Module Pipe Jointing

This document provides information on the Pipe Jointing module. The module is 5 credits and is offered at NFQ Level 6. It introduces students to various jointing methods for copper, PVC, vulcathene and plastic piping. Students will learn to recognize different jointing methods and apply them to assemble pipe projects. They will also safely use hand and machine tools. The module is assessed through three practical pipe projects, a skills evaluation, and short answer questions examining jointing methods and materials.

Module Author: Kevin Barry

Module The aim of this module is to introduce the student to the various jointing methods for
Description: copper, pvc, vulcathene and plastic piping. On completion of this module, the student will
have the required knowledge to be able to recognise different jointing methods and be
able to apply and assemble pipe projects using the various types of jointing methods. The
student will also be able to safely use hand and machine tools in the workshop environment.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Comply with workshop safety requirements.
LO2 Select and perform a range of pipe jointing and bending exercises to given measurements and
radii.
LO3 Produce a number of pipe projects using correct pipe joints working from selected drawings.
LO4 Define and apply the correct methodology to the inspection of pipe joints.
LO5 Apply the correct use of different chemicals, fluxes, solvents and cleaners when used on pipes
and joints.

Pre-requisite learning
Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module.
You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have
considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior
learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules)
which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this
module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this
module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed
Co-requisite Modules

Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You
may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.
