PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Agisoft Metashape is a stand-alone software product that performs photogrammetric processing of digital images
(aerial and close-range photography, satellite imagery) and generates 3D spatial data to be used in GIS applications,
cultural heritage documentation, and visual effects production as well as for indirect measurements of objects of
various scales.

The software allows to process images from RGB, thermal or multispectral cameras, including multicamera systems,
into the spatial information in the form of point clouds, textured polygonal models, georeferenced true
orthomosaics and DSMs/DTMs. Further post-processing enables to eliminate shadows and texture artifacts from the
models, calculate vegetation indices and extract information for farming equipment action maps, automatically
classify point clouds, etc

HOW IT WORKS:
Typical tasks for a photogrammetry processing project in Metashape are to build a 3D surface and an orthomosaic.
Imagery data processing procedure with Agisoft Metashape consists of three main steps.

• Alignment
• Generation of 3D surface
• Orthomosaic

1. The first step is called alignment. It includes aerial triangulation (AT) and bundle block adjustment (BBA). At this
stage Metashape searches for feature points on the images and matches them across images into tie points.
The program also finds the position of the camera for each image and refines camera calibration parameters
(estimates internal (IO) and external (EO) camera orientation parameters).

2. The second step is generation of a surface in 3D (mesh) and/or 2.5D (DEM). Polygonal model (mesh) can be
textured for photorealistic digital representation of the object/scene and exported in numerous formats
compatible with post-processing software, both for CAD and 3D-modeling workflows.

3. The third step is creating of Orthomosaic, which can be georeferenced and used as a base layer for various types
of maps and further post processing analysis and vectorization. Orthomosaic is generated by projecting the
images according to their EO/IO data on a surface of the user's choice: DEM or mesh.

WHY AGISOFT PHOTOSCAN METASHAPE:


Since 2017, Agisoft Photoscan was in use to process daily and weekly Mine survey data. This software was used to
process the data and get the 3D models of the Mine which helps to develop the weekly excavation plan in EPC phase.
It also helps to check and reconcile the weekly coal tonnages. The software was also used in finalization of stockyard
coal tonnages at the end of each month.

Agisoft Photoscan software was in use from last 5 years. The expiry of the software was September 2022. All the
member of Mine Planning team are fully trained and having hands on experience on this software. No training is
required for the same software to continue in future. Agisoft Photoscan Software is one of the industry leading
software in creating point cloud and 3D models.

SOFTWARE NEED AND REQUIREMENT :


Considering the ongoing mine advancement and initiation of Phase-III in upcoming month, conventional topographic
survey which is conducted by third party is taking almost 7 days to submit the end results of the survey. In lieu of
strict guidelines and protocols issued by HSE department, there is a need to minimize the pedestrian moment in the
mining site. In order to comply with HSE guidelines and increase the work efficiency, Mine Planning department is
going to introduce the drone surveying in substitute of the Topographic survey conducted by 3 rd party on foot which
is causing serious safety concerns.

ADVANTAGES AND OUTCOMES


By using the drone processing software (Agisoft Photoscan Metashape), it will pose the following advantages:

• Achieve accurate results as compared to conventional topographic survey.


• Get the survey results/data in 02 days, which will assist in the Monthly designing/reconciliation.
• Minimize the interaction of Person-equipment. No pedestrian movement in the mine.
• Generation of 3D mine Models
• In-house expertise of operating the software
• Savings of approximately 3.0 million PKR/year
• Software purchasing cost will cover within 06 Months

FUTURE BUSINESS REQUIREMENT:


As the Mining operation is advancing and company is thinking about to develop new pit (Pit-2). There is a need to
replace the conventional surveying method to better and safe drone surveying. Which is not only beneficial for the
company’s business in term of financial but also deal with safety concerns at the mining site. After the recent fatality
incident at dumping site, there is a need to adopt the AI technology.
