RIZAL

Lesson 1:
 The life, works and writings of Dr. Jose Rizal had served as an inspiration not only to
Filipinos but also to all freedom loving peoples.
 He Epitomized Then Ideal Renaissance Man. Truly, Rizal the pride of the Malay of
race and the greatest hero of a nation.
 Rizal’s Birth. Jose born June 19, 1861 eleven and twelve o’clock at Calamba Laguna

 He Baptized at Catholic Church of Calamba on June 22


 Rev. Rufino Collantes, close friend of his family and his godfather
 Calamba: “The Cardle of a Genius”. Picturesque town give birth to our hero
 Franciso Mercado Rizal (1818-1898)- was born in Binan, Laguna. His great
grandfather was a Christian Chinese, Domingo Lamco.
 He studied Latin and Philosophy at the College of San Jose Manila.
 Dr. Rizal called him “A model of fathers”. He Died January 5, 1898.
 Dona Teodora Alonzo, (1826-1911), Rizal’s mother born in Manila on November 8,
1826
 Teodora Alonzo.” Woman of remarkable talent in mathematics, business and
literature”.
 Alonzo Died August 16, 1911 at the age of Eighty.
 The children of Rizal. The marriage of Francisco Mercado Rizal and Teodora Alonzo
Realonda
 Paciano (1851-1930), the hero’s only brother Agriculturist.
 Paciano joined General Aguinaldo’s revolutionary army. He died 1930.
 Rizal’s sisters, Saturnina (1850-1913), Narcisa (1852-1939), Narcisa (1852-1939), Lucia
(1857-1919), Maria (1859-1945), Concepcion (1862-1865), Josefa (1865-1919), Trinidad
(1868-1951), Soledad (1870-1929). All of them got married except Josefa and
Trinidad,
 The original surname of the Rizal family was “Mercado”.
 Governor General narciso claveria, 1849, Governor Claveria issued a decree directing
all Filipino families to choose and adopt new surname from a list of Spanish family
names.

LESSON 2:
 At the Age of three, Rizal learned the Alphabet from his mother.
 Rizal Write “ Wrote the young Hero”.
 Age of nine Don Francisco sent his son to Binan to continue his studies of Latin under
Maestro Joaquin Aguino Cruz.
 Rizal left Binan on December 7, 1871, after staying there for one and a half years.
 Rizal he learned painting in the shop of an old painter named Juancho.
 Best Pupil in School in Binan, Rizal.
 Dona Teodora was arrested on a malicious charge that she allegedly aided her brother.
 GOM-BUR-ZA’s Martyrdom The execution of fathers Gomez, Burgos, and Zamora
was one of the reasons why Paciano quit college education.
 Rizal Wrote “Sa Aking Mga Kabata” (To fellow my Children)

LESSON 3:
 Jose, accompanied by his brother went to Manila on June 10, 1872 to Take the entrance
examinations and enrolled in the Ateneo Municipal
 School year 1871-1872, opened in June Rizal like any other neophytes in a new school
environment.
 Rizal related how he became “Emperor” at the Ateneo
 “My First Inspiration.” This poem was written by Rizal in Ateneo as a expression of good
wishes.
 Rizal’s Poem on Education Rizal wrote this poem when he was only fifteen years old.
 Rizal developed an insatiable appetite in reading books fiction and non-fiction
 “To the Filipino Youth” was written by Rizal when he was eighteen years old at
University of Santo at Tomas.
 Artistic skills in Sculpture, Sculpture is the art of curving, molding, welding or
producing works of arts in three dimensions.
 Rizal like other teen-agers also experienced the “pleasure and pain of first love.”

LESSON 4:
 In Sunny Spain, 1882-1885
 Secret departure for Spain, Rizal’s departure for Spain was kept secret in order to avoid
detection.
 Rizal used a passport obtained by a cousin named “Jose Mercado.”

 June 11, 1882 Rizal reached Naples (Italy)
 June 12, 1882 Streamer docked at the French harbor of Marseille Stayed 2 and half
days.
 “Amor Patrio.” Rizal wrote a nationalistic essay entitled Amor Patrio (Love of
Country).
 August 20, 1882. It was published in two texts Spanish and Tagalog.

 Rizal Second Article for Diariong Taglog entitiled Los Viajes (Travels)
 Third Article Revista de (Madrid Review of Madrid) he wrote in Madrid on November
29, 1882.
 (May 26, 1882), Paciano advised his younger brother to finish the medical course in
Madrid.
 November 3, 1882 Rizal Enrolled in Universidad de Madrid (Central University of
Madrid) two courses Medicine and Philosophy and Letters.
 Rizal became a Master Mason in Lodge Solidaridad on November 15, 1890. Later, on
February 15, 1892, he became a Master Mason of Le Grand Orient France in Paris.
 Rizal salute to Luna and Hidalgo. At the National Exposition of Fine Arts in Madrid in
1884,
 Luna’s Canvas “Spolarium” won first prize (gold medal).
 Hidalgo’s “Christian Virgins Exposed to the Populace” was awarded second prize (silver
medal)
