Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection in the lungs caused by microbes such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Microbes invade the lung tissue and cause inflammation and fluid buildup in the air sacs (alveoli), making it difficult to breathe. Common symptoms include difficulty breathing, chest pain, and cough with phlegm or blood. Pneumonia is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical exam findings like abnormal breath sounds, and chest imaging. Treatment involves antibiotics, cough suppressants, and pain medications depending on the severity of the condition.
