This study aims to measure the speed and accuracy of Grade 2 students in multiplication and test the effectiveness of using flashcards for 10 minutes per day. It will compare students' average speed and scores on multiplication problems before and after the intervention. The study will be conducted at Matain Elementary School and use pre- and post-testing with a window card to assess students' multiplication skills.

Working Title:

Ten Flashcards a Day: Strategy to Improve the Speed and Accuracy of Grade
2 Pupils

Proponent/s:

GENESIS BRYAN F. VICENTE

Rationale:

This study aims to measure the speed and accuracy level of Grade 2 pupils in
multiplication of Matain Elementary School. Furthermore, to conduct an intervention
activity that the researcher believes that may increase their performances in dealing
with multiplication. Also, to test whether the intervention program is effective or not.
Brief Literature Review:
Multiplication is the main tool for many forms of maths such as algebra, calculus,
equations and more. The ability to rehearse and understand multiplications up to and
including 12 by the final year of primary school will enable your child to confidently and
skillfully tackle more complex mathematical subjects (Winfield, J. (2022). Furthermore,
according to Lin and Kubina, (2005) fluency requires students to be both fast and
accurate when solving basic math facts. Automaticity is a piece of fluency. Fluency is
the end goal and considered true mastery of the concept when reached. Now connect
these two terms to mathematics and we develop the idea that students will develop
automaticity first, then fluency, and by doing this, they will develop a pattern of
sustained success in their mathematics career (Cumming & Elkins, 1999; Lin & Kubina,
2005; Stickney et al., 2012; Woodward, 2006).

Research Questions/Objectives:
This study will determine the effectiveness of application of the program “Ten
Flashcards a Day” in Grade 2 Pupils of Matain Elementary School. Specifically, this
study will seek answer to the following question:
1. What is the average speed of the Grade 2 pupils of Matain Elementary School in
accomplishing M-1 window card before the application of the intervention
program;
2. What is the average score of the Grade 2 pupils of Matain Elementary School in
accomplishing M-1 window card before the application of the intervention
program;
3. What is the average speed of the Grade 2 pupils of Matain Elementary School in
accomplishing M-1 window card after the application of the intervention
program;
4. What is the average score of the Grade 2pupils of Matain Elementary School in
accomplishing M-1 window card after the application of the intervention
program;
5. Is there a significant difference between the average speed of Grade 2 pupils
before and after the administration of the program in accomplishing M-1
Window Card?
6. Is there a significant difference between the average score of Grade 2 pupils
before and after the administration of the program in accomplishing M-1
Window Card?

Methodology:
(Discuss the research design you will use, method of research, sampling technique if
any, respondents and locale of the study, intervention to be used, instruments to be
utilized, statistical treatment to be used for presentation and analysis of data, and
ethical considerations of the study)
