AUTOBIOGRAPHIES(Part-2)

S.K.B. PRESENTATION
Truth, Love & a Little Malice
• Truth, Love and a Little Malice (published in
2002) is the title of
the autobiography of Khushwant Singh, a
famous Indian writer, journalist and columnist
who is also a qualified Barrister from the Kings
College, London. Apart from tracing his story
and immediate family history, it deals in-depth
with his relations with political dignitaries. The
name of the book itself was derived from a
famous column that he wrote for
the newspaper Hindustan Times (and that was
syndicated in several newspapers) with the
title "With malice towards one and all."
• Some exclusive excerpts of the book detailing
the relationship between the ex-Prime
minister Indira Gandhi and her daughter-in-
law Maneka Gandhi were published in India
Today to generate publicity before publication
of the book. The publication of the book was
held up for more than five years after Maneka
Gandhi filed a case against the release of the
book.
My Autobiography
• An authentic, heartfelt and compelling narrative
– straight from the horse’s mouth – that reveals
for the first time numerous unknown aspects of
the life and times of one of the greatest legends
of all time who stands out as a symbol of
secular India. Dilip Kumar (born as Yousuf Khan),
who began as a diffident novice in Hindi cinema
in the early 1940s, went on to attain the
pinnacle of stardom within a short time. He
came up with spellbinding performances in one
hit film after another – in his almost six-decade-
long career – on the basis of his innovative
capability, determination, hard work and never-
say-die attitude.
• In this unique volume, Dilip Kumar traces his
journey right from his birth to the present. In
the process, he candidly recounts his
interactions and relationships with a wide
variety of people not only from his family and
the film fraternity but also from other walks of
life, including politicians. While seeking to set
the record straight, as he feels that a lot of what
has been written about him so far is ‘full of
distortions and misinformation’, he narrates, in
graphic detail, how he got married to Saira
Banu, which reads like a fairy tale!

GOLDEN GIRL
• A Shot at History: My Obsessive Journey
to Olympic Gold is
an autobiography of Indian 2008 Summer
Olympics Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra. He
won the medal in the 10-metre air
rifle category, which made him India's first
ever individual gold medalist; this victory
came after received the seventh rank at
the 2004 Athens Olympics. However, due
to Bindra's inexperience in writing, he co-
authored the book with sportswriter Rohit
Brijnath, which took them two years to
complete. After it was released on October
20, 2011, at nationwide stores by
Hapercollins, Union Sports minister Ajay
Maken formally released the book on
October 27, 2011, at a function in New
Delhi. The book's subsequent Bangalore
release in November 2011 was done
by Rahul Dravid and went on to receive
good reviews
• Playing It My Way is
the autobiography of
former Indian
cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. It
was launched on 5
November 2014 in Mumbai.
• The book summarises
Tendulkar's early days, his 24
years of international career
and aspects of his life that
have not been shared
publicly.
• It entered the Limca Book of
Records for being the best
selling adult hardback across
both fiction and non-fiction
categories.
• Veteran cricketer VVS Laxman has
launched the cover of his much-
awaited autobiography, '281 and
Beyond' via Facebook livestream.
The tell-all book, which will hit the
stands on November 19, is co-written
by sports journalist R Kaushik.
Claiming to be a "candid, reflective,
and deeply insightful", the
autobiography, as per Laxman, was in
his mind since he retired from the
international cricket.
• The title of the book has been
borrowed from the "Hyderabad
stylist's" fabulous series-turning
innings of 281 against Australia at the
Eden Gardens in 2001.
• ‘. . . being a player from India defines who I
am. When I play, it’s for my parents, my
coach, and my country.’ Meet Saina Nehwal—
India’s star badminton player and World
Number 4, Padma Shri and Khel Ratna
awardee, the girl who brought laurels to India
by winning an Olympic medal at the age of
twenty-two. In this fascinating memoir, she
talks about her childhood and growing–up
years; her relationship with the most
important people in her life; the ups and
downs of her celebrated career, from district
level wins to the Olympics; and the sacrifices
needed to succeed in any sport. She also
reveals little-known facts and offers a peek
into her many avatars—daughter, sister,
student, and the regular girl behind the
badminton prodigy. Find out what a typical
day in Saina’s life is like—rigorous training, a
strict diet, and no parties or sleepovers. But
it’s not all work and no play; Saina loves to
shop, eat ice cream (post wins only), and play
games on her iPad! With candid photographs
and badminton tips from the pro herself, this
book showcases the making of a badminton
champ—in her own words.

No Holding Back: The Autobiography
Brian Charles Lara
• Matthew Hayden was one of the most commanding
batsmen the game has ever seen - and one of its
great enigmas. A religious man and a ruthless on-field
sledger. A brutal enforcer, and a soft-hearted family
man. Australian record-holder for highest score in
Tests and One Day Internationals, who was at times
troubled by self-doubt and doubters. In Standing My
Ground Hayden confronts these contradictions head-
on. He talks frankly about the forces that shaped his
journey from fringe international to a giant of the
game, and takes us on a privileged tour inside the
sporting machine that dominated all comers in a
golden age of Australian cricket. This isn't a
predictable ball-by-ball account of a stellar career.
Instead, Hayden delivers a characteristically direct
assessment of the matches and the people that
mattered most. He opens up on umpires, the media,
superstitions, teammates and opponents with
disarming honesty and humour. The country boy from
Kingaroy rose to greatness in the cricket world. Here
is the superstar batsman, the surfer, fisherman and
chef in a book as bold and powerful as the man
himself.
