GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT COMPETITIONS

1. QUALIFICATIONS:

a. Contestant must be a bona fide student of any Higher Education Institutions


(HEIs) and DepEd Institutions (State Universities, Private Colleges/Universities,
and Private Schools).

b. An official delegate of the PACSA National Convention 2023.

2. HOW TO JOIN?

a. Must be a registered participant in the main event. If not yet registered, just click
the link https://rebrand.ly/PACSANatConRegistration2023. Reminders for
participants to avoid the forfeiture of entries.

b. Fill out the competition’s registration form at individually.

c. All registered participants must attend the general orientation on March 1, 2023
(Wednesday) at exactly 1:00 p.m. The link will be sent via email after registration,
the Face-to-Face Orientation will be done at the Benitez Hall, Teachers Camp,
Baguio City.

d. The deadline of registration and submission of entry will be on February 27,


2023 until 11:59 p.m. only.

e. All entries must be sent at [email protected] and please use the


COMPETITION TITLE as your email subject and the participant’s FULL NAME as
the file name of your entry. All competitions are for submission except the ON-
THE-SPOT ESSAY WRITING.

f. All registered participants must attend the competition briefings on March 1, 2023
(Wednesday) at exactly 1:00 p.m.

g. Initial judging of entries will be March 1-3, 2022. The Board of Judges will be
from the organization's partners. Top entries will be uploaded to the Official
Facebook Page of PACSA.

h. AVOID POSTING OR SHARING it to any social media account before the


actual release of entries to avoid disqualification.

i. Do not forget to like and share our Official Facebook Page at

3. PRIZES FOR WINNERS:

a. The prize is neither refundable nor transferable. Only the winner is eligible
to claim the prize.

b. The following are the prizes for all events: • Champion = Cash Prize +
Certificate • First Place = Cash Prize + Certificate • Second Place = Cash
Prize + Certificate • Nonwinners will receive a Certificate of Participation as
a consolation prize.

4. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

a. Contestants must agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the


general guidelines.

b. Failure to comply will result in DISQUALIFICATION.

SINGING COMPETITION GUIDELINES

Original Pilipino Music (OPM) for Students and Campus Advisers

1. MECHANICS:

a. Be guided accordingly with the COMPETITIONS’ GENERAL GUIDELINES.

b. Only four (4) entries per core group are allowed, two (2) for student category
and two (2) for campus adviser category.

c. Each contestant must deliver any Original Pilipino Music (OPM) piece.

d. The competition will be conducted face-to-face at the venue.

2. ELIMINATION ROUND

a. During the elimination round, the top 5 will be chosen according to these judges’
criteria.

Criteria are as follows:

Vocal Technique

(Tone Quality, Diction, Breath Support & Dynamics) - 50%

Showmanship (Overall Impact) - 20%

Song Choice (Genre and Adherence to the theme) - 15%

Concept & Expression (Emotions Portrayed) - 15%

b. In case there is a tie, the chairman of the board will be the one to break the tie.

c. The judges’ decision will be final and irrevocable.

3. FINAL ROUND

a. The top 5 entries will compete during the final round during the second day of
the convention.

b. In the final round, 80% of the average score from the elimination round will be
used and 20% of the score will come from the votes of the officially registered
delegates during the day of the event.

c. The top 3 entries with the highest garnering scores will be declared as the
winners.

d. Winners will be identified as Champion, First Runner Up and Second Runner


Up.

e. Winners will be announced during the awarding ceremony.

On the Spot Essay Writing Contest

1. MECHANICS

a. Strictly read the COMPETITIONS’ GENERAL GUIDELINES.

b. Only two (2) entries per core group are allowed.

c. All entries must be original works in English and the topics for discussion
will be derived from the series of talks that participants must attend.

d. Plagiarism, which includes the use of third-party poetry, song lyrics,


characters, or another person's ideas, without written permission or proper
acknowledgment will result in disqualification.

e. The Committee reserves the FIRST RIGHTS to all entries. Other rights
to the piece will remain as the property of the participant.

f. Excessive violence, sex, or religious extremism, determined by the judges


will also result in disqualification.

g. Entries will be constructed during the event as scheduled in a venue


provided by the committee, thus participants must bring with them their own
laptop.

h. Entries must be works of prose, strictly in 500 to 600 words in length using
Arial 12.

i. Participants must submit their title, complete name, as well as the contact
number, and email address to the PACSA Competition Committee for
reference.

j. Every page must have the title and page numbers (If more than a page),
but DO NOT INCLUDE the participant’s name in the file. (To facilitate fair
judging).

k. Each contestant may submit only one essay.

l. All entries are final. No revisions will be accepted.

2. JUDGING OF ENTRIES

a. The top 3 BEST Essays will be chosen according to these judges’ criteria.

Criteria are as follows:

Content Conceptualization

(Creativity and Adherence to the theme) - 40%

Originality and Style

(Choice, Use and Arrangement of Words) - 25%

Organization

(Clarity, Focus, Logicalness and Effectivity) - 25%

Convention

(Grammar, Spelling, Usage and Sentence Formation) - 10%

Digital Poster Making Contest

1. MECHANICS

a. Strictly read the COMPETITIONS’ GENERAL GUIDELINES.

b. Only two (2) entries per core group are allowed.

c. Entries must illustrate, interpret, must be original works, and emphasize


the theme given by the committee.

d. Entries must be in a JPEG, JPG, or PNG (Landscape) Format.

e. Participants may use any online platform or application.

f. The placement of identifying marks such as names, addresses, or any


sign to insinuate information about the owner/photographer of the entry is
strictly prohibited (To facilitate fair judging).

2. ELIMINATION ROUND

a. During the elimination round, the top 5 or top 10 entries (Depending on


the number of registered participants) will be chosen according to these
judges’ criteria.

Criteria are as follows:

Content (Creativity, Message and Adherence to the theme) - 45%

Visual Appeal (Color Harmony, Fonts and Design) - 45%

Balance (Text and Figures) - 10%

3. FINAL ROUND

Spoken Word Poetry

1. MECHANICS

a. Strictly read the COMPETITIONS’ GENERAL GUIDELINES.

b. Only two (2) entries per core group are allowed.

c. Participants must prepare poetry, which must be an original work that


emphasizes the theme given by the organizers and illustrates the current
events or issues concerning the youth.

d. The video should be in a landscape format (MP4) with a minimum of three


(3) minutes and a maximum of five (5)minutes.

e. The language used must be FILIPINO. Borrowed/Loan words are


acceptable.

f. Use copyright-free background music.

g. Participants may provide their background picture/video and music to


hype the audience. At the end of the video, do not forget to indicate your
photo and video references. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

h. The placement of identifying marks such as names, addresses, or any


sign to insinuate information about the owner/photographer of the entry is
strictly prohibited (To facilitate fair judging).

i. The video should be taken inside the house for safety purposes; failure to
obey the IATF protocols would result in disqualification.

Photography Contest (Digital)

1. MECHANICS

a. Strictly read the COMPETITIONS’ GENERAL GUIDELINES.

b. Only two (2) entries per core group are allowed.

c. Entries must be in a JPEG, JPG, or PNG (landscape) format.

d. Participants must capture a photo that emphasizes the theme given by


the committee.

e. Entries must have a title and caption to describe the entry.

f. The participants are encouraged to take pictures inside the house.


Nevertheless, if the picture was taken outside, you must have to follow the
safety protocols such as wearing a face mask; failure to obey the IATF
protocols will result in disqualification.

g. Entries can be taken through any devices available provided by the


participants.

h. This photo contest shall be governed by the BILL OF RIGHTS FOR


PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITIONS.

i. The placement of identifying marks such as names, addresses, or any


sign to insinuate information about the owner/photographer of the entry is
strictly prohibited (To facilitate fair judging).

2. ELIMINATION ROUND

a. During the elimination round, the top 5 or top 10 entries (Depending on


the number of registered participants) will be chosen according to these
judges’ criteria.

c. Winners will be identified as Champion, First Runner Up and Second


Runner Up.

d. Winners will be announced during the awarding ceremony.

the participants.

2. ELIMINATION ROUND

a. During the elimination round, the top 5 or top 10 entries


(depending on the number of registered participants) will be chosen
according to these judges’ criteria.

Criteria are as follows:

Performance - 40%

(Staging, Execution Showmanship, Projection Stabilization

and Variety of Hip Hop Routines, Entertainment Value

and Crowd Appeal)

Choreography & Originality - 30%

(Dance Arrangements &Concept, Incorporating

Unique and Original /Creative Moves)

Theme & Music 20%

(Musicality, Beat Techniques, Timing,

Synchronization, Moves Related to the Music)

Costume (10%)

The Philippine Association of Campus Student Advisers (PACSA, Inc.) is cordially
inviting Campus Student-Advisers, Student-Leaders, Educators and Researchers in the
PACSA Research Paper Presentation at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City on March 1-4,
2023

At the end of this Research Presentation, PACSA Inc. have:


a. promoted the culture of research as a form of creative and scientific
innovation and development both in the academe and professional practice;
b. provided audience with significant insights on the emerging trends and
developments in the field of research, specifically on student welfare and
development, campus advising, and community extension services;
c. disseminated research findings and opportunities for publication to learn
from and to contributing the advancement of scholarly debates on timely
and relevant issues on the aforementioned themes; and,

d. shared practices, relevant experiences and related ideas towards


collaborations in creating research prospects.

I. General Guidelines and Mechanics

1. Submissions should be related to student welfare and development, campus


advising, and community extension services.

2. The conference accepts papers that are original, was not published yet, nor
submitted for a review to other journal. This must be the first time that the
paper will undergo public presentation.

3. THE ABSTRACT submitted for presentation will be subjected to a double


blind review process. The editor decides whether the manuscript will be
rejected, revised, or accepted based on reviewers’ recommendations.

4. The abstract should contain the following, Introduction, Objectives, Methods,


Results, Conclusions, and 3-5 keywords only. Please refer to ABSTRACT
TEMPLATE

5. The Abstract should be in

a. No. of Pages: 1 page only and text should be in single paragraph


b. Paper size: A4
c. Font style- Tahoma
d. Font size- 11
e. Margin: 1 inch in all sides
f. Spacing: 1.5
g. Parts: Introduction, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
h. Keywords: 3-5 words
i. Title: Sufficiently informative and concise
j. Other Inclusions: Author/s name/s, affiliations, E-mails address, and mobile
numbers.
• Introduction
ü This should include a review of current knowledge of the general
topic to be studies.
ü References are cited to support the statements and in proper
format
ü Research questions or objectives should be explicitly stated and
hypothesis if any.
ü It should gradually narrow in focus and conclude with specific
questions, objectives, and hypothesis to be addressed.
• Methods

ü This part should make use of subheadings to help


organize this section.
ü The subheadings should include the Research Design,
Informants/ Respondents or the Participants, Instruments, Data
Gathering Procedure, and Data Analysis Procedure.
ü Likewise, it is also ideal to include sampling technique, Validity
and Reliability of Study, and Ethical Considerations.
• Results
ü Key results from statistical analyses should be properly
presented and properly summarized.
ü The authors should also include hypotheses were or were not
supported by statistical analyses results.
ü It is also important to consider that the results must be correctly
interpreted, compared and contrasted results with those of other
researches and speculating as to why results did or did not
support the hypotheses and etc.
• Conclusions: Conclude by addressing the broader significance of the
study to the advancement of knowledge related to the topic presented.

6. Power point (ppt/ pptx) Details for the Oral Presentation

• Research works should be presented in 5minutes only. The sound of the bell will
signify the end of presentation.
• PPT/PPTX presentation should be prepared in advance to facilitate efficient oral
presentation.
• The PPT/PPTX should be sent via the e-mail on a designated date to the organizer
for easy access of both presenters and organizers during the day of the
presentation.
• The PPT/PPTX should be in 10-12 slides only with appropriate animations to
present the concept with in the expected and time allotment and novelty. PLEASE
SEE USE THE PPT TEMPATE PROVIDED.
• Due to limited time constraints, presenters refrain from unnecessary explanations
to further elaborate ideas which are presented in the slide text.

7. Submission of ABSTRACT and Notification of Acceptance

• The submission of ABSTRACTs must be through the PACSA Research


Committee, via email address [email protected] or before February
1, 2023 for the publication of Electronic Book of Abstracts.
• The authors are reminded to upload the document on designation folder
according to theme ( Student Welfare and Development, Campus Advising,
Community Extension Services) and according to category ( Student or
Professional Presenters)
• This will allow reviewers to be given ample time for the double-blind review
process.
• The Research Committee shall inform the presenters of accepted papers for
presentation thru indicated email address starting February 7, 2023.
• Upon the receipt of the NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE, the author should respond
through a confirmation of the attendance to the national conference by means of
duly-accomplished registration form and a copy of transaction deposit slip wherein
payments must be thru bank transaction only.

8. Publication of Journal of Abstracts

• All accepted abstracts for oral presentation will be published in the Book of
abstracts and proceedings.
• The Research Committee of PACSA Inc. reserves its right to edit and/or reformat
the research entries for Book of Abstracts through the recommendations of
reviewers.
• Research presenters and conference participants will be given a copy if the Book
of Abstracts.

9. Research Awards and Citations

• All Research presenters will be given a certificate of Paper presentation and


conference participation. However, the presenter receives a certificate of Oral
Presentation.

10. Publication Ethics

• The AUTHOR (Research Presenter):


ü ensures the research work is new, original, and unpublished and
be presented for the first time.
ü makes sure that the work submitted to the publisher is not
published in any other journal.
ü sees to it that the work has not currently been submitted to be
reviewed or considered by other journals.
ü informs the Editor-in-Chief of any inaccuracy of data in their
published work so that correction or retraction of article can be done.
ü ensures that the work present significant contributions and be
held accountable for any shortcoming in their work.

• The REVIEWER
ü discloses any conflict of interest before agreeing to review a
submitted work.
ü refuses to review any submission due to inadequate of knowledge.
ü reviews all submissions with objectivity, fairness, and
professionalism.
ü Reports any ethical misconduct in the process of the review to the
Editor-in-Chief for further action.
ü ensure the originality of a submission to avoid plagiarism and
redundant publication.
ü discusses discloses the content of a submission.
ü completes the review within the time allocated.
ü requests for an extension to review the submission

• The EDITOR:
ü contributes actively to the development of the book of abstracts and
potential publications.
ü acts as an ambassador of the journal to continuously support and
promote the research engagement on behalf of the organization.
ü reviews any work assigned.

• The EDITOR-IN-CHIEF:
ü evaluates abstracts solely based on intellectual merits.
ü ensures confidentiality of manuscripts and details of the manuscripts
involved in the publishing process.
ü decides when and which articles are to be published.
ü seeks the recommendations of board members, reviewers and
authors to increase the visibility of the journal.
ü gives clear instructions to potential contributors on the submission
process.

ü ensure appropriate reviewers are selected/ identified


for the reviewing process.

ü To avoid plagiarism, submission of original work that has not been published or
sought publication elsewhere is highly expected. Manuscripts will undergo
plagiarism test through electronic software to ensure originality of the submitted
research work.

ü Results must be state clearly, truthfully, and without fabrication, falsification or


inappropriate data manipulation. The methodology should be clearly and
unambiguously described so that the findings can be repeated and confirmed by
other researchers.

ü The corresponding author need to ensure that only relevant co-authors are
included on the manuscript. Also, only those who made significant contribution in
the conduct of the research shall be the ones included in the list of authors.

11. List of Journal for Publication


• The list of journal that the author may consider for publication are listed
below.

• The author who are interested to have their work published in the
aforementioned journals are encouraged to directly contact the publisher
for clarifications. Moreover, specific guidelines of journals will be applied.

PACSA SEARCH FOR SUSTAINABLE ACTION PLAN

As we are responsible for our welfare, we are also accountable to our schools and
communities. Thus, we from PACSA urge you to participate in the " PACSA Sustainable
Action Plan (PSAP 2023)" a contest, where you will propose a project that aimed to
address existing issues at school, at home, or in your community.

This is a good opportunity to help student leaders and campus advisers to contribute to
finding a way to student development and community engagements, the group that will
win will have a cash prize of PHP 20,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition. The Cash
prize will be used in the immediate implementation of the action plan which will be
presented as an outstanding output during the next national convention.

Contest Guidelines

1. This is open to a maximum of 2-4 schools per core group and should register as project
participants on or before February 14, 2023.

2. Collaboration of Campus Advisers and Student Leaders from various schools is


required.

3. Project proposal should be crafted during the scheduled day of competition and to be
submitted in pdf format and should also submit a 1 to 3 minutes creative video
presentation discussing what the action plan is all about.

4. Project participants should also be present during the whole duration of the event
which is on March 1-3, 2023.

The project to be proposed will be rated thru the following criteria:

· Impact - 30%

· Sustainability - 40%

· Innovativeness - 10%

· Viability (Implementation Timeline) - 20%

The scoring will be 5 as the highest and 1 as the lowest per criteria. The
project that has the highest points will be declared the winner.
