Firstly, I would like to thank God for giving me the strength, patience and

resources I needed to complete this school based assignment {SBA}. Also would

like to thank my teacher and group members for helping me to meet the necessary

expectations of SBA. Finally I would like to thank my family and friends for the

extra support and assistants they gave me.

Plan of Investigation
The topic ''Dancehall Music'' has been given to my group for our English School

Based Assessment{S.B.A} however, I will be focusing on the subtopic

“The Positive Effects of Dancehall in Jamaica ''. The researcher has chosen this

topic due to the positive impact Dancehall music has on societies in Jamaica and

that has not been shown more often than it should’ve. Dancehall is a form of art

that has touched most individuals in Jamaica positively.The researcher expects to

develop reading and writing comprehension and understanding of the techniques

and language skill,also to improve as well as widen the researcher’s knowledge on

dancehall misic.To accomplish this, the researcher browses the internet for artifacts

to support this topic.

Reflection One
The first artifact is a Youtube documentary”God Help You My Son” by (Nathan

Miller,2020).This documentary is about the artists of Dancehall.These artists speak

about how Danchall has changed their lives positively and helped them to help

others.

A similar theme was evident in an article from a website called “‘The Black

Listener”.“Promote the Positive of Dancehall Music” by (Shez,2020) gives

numerous example of how this genre has helped numerous persons over its history

In closing is a poem written by (Christina Allen,2021) title “Poem on The Effects

of Dancehall Music on Youth”.This poem illustrates how Danchall had helped

motivate young adult to work harder

Reflection Two
In the short clip, “God Help You My Son” the language used of ellipses which

created suspense in the video. This made the video intriguing which made the

researcher anxious to know what actually happens in the music industry. This short

clip has an informal and motivational tone, which has a casual formality.The genre

for this clip was Drama.

The article “Promote the Positive the Positive” the use of language was formal, the

narrator conveys their point very clearly which makes the register used as neutral,

the tone used in this article is serious. Furthermore, the genre of this article was

persuasive.

In the poem, “The effects dancehall music has on the youths” the language used

was formal There was a rhetorical question asked “If the artist sings jump, the

crowd shouts “how high?” which made me rethink my choices or if I should be

listening to this type of music. Hyperbole language was used in the poem which

made it more impactful. The genre of this poem was poetry.

Reflection 3
The process of this research has made me become a better person because I learnt

to work with my peers with this completion of my SBA. I have gained more

insights about Dancehall Music. The sub-topic I chose to investigate was The

Positive Effect of Dancehall Music in Jamaica. Throughout the execution of this

SBA the researcher was able to increase my knowledge of the topic "Dancehall

Music"The artifacts that best suited the sub-topic and it was easier than

expected.The researcher was able to narrow down my investigation with three

artifacts that were deemed worthy for the completion of my research. This SBA

helps me to improve my vocabulary, strengthen my research skills, reasoning

ability and comprehension skills.
