For comparison purposes, Wood and his colleague reported the mean scores for these three
dimensions in both a students’ and community sample. The three subscales contained within
this measure illuminate ways in which you (i.e., the student) might be more or less authentic.
It may be helpful to know that accepting external influence and self-alienation were both
significantly associated with stress and lower happiness while authentic living was associated
with higher happiness.

The pursuit of authenticity involves a journey of self-acceptance and self-discovery. Peeling

back the layers of society and personal expectations and facing one's genuine self require
courage and vulnerability. A life that is lived in accordance with one's principles, beliefs, and
passions, however, is the reward. In this journey, individuals may experience difficulties as they
travel this path, including feelings of inadequacy, fear of letdown or rejection, and confusion
about who they truly are. However, they will progressively develop a greater sense of who they
are and what they stand for if they remain devoted to their journey and keep challenging
themselves.

During this process, they might have to face tough decisions and let go of bonds, routines, or
convictions that no longer serve their true selves. I strongly relate to that statement because I
was a people pleaser, but when they let go of these outside sources of approval and dig deeper
into their own truth, they will discover a fresh sense of freedom and direction. In general,
pursuing authenticity necessitates a readiness to confront one's concerns, embrace one's flaws,
and have faith that the road is worthwhile. And as a person learns to be true to themselves and
confident in who they are, the outcome is a life lived with purpose and fulfillment.

The existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre mentioned that we have free will that allows us to have
complete freedom to determine our lives from the choices available. The pursuit of authenticity
is a personal choice that is influenced by one's surroundings and values. However, many
people find that pursuing authenticity has a lot of advantages. I would want to achieve
authenticity because of the benefits, or what I think are the benefits, that can help me identify a
new individual and bring out the best in myself. It can improve my self-awareness and mental
health because I wouldn't have to try and become someone when I can just be my true self. The
pursuit of authenticity can provide its own set of difficulties, necessitating individuals to make
difficult decisions and let go of things that are no longer consistent with their genuine selves.
Whether it's worthwhile or not depends on the individual, but for many, the advantages of
leading an authentic life exceed the challenges.

The question of authenticity being achievable makes it a finite destination that can be reached
but in my understanding, this is an individual and lifelong journey. It is a condition of being that
involves ongoing work and thought rather than a final goal that can be attained. It entails
remaining true to oneself, making decisions that are consistent with one's ideals, and being at
ease with one's identity despite pressure from others. Whether authenticity can ever be fully
attained depends on your point of view, but what matters is the effort made to become the best
version of yourself.
