Machine Design

1) The document describes the design of a machine foundation for a 3390 kW diesel engine generator. 2) Key specifications of the diesel generator include a manufacturer of CAT, model of 20V4000G44F, rated speed of 1500 rpm, and max power of 3088 kWm. 3) The proposed design uses direct settlement and has dimensions of 6.8m x 2.8m x 2m and a calculated weight of 84,210 kg. 4) Calculations show the proposed foundation is safe, with an induced stress on the soil of 5,536.82 kg/m^2, less than the allowable soil bearing pressure of 15,600 kg/m^2

INTRODUCTION

Diesel generators are incredibly practical devices that turn diesel

fuel into electricity. Around the world, diesel generators are utilized in a
variety of applications. They are typically installed in rural parts where
they can be connected to the power grid and can be utilized as a
backup system or as the primary power source. Because they can be
immediately turned on and off without creating any time delay, diesel
generators can also be utilized to balance out the energy's rising power
usage.
Is a method of generating electricity that combines a diesel engine
with an electric generator. This is a particular instance of an engine
generator. Most diesel compression-ignition engines are made to run
on diesel fuel, however certain models can also run on other liquid
fuels or natural gas.

Based on good practice in DESIGN OF A PROPOSED MACHINE FOUNDATION OF A DIESEL ENGINE

GENERATOR the following limitations must be considered to insure a well-design foundation:

1. The distance of the edges of the foundation from the bed plate must be 6 in (120 mm)

to 12 in (300 mm).

2. The vertical distance from the floor or soil level to the top edge of the foundation

must be around 6 in (120 mm) as minimum.
