Course Code and Title: EDUC 217 – MODERN TRENDS AND ISSUES
The topic was discussed by Ms. Shari Allana M. Ponce, executive consultant of Early
Childhood Education and Especial Education. Culture can be defined as all ways of life
including arts, beliefs and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to
generation. The culture involves values, greater community, knowledge and stories, languages,
traditions and rituals, techniques and skills, tools and objects, arts and food and drink. Culture is
learned and is constantly changing.
We educators are the molder of our learners. We made changes to society through them.
For us to fully deliver the learnings, it if for us to make sure that the learning environment is a
safe place for everyone. We adhere to the perception of “Education is for all” therefore education
is for everyone no mater his or her race, cultural background, socio-economic status, ethnicity,
disability, sexual orientation, religion and beliefs.
I learned that we should not just tolerate but also accept and respect the differences of the
learners. We are the provider of opportunities to all the learners. Give them the opportunity to
feel that they belong in a group. Let them realize and embrace that being unique is normal and
valid.
Inclusivity is our main goal in realizing the multicultural education. And we are the
instrument in implementing the inclusivity. And it all start in classroom that we manage.
