates are excluding themselves from attractive job
opportunities.
Although the company handles over 60,000 CV’s per year, it estimates that at least 60%
would not be admitted if they were sent directly to potential clients due to basic errors.
The company Marketing Director said, “Sadly it’s often the most highly qualified candidates
whose CV’s are so poorly constructed that they are literally dead on arrival. Attractive job opportunities
in the IT industry often generate intense competition and there is often little to choose between the
candidates”.
“Advice on the presentation format of CV’s in relation to the requirements that they are
being submitted for should be an Industry standard so as to add real value to the candidates that you are
representing and indeed to fulfil your professional obligations to your clients”.
“Writing a CV can be extremely difficult and too often a CV turns out to be a generic
overview including a lot of information that is irrelevant. People should remember that an employer
typically spends between 15 and 30 seconds scanning each CV and you have that one chance to make an
impression”.
“A good CV is more than just documentation of your career path; it is a marketing tool
designed to present your professional career experience according to the new job specification. It should
also include details of past professional successes that effectively demonstrate your ability to undertake
the job responsibilities outlined”.

World Walker

Right now, somewhere in the world, Tom Turcich is walking. He started his hike in April
2015 and is still going. His intention is to walk across every continent in the world.
Tom made the decision to travel the world after one of his close friends died at the age of 17. The tragedy
encouraged Tom to make the most of his own life. He spent the next few years completing college and
working to save money, and in 2015, he finally quit his job, packed a few belongings and set off on foot
from his home in New Jersey, USA.
He took a route south through the USA and Central America and down the west coast of
South America. After that, he travelled to Antarctica and Europe aboard a ship, and he is currently
walking across North Africa. From there, he’ll hike east through Asia and Australia. Then he plans to fly
to the west coast of the USA and cross that on foot, back towards his final destination, his home in New
Jersey.
Tom isn’t walking alone. He picked up a dog called Savannah from an animal shelter in
Texas. At first, he thought it would be useful to have a dog protecting him, but the two soon became
perfect travel companions. He thought he would have trouble crossing borders with the dog, but he
acquired a certificate proving that it was free of disease and since then the process has been surprisingly
simple.
Turcich usually walks about 38 kilometres a day, burning 5000 calories daily. He has
encountered a number of difficulties on the way, such as walking across the mountains and volcanoes of
Guatemala. They were so steep that he could only manage about 10 miles a day. He carries just a tent, a
sleeping bag and a few basic supplies, all of which he pushes a baby stroller, as he found that it requires
less effort than carrying a backpack.
When he first started out, his legs ached at the end of the day. But he is now used to the
exercise, although he makes sure to spend time at the end of the day stretching his legs. He had worn out
several pairs of hiking boots already, each pair lasting about 800 kilometres. Tom has an arrangement
with a friend in the States who mails him new pairs of sneakers whenever he needs them.
He has had some great experiences along the way and is always surprised by the generosity
and hospitality of strangers, who frequently welcome him into their homes. However, few of them believe
him when he tells them that he has walked to South America on foot, assuming that he has made a
mistake speaking Spanish. But eventually, they accept his story and are extremely impressed.
Tom keeps a blog where he documents his travels and posts wonderful photographs that he has taken
along the way. He had never been interested in photography before he started his trek but now loves the
art form. He hopes that after returning to the USA, he will be able to work as a travel writer or
photographer.

Active Villagers

Residents of a small Welsh-speaking community have clubbed together to buy the post
office and shop, ten years after buying the pub.
The people of Llithfaen, Caernarfonshire were determined to prevent their village losing its
focal point. Ten years ago they paid £40,000 for the pub, called the Victoria, and now they have helped to
keep the shop open. Most of the cost, £19,500, was met by the local council and a European Union grant,
but the villagers needed to raise a further £6,000 to buy the shop from the owner who is retiring.
John Jones, chairman of the community committee, said: “We went around every house and came back
with £500 more than we needed. The post office and the pub are essential to the life of the village. There
are no other amenities.
“We were not prepared to stand by and let the heart and soul be ripped out of our
community. No one else was going to help us so we decided to buy them ourselves.” Llithfaen had a
population of 600 but that halved when nearby granite quarries were closed. The primary school was shut
because of the population decline but the locals turned it into a leisure centre and youth club.
The shop has been leased to Ffion Medi Llywelyn, 24, who lives in the village with her
husband, Dillon. She said: “There is a wonderful community spirit here.”
