<Detail of Viscometers>
Type: Modified Lanz-Zeiffuchs viscometer with two(2) bulbs. Reversed flow type.
Features: Highly accurate measurement is possible for both opaque and clear
samples. Error due to thermal expansion of specimen is automatically
compensated.
Structure: (Refer to Fig. 2.)
- L-tube: The top conical shaped portion works as specimen inlet, and the
lower portion works as specimen reservoir.
- K-tube: This is an overflow tube. Pour in the specimen to the L tube lentil
the overflow starts flowing into the K tube.
- N-tube: Upper vent tube. Also, after a test, specimen exits through this
tube.
- Capillary: Specimen goes through the capillary to determine the Kinematic
Viscosity. The inside diameter of the capillary is determined by the
Kinematic Viscosity range.
- Timing Bulbs: The specimen flows through the lower "C" bulb and then
upper "J" bulb. Kinematic Viscosity is calculated from the time needed to
flow through these two(2) bulbs."

2 Installation
Place the Tester on a level and steady table. When installing on an optional
dedicated table for AKV-202, adjust the level adjusting screws to hold the Tester in
level.
Avoid locations that are
- hot and humid
- poorly ventilated
- exposed to direct sunlight
- dusty
- subject to frequent temperature fluctuation
13
2.2 Installation
Procedure for removing the air pump base fixing screws is as follows.
1. Remove the Rear Cover fixing screws (8 screws).
2. Remove the Rear Cover.
3. Remove the Air Pump Base fixing screws (2 screws). See Fig. 4.
4. Set the Rear Cover and fix screws.
14
2.3 Electric Connection
Plug the power cord into the back of the control part and insert the power plug AC outlet.
The power consumption of model AKV-202 is 2.0 kW (max). When sharing a single
outlet with other electric appliances, take care to ensure that the total power
consumption does not exceed the capacity of the outlet.
The AC plug of standard accessories has ground terminal. Replace AC plug if the style
of the plug is not fit to your country.
15
2.4 Filling bath liquid
Prepare approx 17 litters of appropriate*1 bath liquid for desired temperature range. The
bath capacity is approximately 17 liters.
*1: For operating temperature equal to or lower than 60 oC, use ion exchanged water or
distilled water. For higher than 60 oC, use silicone oil for extended life of optical fiber.
Silicone oil manufactured by Shin-Etsu Silicone (cat#KF-96-20CS) has been found
satisfactory for AKV-202.
Specification of Sin-Etsu Silicones cat#KF-96-20CS is as follows.
Temperature(oC) -30 0 25 50 100
Kinematic Viscosity (mm2/s) 66.4 32.8 20 13.0 6.7
16
2.5 Preparation of Cleaning Solvents
Remove the lid for cleaning agent tank, and fill the tank with cleaning agent. As
needed, 2 different agents (namely “Solvent-1” and “Solvent-2”) may be used*2, for
which 2 tanks are provided. When using single cleaning agent, the Tester needs to be
set up so that the tank not in use is disabled.*3 The capacity of each tank is approx. 2
litters.
*2: For “Solvent-1”, choose a chemical with good cleaning capability like toluene, while
for “Solvent-2” choose a highly volatile drying agent like ethanol. DO NOT USE A
CHEMICAL WITH ITS BOILING POINT LOWER THAN THE BATH TEMPERATURE.
*3: To disable one of the tanks, refer to AKV-202 Maintenance Manual”.
