Reflexive Verbs Full

Reflexive verbs are verbs where the subject and object are the same person. In Spanish, reflexive verbs are formed by adding "-se" to the infinitive and using a reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb. Examples of common reflexive verbs in Spanish include lavarse (to wash oneself), acostarse (to go to bed), and alegrarse (to become happy). Reflexive verbs are used to show that the subject performs the action of the verb on or for themselves.

REFLEXIVE VERBS

Reflexive means someone is doing something oneself.

A verb is reflexive when the subject and the object refer to the same person. The purpose of
the reflexive verb is to show that the action of the verb remains with the subject. This can
be seen in the following sentences.
Example
I wash myself.
Subject verb object
I wash myself

How do you know which one is reflexive verb

Basically when we are learning Spanish language and using online dictionary or pocket
dictionary we can see many verbs ending with - se and that is a hint that verb is reflexive.

Example

Bañarse (to take bathe oneself)

In Spanish reflexive verbs -se is added to the basic infinitive.

To use reflexive verb we need to know the reflexive pronoun.

The Reflexive pronoun
myself me (yo)

yourself te (tú)

himself, herself, yourself se (él/ella usted)

ourselves nos(nosotros)

yourselves os(vosotros)

themselves, yourselves Se(ellos/ellas/ustedes)

To conjugate reflexive verb, drop the -se and place the reflexive pronoun before the
conjugated verb. The reflexive verb always has a reflexive pronoun.
Example
Lavarse (to wash oneself)
Yo me lavo (I wash myself)
Tú te lavas (you wash yourself)
Él/ella/usted se lava. (he/she/you wash himself/herself/yourself)
Nosotros nos lavamos.(we wash ourselves)
Vosotros os lavais.(you wash yourselves)
Ellos/ellas/ustedes se lavan.(they/they/you wash youeselves)
NOTE

It is not necessary to use both the subject pronoun and the reflexive pronoun with

reflexive verbs, except in the third person for clarity. From now on, the subject pronoun

yo, tú, nosotros, vosotros Will be omitted. Practice reflexive verbs aloud with their

reflexive pronoun.

The reflexive pronoun can be placed in either of two positions in a sentence
