SCIENCELP

This lesson plan aims to teach students about plant and animal cells. The objectives are for students to be able to differentiate plant and animal cells based on the presence or absence of organelles, explain why cells are the basic structural and functional units of organisms, and use a compound microscope. The lesson will include an activity where students draw a Venn diagram comparing plant and animal cell structures. It will also cover the functions of cell parts like the nucleus, plasma membrane, cytoplasm, cell wall, chloroplasts, and vacuoles. The lesson evaluates students' understanding with multiple choice questions.

Lesson Plan in Science 7

I. Learning competency
All organisms, big or small consists of cell.
II. OBJECTIVES
After 45 minutes of discussion, students are expected to;
 Differentiate plant and animal cell according to presence or absence of certain
organelles;
 Explain why the cell is considered the basic structural and functional unit of all
organisms;
 Focus specimens using the compound microscope.

( Students have different answer)

The teacher will ask regarding the activity.

1. What can you say bout the cell?

The students will perform the activity. ( Refer to the
activity sheet attached)

B. LESSON PROPER
B. 1: ACTIVITY

The teacher will instruct the students to draw a

venn diagram comparing a plant and animal cells.

B. 2: ANALYSIS
1. A plant cell has a square or rectangular shape
The teacher will ask questions regarding the while the animal cells have an irregular or

1. Compare the shape of a plant with that of

an animal cell as shown in figure 1 and 2.
2. Both plant and animal cells has 3 basi parts
"Correct" which is the nucleus plasma membrane and
cytoplasm.
2. Which cell parts are found in both cells?

"Okay. Let us elaborate the function of these parts.

The nucleus is a part of cells which is easily seen.It

is very important because it controls all athe
activities of the other parts that occur with in the
cell. The nucleus contains materials that play a role

in heredity.

On the other hand, the plasma membrane enclosed

the cell and separates what is inside it from its
environment. It also controls what goes into and
out of the cell. The plasma membrane allows entry
of materials needed by the cell and eliminates
those which are not needed.

Lastly, the cytoplasm consists of a jelly- like

substance where all the other parts of the cell are
loacted. It does not however, include the area
where the nucleus is located. Many different
activities of the cell occur in the cytoplasm.

3. Which are present only in animal cell?

Correct!
3.Only centrioles are found in animal cells.
Centrioles are only found in animal cells. These
have a role in cell reproduction.

4. Which are present only in plant cell?

5. Based on your observations and study of 4. Plant cell have cell walls and chloroplasts.

eukaryotic cells, so they have several features

exchange material from its surrounding by
diffusion or osmosis. Thereafter the
protoplasmic material will be disappeared

and the cell will die."

7. What is the purpose of the cell wall in

plants?
7. Yes, the cell wall is made of stiff material that
forms the outermost part of plant cells;

8. Look at figure 1 again. Why are these

plants to stand upright. It also responsible for the
crisp appearance of fresh vegetables.

However, vacoules in animal cells are called

vesicles, and serves as storage of water and food
and also function in the excretion of waste
materials.

Abstraction

Are all cells the same? Cells are not totally the same.

If not in what ways are ey different? Plant and animal cells differ from its shape. Plant cell
are rectangular or regular in shape, while animal cell
has irregular shape. Both plant and animal cell
contains three basic parts such as nucleus, plasma

embrane nd cytoplasm. Vacoules are present in both

animal and plant cells, however vacoules in animal
cell are small and re called vesicles. Only plant cell
have cell walls and chloroplast. Meanwhile, only
animal cell have cenntrioles.

Application The students will perform the activity. ( See attached

Activity Sheet)
The teacher will let the students view some
specimen (a leaf, and any parts of animal) using a
light microscope.

EVALUATION

Direction: Get ¼ sheet of paper and write the correct answers.

D. Vesicle
2. If the chloroplast of a plant cellare damaged, which will it be unable to do?
A. Protect the cell
B. Make food for the cell
C. Excrete waste material
D. Give instruction for cell to reproduce.
