This document discusses various theories of crime causation that are examined on a criminology exam. It summarizes five theories: 1) victim precipitation theory in the case of a woman killing her abusive husband, 2) evolutionary theory in the case of a child learning aggressive behaviors from their father, 3) differential association-reinforcement theory created by Prime Minister Rhea R. Arcohor, 4) psychological theories that examine individual factors like childhood experiences, and 5) William Graham Sumner's four types of social norms (folkways, mores, taboos, and laws) that govern society.

THEORIES OF CRIME CAUSATION

MEDTERM EXAMINATION

BONGHANOY, REYMART DAFFON

BS-CRIMINOLOGY, SECTION – H

ANSWER:
1. What theory is present in this case/ instance where amor killed her abusive
husband, ador?
The case of amor de noche is under the victim pricipation theory. Amor who
is a victim of physical abuse turned out to be the offender of her husband,
who also became the victim of murder. In this case the victim pricipation
theory can analyzed this way. The victim is actually the aggressor. He was
committing physical abuse every time he was drunk. The behavior of the
victim encourage or provoke the offender to commit the crime.
Victim precipitation theory it viewed that some people may actually initiate
the confrontation that eventually leads to their injury or death. Because
victim precipitation is a criminology theory that analyzes how a victim’s
interaction with an offender may contribute to the crime being committed….
Under this theory, the victim is viewed as an active participate in the crime,
he is the one who acts first and encourages or provokes the offender to
commit the crime. Active precipitation occurs when manner, uses abusive
words or threats, or even attacks first.

2. What theory is present in this case of prototaloy?

This theory of prototaloy is under of evolutionary theory. Prototaloy enhance
the behavior of her father and found out that, it is good to do something that
can hurt someone you love prototaloy witnesses that its okay to do
something even though it is a bad things. So prototaloy adapt the behavior of
what they saw and seen to his father.
In this case this theory is represent to evolutionary theory this kind of theory
is explains the existence of aggression and violent behavior as positive
adaptive behavior in human evolution. It say that once the member of the
family demonstrate the bad behavior from their home, it has a tendency that
your son or your part of the family adopt the behavior of what they saw and
can use this through their family in the future.

3. What theory present in the created by prime minister Rhea R. Arcohor the
theory present is (DIFFERENTIAL ASSOCIATION RE-INFORCEMENT)
this theory suggests most meaningful rewards and punishment are those
given by groups that are important in an individual’s life. The differential-
association reinforcement have a purpose to change the bad to good. It
because differential association is a crime predictive theory... the theory
holds that, are learned, and that, this learning activity is accomplished, in
interactions with others, and the situational definition we place on the
values. Through differential reinforcement, they learn how to reap rewards
and avoid punishment in reference to the actual or anticipated consequences
of given behavior.

4. Discuss the psychological theories of crime causation?

Psychological so psychological is relating to the mind and relating to the

study of the mind or relating to psychology. Criminal behavior may be
purposeful for the individual insofar as it addresses certain felt needs.
Defective or abnormal, mental process may have a variety of cause, i.e..,
diseased mind, inappropriate learning or improper conditioning, the
emulation of inappropriate role models, and adjustment to inner conflict.
Psychological theory is crime a major emphasis in criminology the study of
crime and criminals is why people commit crimes psychological theories of
crime look at individual factors, such as inadequate socialization and
negative early childhood experiences, that can result in criminal thinking
patterns. The psychologically- based criminologist explain criminal behavior
as the consequences of individual factors, such as negative early childhood
experiences, and inadequate socialization, which results in criminal thinking
patterns and/or incomplete cognitive development.
5. William Graham Sumner introduced the 4 types of norms that govern our
lives by guiding us in our beliefs and behavior, determining what to express,
and how to interact with people in the society.
The first type of social norm that Sumner introduced are folkways.
Folkways are norms that originate from our daily interactions. They are not
quite noticeable, but they are quite useful. They do not have moral
significance and rarely no punishment for not doing them. Example of
folkways in this pandemic is patiently standing at the end of the long que of
people falling in line and observing social distancing outside the grocery
store. Inserting yourself near the entrance of the grocery store will not make
you immoral. However, people will judge you for you impoliteness and rude
behavior.
The second type of social norm are mores. Mores lie in determining what is
right or wrong. They have greater coersive force in shaping our
values ,beliefs, behavior and relationship with people. Violating these social
norm will make you immoral and negate the sense of belongingness.
Example of mores is religious prohibition like living in together before
marriage. Having a sexual relationship before marriage will make you
immoral in the eyes of your family, neighbor and even in the religious
community. People will punish your behavior and might reject you from
being a member of the family.
The third type of social norm are taboos. Taboos are strong negative norms
that violating these will make you being unwanted and lead to expulsion
from the society. Taboos are stricter than mores.
Example of taboo is having a sexual relationship with a first degree cousin.
Engaging in this kind of relationship is not acceptable especially in a most
conservative society.
The fourth social norm are laws. A law is a norm that is passed by the state
and enforced by its governing bodies to put an order to the society and to
protect everyone from harm and violence. Violations in the law will lead to
fines or imprisonment or even death.
Examples of existing laws are rape, illegal drug trade, robbery,
murder ,corruption and the like. In other countries like Indonesia, illegal
drug trade is punishable by death.
