CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND

The students' understanding of gender awareness and sensitivity will be


determined by this research, which is crucial for pupils.. And This study seeks to
determine a psychosocial intervention to figure out that could address the
problems on Gender issues and also to determine the level of awareness and
sensitivity to the chosen place of our research. According to Gender awareness
among medical students in a Swiss University. BMC Med Educ 20, 156 (Gender

Rrustemi, Isabela Locatelli, Carole Clair, 2020.), the concept of this research is
a way to reduce the barriers caused due to discrimination and gender bias.
Creating the right kind of gender-sensitive environment leads to mutual respect
regardless of their gender. In this research we aim to understand and give
consideration to socio-cultural norms and discriminations in order to
acknowledge the different rights, roles & responsibilities of all the genders in our
community.

Gender awareness and sensitivity is important to know to know. Gender


awareness is the ability to view society from the perspective of gender roles and
how this has affected all the person who is apart of it. And also base on Gender
sensitivity and stereotypes in medical university students: An Italian cross-

RESEARCH PROBLEM AND QUESTIONS

This study seeks to determine a psychosocial intervention program/s that could


address the problems on Gender issues and also to determine the level of
awareness and sensitivity among the students of the Immaculate Mother
Academy Inc. In the strand of GAS, HE, HUMSS, ABM, AND ICT.

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following research questions:

1. What is the status of gender awareness among the respondents?


2. What is the status of Gender Sensitivity among the respondents?
3. What Gender and Development Program maybe proposed?

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

The researchers hypothesized to measure the knowledge in gender awareness


and sensitivity of senior high school students of Immaculate Mother Academy
Inc.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study is mainly focused on the level of gender awareness and sensitivity
of the students. The researchers seek to determine the levels of knowledge of
gender awareness and sensitivity to search and ascertain psychosocial
interventions that could solve issues and problems. This study will be conducted
at The Immaculate Mother Academy INC, also This study aims to include senior
high school participants from both grade 11 – 12 all strands ( ABM, HE,
HUMSS, GAS and ICT ). The data would be gathered by using surveys in a
likert scale.

to gather data on the students gender awareness and sensitivity.

This conceptual framework shows the input, process, output approach of


the study. The participants will put their basic info as a part of profiling to gather
their data. The researchers will gather data through surveys in a likert scale
method. Proposing this programs as an output will address the problems on

gender issues and also to determine the level of awareness and sensitivity
among the senior high school students of Immaculate Mother Academy Inc.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research is made to inform and to seeks to determine a psychosocial


intervention program/s that could address the problems on Gender issues at the
Immaculate Mother Academy Inc.

 Respondents
This research may help the students of the Immaculate Mother Academy
Inc. Determine the data of of respondents who is knowledgeable in
Gender awareness and sensitivity. Also it will them determine whether
the knowledge and skills developed in this research would be useful to
them in the future.

 Teachers
This research will help and aid them in a similar topic. And it will help
them discuss and tackle the this topic or the related topic in the future.

 Future Researchers
This research will add to their interest and knowledge that they can use
as a possible reference to a certain related topic. It will also help them
acknowledge on the data of the students who are aware in Gender
awareness and sensitivity.

 School administrators
This will help them discuss and enhance further the gender awareness
and sensitivity of students at the school. And it will also help them

determine the percentage of the students who are aware in this kind of
topic/research.

 Parent
The parents will benefit their children who are not yet aware of the
Gender awareness and sensitivity. They can instruct or counsel children
on how to acknowledge this kind of topic.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

For better understanding of this study, the following terms are used in this
chapter and are defined in the context of this research.

 Crucial. As valuable or necessary as handling a problem.
 Gender Awareness. Mindful as to how gender influences their
interactions with others.
 Gender Roles. Gender conducts by the existing cultural standards

 Interventions. In order to avoid risk or problems and increase the
performance rate
 Predictors. Anything that makes it easier for you to make future
predictions or consequences.

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the relevant literature and studies that the researcher
considered in strengthening the importance of the present study. It also presents
the synthesis of the art to fully understand the research for better
comprehension of the study.

According to Muhoz (2018), there are many strong obstacles in the way of
implementing equality in schools around the world, some of which are
exacerbated by conservative cultural heritage and religious projections, girls and
women are marginalized against all through particularly in education in terms of
availability and acquiring knowledge, the presence of sexist stereotypes in
education systems, materials such as books, and instructional mechanisms,
along with compositional and reactionary limitations, and even male entitlement
in certain scholastic and highly qualified fields, Beyond the realm of education,
there are numerous issues with gender inequality that stem from serious
injustices against women, such as child slavery, child marriages and parturition,
and armed conflict, which lowers their political representation, The data of this
analysis showed that gender equality remains a long way from being achieved,
and that improvements would be dependent on how the culture of the
community and its members' ingrained beliefs develop.

According to (Eige, 2019), gender awareness is the process of disseminating


trustworthy and approachable information to the general public to foster a better
comprehension of gender equality as the fundamental value of democratic
societies. By raising awareness, it is possible to incorporate a variety of things,
such as a gender lens into strategies and initiatives that address the various

requirements of women and men, Additionally, it seeks to start encouraging and


start promoting good understanding of difficulties such as gender inequality in
compensation and oppression against women. In moreover, it demonstrates
how norms shape our truth of the matter, By increasing awareness, we aspire to
shift or perhaps in some way sway people's beliefs that support gender
inequality.

According to Veronico N. Tarrayo ET. Al (2021) that in the past few years, the
research on Philippines mostly leaned into extreme ends of the implementation
process such as the awareness of educators about the gender perspective or
the success in incorporating gender in their pedagogical practices, rather than
an in-depth analysis on the overall experience of educators in the government’s
attempt to mainstream gender-and-development education in schools. They
enhance the learnings of the learner's thinking skills in this particular research
that serves as method to know the percentage of the learner's knowledge on the
the LGBTQIA+ community. They also observed the interactions of the teachers
and students interaction that may affect their research through gender
interactions.

According to Veronico N. Tarrayo (2021) that in the previous studies revealed


that the Philippines implemented on the gender mainstreaming in their attempts
to mainstream gender-and-development (GAD) education in Philippine schools.
This research has explored the English learning Teachers perceptions on the
the LGBTQIA+ Findings indicate that teachers are ready to integrate a gender
perspective into their teaching. That in the wider prospects, this has been given
an ethical concerns that consideration of gender may generate among
educators, students, and to more larger and wider community. Similar accounts
and experiences may be sparked by the findings of this inquiry in teaching and
learning settings where the gender viewpoint may be incorporated.

According to Petra Verdonk (2009) Gender is an essential determinant of


health and illness. Gender awareness in doctors contributes to equity and
equality in health and aims towards better health for men and women. In this
research they accused that the medicine of being gender-blind by not taking
gender under consideration whenever relevant. Interestingly, to note that gender
issues have not gone unnoticed in medicine; women's reproductive health
issues, for instance, have gotten significant attention. In addition, some female
characteristics have prevented some female patients from participating in
medical studies. For a long time, gender bias in medicine has hardly been
recognized (Zelek et al. 1997). In medicine, the terms ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ are
often used alikely. In a gender-specific medical curriculum students have gained
knowledge and insight into the meaning of gender in health and illness and have
learnt to apply this insight to medical practice (Zelek et al. 1997). Medical
education, in particular, has the power to influence (gender) differences in
medicine through raising awareness of gender differences and gender
inequalities as health determinants

According to khumais (2021) Boys and girls must feel welcome in a safe and
secure learning environment. Governments, schools, teachers and students all
have a part to play in ensuring that schools are free of violence and
discrimination and provide a gender-sensitive, good-quality education. In this
literature they focused on providing the students to be comfortable to their
gender. In addition to being influenced by official textbooks and curricula,
gender stereotypes and preconceptions held by teachers in the classroom have
an impact on students' beliefs and learning. They observe how students
perceive themselves and how they project their role in society is shaped to
some extent by what they experience at school, including by how they are
represented in textbooks.

According to United Nations Human rights (2021) In terms of human rights


and UN ideals, gender equality is at the very core. Gender-based discrimination
is prohibited under almost every human rights treaty. Despite much progress
made in securing women’s rights globally, millions of women and girls continue
to experience discrimination and violence, being denied of their equality, dignity
and autonomy, and even a life. They do this by monitoring and advocating for
women’s rights, building capacity of stakeholders, and providing technical
advice to promote gender equality. This discrimination and violence against all
genders has been deeply rooted by the government or societies.

According to laili Irani (2013) that The amount of gender sensitivity within health
systems and among individuals is influenced and determined by a number of
factors.healthcare professionals. Male and female healthcare workers are
present because of gender-sensitive healthcare.recognize and take into account
the prevailing gender norms in the society while making decisions. therapeutic
choices that will inevitably result in greater health outcomes. However, Gender
integration has lately been improved in facilities. However, not everyone is now
receiving these. hospitals and require more correction. It is necessary to create
a tool that can accurately measure the Healthcare services should be gender
sensitive, and barriers should be regularly addressed.

According to Vasathan R, Ancymol Joy (2021) It is noted that the respondents'


perspectives on the significance of literature and the most important The
function of literature in raising pupils' understanding of gender sensitivity in the
classroom. The specific Analysis reveals how literature connects many facets of
people's lives and expands its arms. to develop abilities and feelings starting at
a young age. In order to build character development and

crucial roles in the academic level. People feel that literature may aid in gaining

public spheres of life. The classroom provides a forum for educating students
about gender sensitivity. They did their research by choosing 50 students to
participate in their research to gather the percentage of the students who is
knowledgeable in gender sensitivity.

According to Suvi Korenius (2018) that This study aims to identify currently
available gender-sensitive pedagogy and education toolkits. for teachers in
secondary schools in developing and middle-income nations. That perhaps
gender-sensitive education is implemented as standard. Despite the fact that
high-income nations are seen as pioneers in gender equality, educators need to
address a variety of gender-related issues. to comprehend this Concerned
issues include not only gender equality but also binary gender, masculinity,
femininity, and gender stereotypes. This research focuses on determining on
addressing the gender awareness, gender sensitivity and gender equality in the
schools of a high-income or low-income countries. That addresses that to
promote gender equality, the teachers or professors must need a better toolkit to
teach children about gender equality.
