V. Course Description: Introduction of course development software, electronic courseware planning, design and development stages, screen
design principles, digital image/audio/video software, animation, user interaction, feedback techniques, navigation, multimedia courseware
packaging, evaluation. Creating, publishing and evaluation of multi-media applications. This course introduces students to the design and
production process of developing interactive multimedia, a combination of text, sound, animation, graphics, and video. Students will be given
an opportunity to work with a variety of software including programs used for sound and video production, multimedia presentations & image
editing.
Program Educational Objectives:
A graduate of a BS Computer Science degree should be able to:
1. Provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the societal consequences of technology, including computers, and of the
ethical issues that may arise with new technologies
2. Prepare students who will have the theoretical, practical, and professional knowledge to be immediately productive upon entering the
workforce or advanced study.
3. Demonstrate awareness of emerging technologies and the ability to evaluate and utilize currently available software development tools.
4. Show an ability to acquire new knowledge in the computing discipline and to engage in life-long learning.
5. Provide a strong grounding in the body of knowledge and theories of computer science.
6. Understand and apply these essential concepts, principles and practices, showing judgment in the selection, design and application of
tools and techniques;
7. Enhance skills and embrace new technologies through life-long professional development.
8. Recognize and be guided by social, professional and ethical standards involved in the use of computing technologies.

a. Understand the concepts and processes which underpin the design and development of multimedia products.
b. Understand the techniques and technologies used in the development of multimedia solutions.
c. Plan the development of an idea into the realisation of a product.
d. Design and implement multimedia solutions
e. Use appropriate tools for the design, development and creation of digital media artefacts.
f. Locate relevant information from a variety of sources and assimilate, interpret and apply knowledge.
g. Can positively influence educational improvement through altering classrooms, schools, and school systems.

Course General Objectives:


At the of this course, students are expected to:

1. Learn how learning theories influence the development of multimedia product


2. Explore a brief history of multimedia in education;
3. Develop competencies in designing and creating interactive multimedia applications by explaining how elements of these applications
reflect a theory of how learning will occur;
4. Work with all aspects of text, audio, images and video;
5. Learn the phases involved in multimedia planning, design and production;
6. Be able to use various multimedia authoring tools
7. Be able to design and create interactive multimedia products
8. Develop competencies in designing and producing instructional multimedia
9. Apply contemporary theories of multimedia learning to the development of multimedia products.
10. Evaluate existing multimedia products that can be used to design instructional and informational material.
11. Apply theory and principles of learning, instructional design, and perception to the design of instructional media products
12. Demonstrate proficiency with common software applications used to create multimedia assets
