At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
1. Memorize and internalize the VMGO of CPC and the Department, class policies and grading
system;
2. Define school property and school property/plant management;
3. Discuss the importance of school property/plant planning and management;
4. Define school facilities;
5. Explain the importance of school facilities management; and
6. Identify the benefits we gain in maintaining facilities.
Introduction:
School property/plant management ensures that school buildings and grounds, equipment,
materials, technical and other service systems, facilitate and support the provision of education by a
school.

2.What is the meaning of school property?


Means in or within any building, structure, athletic playing field, playground , parking lot or land
contained within the real property boundary line of a public elementary or secondary school, or in on a
school bus.
What is school property/plant management?
Schools and educational establishments have a responsibility to ensure their properties are
managed safely and efficiently.
School property/plant management entails the making and carrying out a series of decisions by
individuals and groups in building school a plant according to need, operating and using it effectively and
efficiently and ensuring that it is in a functional state as the educational program is being implemented.
School property/plant management involves a number of ongoing and related activities—
determining the need for school plants, educational program planning, school facility or building design,
building construction, furnishing and equipping the school, school plant operation, utilization and
maintenance and school plant modernization or renovation if and when need arises
The responsibility for managing the school plant rests with the head teacher or the school
principal. The school head may not be knowledgeable in some aspects of school plant management such
as school facility design and building construction but his/her inputs, and, in some cases, the inputs of
other school staff during decision making in these areas may be necessary as it is the principal or head
teacher and the school staff that will make use of the buildings after their completion. It is his/her
responsibility to ensure that the school plant is regularly maintained. It is also part of his/her
management responsibilities to ensure that the school plant is open for use effectively and efficiently on
daily basis and that it is kept neat and tidy always.

In his/her attempts to achieve these and other ends for which the school plant has been built, the
head teacher or principal must make use of teachers, other school staff and students, detailing their
duties and roles and coordinating their efforts to ensure that the right things are done at the right time.
Effective school plant management ensures that school facilities are effectively used for teaching and
learning with no little or no interruption.
3. Importance of School Property Planning
Developing a 10 year property plans ensures your school is well maintained and the physical
environment supports teaching and learning, within the budget provided. The 10 year property plans
sets out the property work to be completed over a 10 year time frame. The aims of the plans are to:
Prioritize:
 Work that ensures the health and safety of building and site occupants.
 Essential infrastructure work that ensures the integrity and structure of the site and buildings.
Plan for:
 Modernizing learning spaces
 Maintenance work
 Potential changes in roll numbers
 Request additional capital funding, if needed, such as for new teaching spaces for roll growth.
4.Importance of school property management
School property helps improve students’ performance in achievement tests. School property
improves attendance and reduces dropout rate. School property improves students’ attitudes to
learning. It also increases teachers’ retention rate.
5.Why Should We Take Care of School Properties?
When a student lacks respect for school property, it can bring the quality of life in the school
down. For example, leaving litter around the school grounds can make the place seem uncomfortable
and cluttered. It also poses a safety threat. Other students can slip on the litter and injure themselves.
Care for School Property:
1. Don’t write on walls and furniture.
2. Do not cause any damage to furniture.
3. Use dustbin to throw waste material.
4. Keep your class neat and clean.
5. Any sort of breakage and damage done even by accident, should be reported at once to the
class teacher or to the Principal.
6. Students are not allowed to bring any sharp or lethal instruments to the school premises.
6. School Facilities
School facilities means only facilities necessary for instructional and related supporting purposes
including , but not limited to, classrooms, libraries, media centers, laboratories, cafeterias, physical
education spaces, related interior and exterior facilities, and the conduit, writing, and powering of
hardware. It also mean buildings and grounds, parking lots, playing fields and fixed equipment under the
control of the school division.
7.Importance of School Facility Management
Facilities management is important because it ensures a safe and comfortable work environment
for people. A good workplace makes people feel well, energized, productive and enthusiastic about their
work. It will make them want to come to work and perform well once they’re there.
School facilities improve the quality of the study environment in the school, thus improving the
quality of education.
8.The Benefits We Gain in Maintaining School Facilities
It enables a more cost-effective working process within the business. It improves the efficiency of
the business. It helps to manage health and safety requirements in accordance with industry
regulations. It increases lifespan of a business assets.
