1 Introduction

1 Introduction
Edupoint Synergy is a web-based solution that delivers Student Information System (SIS) features.
Synergy is Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) compliant and SIF-certified. Synergy delivers features
and compliance reporting capabilities through a flexible, customizable architecture that:

Streamlines workflow

Supports data-driven decision making

Facilitates collaborative communications

Synergy tracks and manages all essential district and student data while streamlining all essential K-12
student information management processes.

The KEMP LoadMaster can be used to load balance the Edupoint Synergy workload. The LoadMaster
offers advanced Layer 4 and Layer 7 server load balancing, content switching, SSL Acceleration and a
multitude of other advanced Application Delivery and Optimization (ADC) features. The LoadMaster
intelligently and efficiently distributes user traffic among application servers so that users get the best
experience possible.

1 Introduction

1.1 Document Purpose


The purpose of the document is to outline steps on how to configure the KEMP LoadMaster to load
balance the Edupoint Synergy workload.

1.2 Intended Audience


This document is intended to be read by anyone who is interested in finding out how to load balance
Edupoint Synergy using a KEMP LoadMaster.

2 Configuring the LoadMaster


Two Virtual Services are needed to load balance the Edupoint Synergy workload. This Virtual Services can
be configured manually, or a template can be used to quickly and easily configure the Virtual Services
with the recommended settings. Refer to the relevant section below to find out how to create the Virtual
Services.

2.1 Manually Configure the Virtual Services


2.1.1 Create the Virtual Service
To manually configure the Virtual Services, follow the steps below in the LoadMaster Web User Interface
(WUI):

1. In the main menu, select Virtual Services > Add New.

2. Enter a valid Virtual Address.

3. Enter 443 as the Port.

4. Enter a recognizable Service Name, for example Edupoint Synergy HTTPS Offloaded.

5. Click Add this Virtual Service.

6. Configure the settings as recommended in the following table:

Cookie Name LM_Synergy Click Set Cookie.

7. Add any Real Servers as needed.

2.1.2 Modify the Redirector Virtual Service


When Add HTTP Redirector is clicked, a redirector Virtual Service is automatically created. To configure
this Virtual Service, follow the steps below:

1. In the main menu, select Virtual Services > View/Modify Services.

2. Click Modify on the redirect Virtual Service.

3. Enter a recognizable Service Name, for example Edupoint Synergy HTTPS Offloaded HTTP
Redirection.

4. Select None as the Persistence Mode.

2.1.3 Create the Virtual Services using a Template


KEMP has developed a template containing the recommended settings for Edupoint Synergy. This
template can be installed on the LoadMaster and can be used when creating each the Virtual Services.
Using a template automatically populates the settings in the Virtual Services. This is quicker and easier
than manually configuring each Virtual Service. If needed, you can make changes to any of the Virtual
Service settings after using the templates.

Released templates can be downloaded from the KEMP website: Templates.

For more information and steps on how to import and use templates, refer to the Virtual Services and
Templates, Feature Description.

If you create another Virtual Service using the same template, ensure to
change the Service Name to a unique name.
