INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN SCIENCE 6
Grade Level Six (6)
Quarter First Quarter
Time Allotment 50 minutes
Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of different types of mixtures and
their characteristics.
Performance The learner should be able to prepare beneficial and useful mixtures such as
Standard drinks, food and herbal medicines.
Learning Competency The learner should be able to describe the appearance and uses of uniform
and non-uniform mixtures (S6MT-Ia-c-1)
I. Learning Objectives 3. Describe the appearance of Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures
(U)
II. Subject Matter Describing the appearance of Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixtures
(U)
A. Concept Homogeneous (uniform)mixture appears, clear, particles of the substance,
cannot be distinguish from each other, evenly distributed and uniform in
mixture.
Heterogeneous (non-uniform)mixture appears cloudy particles of the
substances can be distinguish from each other, evenly distributed, non-
uniform in mixture and formation of two or more layers.
B. Materials Cooking oil, iodized salt, white sugar, basin, cup, table spoon, 3 glasses/
jars, vinegar, pebbles, flour, corn grain and white beans
C. References 1. Books and pages.

MIXTURES
Set A Set B
(Homogeneous Mixture) (Heterogeneous Mixture)
NOTE: The teacher asks questions; write down the expected answers
on the chart list.
Teacher ask:
1. What kind of Mixture in Set A? (Homogeneous mixture)
2. What kind of mixture in Set B? (Heterogeneous mixture)
3. Describe the mixture in Set A and B using the phrases in the box.
Become cloudy
Form two layers
Cannot be distinguish from each other
Can be distinguish from each other
Evenly distributed
Not evenly distributed
Uniform mixture
Non-uniform mixture
4. In making the observations, what particular aspects or characteristics
you look into the two sets of mixture? (appearance)
Built Vocabulary:
Today we will learn the meaning of Appearance.
Appearance means the looks of the mixture, becoming visible to the
eyes. powdered milk, oil, gravel
We Do ACTIVITY:
How can we form mixtures?
Let’s use these materials: four glasses, tap water, teaspoon, salt,

Questions:
1. Which mixtures can you not distinguish the components?
2. Which mixtures can you still distinguish the components? Give the
components.
Note: It is important that the teacher will move around to monitor the
activity of the lesson to be able to assess if the learners are doing the
things correctly/ properly and to be able to provide immediate assistance to
the struggling group/s.
Let each group record the observation on the assigned graphic organizer.
TASK CARD
DESCRIBING APPEARANCE OF THE HOMOGENEOUS AND
HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURES
Activity: How do I look?
Guide Questions:
1. What was formed when you mixed each set of standard? (Mixture)
2. Are all sets of mixture in solid form? (No, liquid)
3. On what sets of substance are Homogeneous mixtures? (1 and 4)
4. What about sets 3 and 4? (Heterogeneous mixture)
5. What are the observable appearances of homogenous mixtures?
(Uniform, cannot be distinguished, evenly distributed, clear)
6. What about in Heterogeneous mixtures? (Non-uniform, can be
distinguish, cloudy, form 2 or more layers, evenly distributed)
Materials:
Table spoon, white beans, manila paper, white sugar, cooking oil, 3
glasses/ jars, basin, stirring rod, vinegar, cup, iodized salt, Pebbles,
Note: It is important that the teacher will rim to monitor during activity of
marker
the lesson to be able to assess if the learners are doing the things right
and to be able to provide immediate assistance to the struggling group.
Procedure:
1. Mix the following substances and observe.
2. Write down your observations in the concept map assigned to your
group.
Task 1- Put 1 tablespoon of white sugar to a half filled with water. Stir to
mix. Label it Set A.
Task 2- put 1 cup of pebbles, 1 cup of corn grains, 1 cup white beans in a
basin. Shake to mix. Label it Set B.

member into smaller group then let them work by buddy. Assign only
one leader from Big Group to do the reading of procedures. The
secretary will write down the collected data but in a consolidated form.
Skills: communicating, describing, observing, classifying
C. Explain •Presentation of outputs by each group.
•Questions to process:
1. What was formed when you mixed together the different substance?
(mixture)
2. What are the mixtures you formed? (Heterogeneous and Homogeneous
mixtures)
3. How do we describe Homogeneous mixture and Heterogeneous mixture?
(by its appearance)
4. What are the describable appearances of Homogeneous mixtures? (clear,
no distinguishable particles/ substance, particles are evenly distributed,
uniform in mixture)
5. What are the describable appearances of Heterogeneous mixtures?
(cloudy, no distinguishable particles/ substances, particles are not evenly
distributed, formation of two layers and non-uniform in mixture)
6. Are all your mixtures solid? (No, solid)
Skills: Communicating, Describing
D. Elaborate A. Ask
1. What observable aspect / characteristics of Homogeneous and
Heterogeneous mixtures we look into or observe today? (appearance)
2. What is meant by the appearance of Homogeneous and heterogeneous
mixture? (a. the total looks of Homogeneous or Heterogeneous mixture, b.
becoming visible to the eyes)
3. Describe the appearance of Heterogeneous Mixture? (for two or more
layers, particles can be distinguish, cloudy, not evenly distributed the
particles, non-uniform in mixture)
4. Describe the appearance of Homogeneous Mixture? (clear, evenly
distributed the particles, substance cannot be distinguish, uniform in mixture)
5. How did your group come up in success with your activity? (discipline and
cooperation among members)
