Name: William Jones M. Rosal Class Schedule: ___________ Date: November 22, 2022

INSTRUCTIONS: Please answer the following questions:

1. Describe the major ethical issues related to Information Technology and identify
situations in which they occur.

Misuse of Personal Information

One of the primary ethical dilemmas in our technologically empowered age revolves around how
businesses use personal information. As we browse internet sites, make online purchases, enter
our information on websites, engage with different businesses online and participate in social
media, we are constantly providing personal details.

2. Identify the major impacts of information technology on organizational structure, power,

jobs, supervision, and decision-making.

Information technology includes all the hardware and software that an organization needs
to use in order to accomplish its organizational objectives. Information technology can also
be defined as the products, methods, inventions, and standards that are used for the purpose of
producing information. An organization’s information technology resources are divided into
two: information technology (IT) infrastructure and human information technology (IT)
resources. IT infrastructure includes hardware, software, communication technologies,
shared technical platforms, and databases. Organizations spend approximately 40% of their
total capital expenditure on infrastructural technologies. Human IT resources include
expenditures relating to salary and training of IT personnel as well as IT training for end users.
Human IT resources bring in a unique innovativeness to firms. They can utilize from the
opportunities provided by the infrastructural IT resources towards decision making and creating
value. Furthermore, proactive utilization of human resources can provide firms
competitive advantage by linking the firm’s internal processes and structure with
continuously changing external environment.

3. Discuss the potential dehumanization of people by computers and other potential

negative impacts of information technology.

The dehumanizing effect that technology is having is not only about empathy and the ability to
interact face to face. People are spending more time on social apps and comparing themselves to
each other, and this constant feeling of missing out is dramatically multiplied when the entire
world is at your fingertips.

Research shows that 61% of young adults feel that technology is dehumanizing, while other
research links social media activity on apps such as Facebook with increased anxiety and
depression.

4. Identify some of the major societal effects of information technology.

People can talk or share information with their loved ones easily even if they are very far
away from them. Improved Education and learning process: Technology enhances the
education and learning process. Nowadays, people can easily enhance their knowledge
using the internet
5. Describe the many threats to information security.

Information Security threats can be many like Software attacks, theft of intellectual

property, identity theft, theft of equipment or information, sabotage, and information
extortion.

6. Identify the various defense mechanisms of information systems.

7. Explain IT auditing and planning for disaster recovery.

Also referred to or addressed as an IT audit, a disaster recovery audit is the process of collecting
and evaluating information about a business’s information systems, procedures, practices,
operations and governance. Once the information, or evidence, is obtained, the internal
auditor evaluates all of it to determine whether the information systems are adequately protecting
assets, maintaining data integrity and operating effectively and efficiently to ensure that the
organization achieves its goals and objectives.
