1. The work function of a certain material is 5.8 eV. What is the photoelectric threshold
frequency for this material?
[Ans: 1.4 × 10 𝑠 ]

2. The wavelength of the incident photon in Compton scattering is 0.4 nm. If sin /2 is 0.5,
calculate the wavelength of scattered radiation.
[Ans: 0.4012 nm]

3. What are (a) the energy of a photon corresponding to wavelength 1.00 nm, (b) the kinetic
energy of an electron with de Broglie wavelength 1.00 nm, (c) the energy of a photon
corresponding to wavelength 1.00 fm.
[Ans: 1.24 keV; 1.50 eV; 1.24 GeV]

4. Describe photoelectric effect with diagram and graphs (current vs potential difference,
stopping potential vs frequency of incident light).

5. What is De Broglie Hypothesis? Describe conceptually the phenomenon of single & double
slit diffraction.
