Summary of SG Series features:

This new family of UPS's, although in many ways similar to the currently manufactured SitePro
have some new concepts, in particular the access to all components, for maintenance and
repair, from the front of the UPS.

Below a summary of some of the more important differences valid for the total range 10 -
500kvA:

Output power range with date of February 2003: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 80, 100, 120, 150, 225,
300, 400 and 500kVA
Same cabinet size and architecture have: 10, 20, 30 and 40kVA, 50 and 80kVA, 100, 120
and 150kVA, 225 and 300kVA, 400 and 500kVA.
All cabinets have the same height and depth, but differ in width.
All components with the exception of power inductors and transformer are accessible from
the front for maintenance and repair. This allows placing of the UPS against a wall.
Rectifier input circuit breaker Q4 was replaced with a contactor K4.
The static switch has an additional contactor K8, which wraps around K6 and the SSM. The
SSM is therefore used only for the fast switching and is then short-circuited by K8. For this
reason it's not mounted anymore on a heat sink.
3 LEM's are placed in the Bypass connection. No LEM's at the Inverter output like on the A
version. Inverter current is measured with the LEM's of the load measurement. See UPS
Blockdiagram.
All UPS's are equipped with a Battery contactor K3, with the exception of the 400 and
500kVA units, which have fixed Battery fuses.
The function of the ventilators is controlled and an alarm given in case of failure. No control
of the ventilator speed.
The Load OFF button on the panel has changed to a Total OFF, since not only the output
contactors are opened, but Rectifier and Inverter shutdown, also K3 and K4 are opened.
DC floating voltage 540V for 240 Battery cells. (No other values!)
Utility input: 277V Phase / Neutral, 480V Phase / Phase.
Inverter output voltage: 277V Phase - Neutral, 480V Phase / Phase.
LEM replaced the current transformers for the load current measurement.
Space is provided for the integration of a 5th harmonic filter.
The 400/500kVA units have additional space for an optional 11th harmonic filter.
Units 225 - 500kVA can be equipped with an optional 3-wire kit, which allows to run the
UPS without Neutral (3-wires) at the input.
This however allows only to supply loads connected phase-phase.

See also the page "Variation" for a summary of various components, like
PC Boards and assemblies.  Many of them different, depending from output power.

IS -Max

The output currents of the Inverter bridge and thus the current in the primary windings of the
transformer, we call series current .

To protect the IGBT's of the Inverter bridge, the bridge currents on two phases (L1 and L2) of
the output of the bridge are measured with 2 LEMs on phase L1 and phase L2.

The maximum allowable series current, which is power depending, we call IS - Max.
The level of IS - Max must be hardware installed with  resistor
R 302 on the Main control board IM 0007.

A lower resistor value increases the IS-Max threshold value, a higher resistor value increases
the sensibility i.e results in  a lower IS-Max level.
Resistor values vary, depending on the type of A/D Converter and UPS output power.
For description and values see the table in IM 0007_1 Layout.

Two Parameters (136, 137) define the strategy when a IS-MAX condition is detected, and this,
independent from whether mains bypass voltage is available or not, while a third Parameter 76
defines the automatic start of the Inverter.

Layout IM 0051 C

This board replaces the version B and is mandatory for the UPSs SG-CE Series 1, but fully compatible also
for the SG-UL Units. Introduction 22.01.2007 with ECN 983.

After some cases of fan failure alarms (4522) without actual fan failure, a new version of firmware, dated
04.12.2007 was introduced, with IC2 version 5.3 on the board IM 0051C. (ECN 1099)
Remember, this Alarm has no effect on the UPS function, but should alert customer or service of a
possible problem or damage of one or more ventilators.

One board can control up to 10 Ventilators of varies types. In case of more Ventilators per UPS, 2 boards
can be connected in series, as this is the case for the 250 and 300kVA units.

The control is based on the measurement of the current drawn from each Ventilator.

Power supply for this board and the Ventilators is taken from the UPS output (IM 0046)

Attention: Only version C of this board can be used on the SG-CE-Series !!

Corresponding to ECN 983.

supply.
J6 Connects to J6 of IM 0075 (Power Interface) A jumper must connect pin 4 and 5 on J7 !!
Connects to J6 of 2nd IM 0051 (cascading) in case of more then 10 Ventilators, while
J7
J6 connects to the Power Interface IM 0075

Procedure for the setup and programming of this board:

Insert a  Jumper on J8, pin 4+5, without board supply.

Connect, in Service mode, Bypass or Inverter to the UPS output, in order to have board supply.
Led 1 (green) must be lit.

After 15 seconds LED 2 (red) flashes twice, indicating the acquisition.

After another 10 seconds LED 2 flashes for the number of Ventilators found.

LED 2 will flash now every 10 seconds indicating thus a new acquisition.

Disconnect UPS output voltage (Bypass or Inverter) and thus board supply.

Remove Jumper on J8 pin 4+5, in order to avoid that after every shutdown a new acquisition will
start, since the values of the previous acquisition are stored in the Flash Eprom.
In case the IM 0051C detects a bad Ventilator, Alarm 4522 (Fan failure) will be issued. This Alarm has no
influence on the function of the UPS, but is only a notification. Also, the involved Ventilator(s) cannot be
identified from this Alarm.

The 400 and 500kVA units are available with optional input filters for the 5th and 11th harmonics.
5th Harmonic filter with Choke L50, Contactor K50 and Capacitors C50.
11th Harmonic filter with Choke L110, Contactor K110 and Capacitors C110.

Another option is the so called 3 wire kit, which allows input voltages (3 phases) without Neutral
connection. In this case however, also the load has to be Phase - Phase.
The  3 wire kit consist basically of the Choke L4, Capacitors C40 and Fuses 37 - 39.

Since 400 and 500kVA units have no K3 but fuses F8, F9 instead, an optional external K3 is available.
This however requires additional components and wiring, as shown in the schematic below.

Some units, with different order number, are equipped with Bypass fuses F5, F6, F7.
Attention: This fuses are not monitored !!!

Modifications

ECN Date Description

After some cases of fan failure alarms (4522) without actual fan failure,
a new version of firmware, dated 04.12.2007 was introduced, with IC2
version 5.3 on the board IM 0051C. (ECN 1099)
1099 04.12.2007
Remember, this Alarm has no effect on the UPS function, but should
alert customer or service of a possible problem or damage of one or
more ventilators.
Firmware update for the the Ventilator control board IM0051C.
IC 2 on this board is now of version 5.4.
The small Ventilators used on the front panel of the SG UL 160 - 300kVA
1190 11.06.2008 caused in certain cases the Alarm Fan failure (4522).

Replacement of older versions is recommended in case of repeatet Fan

failure Alarm, 4522 on the Units of the above mentioned output power.
Fuses F30 and F41 for the Ventilator supply of modules 225-500kVA
1227 05.12.2008
with increased value. Now 4.0A (SAP Nr. 1007501) instead of 3.5A.
New Software version 3.18 for U2 and U3.

Changes:

New Overload definitions.

New Parameter 395. In this Parameter the opening time of K6, K7
and K8 before reading their status, can be programmed,
respectively calibrated.
1289 09.03.2009
Corrections:

With Load on Inverter, the information K8 opening failure, which forces

the opening of K6, is generated only if a current flow in the Bypass is
measured. In this case, which is probably due to a erroneous
signalisation of the K8 auxiliary contact, only an Alarm is issued, but no
transfer of the Load to Bypass.
For the implementation of the DC Power supply control, some Hardware
and Software adaptations are necessary.

Software: U2 & U3 version 3.30 or higher. U36 version 10.0 or

higher.
See the page "Firmware upgrade" for upgrade procedures.
Hardware: A modification kit consisting of 1 cable SAP#1021871
and a PCB IM0207 SAP#1021870. The cable replaces the one
1334 24.07.2009
connecting J1 from IM0007 to Power supply IM0061/J8. PCB
IM0207 plugs onto J27 of control board IM0007 and X1 from the
cable.
To enable the function "DC Powe supply failure", Parameter 366
must be set to 00002.
In case of failure, Rectifier and Inverter are shutdown, K3 opened
and Alarm 4701, Power supply board failure issued.

Introduction of Firmware versions 3.30 for U2 & U3 and 10.0 for U36 of
1348 01.12.2009 the control board IM 0007. See the pages Upgrade instructions,
Firmware description and PMAD.
Problems with high temperature on the Resistors on the PC Board
IM0046. A short term solution will be, to solder the Resistors on the
solder side of the PCB and fix it then with 4 25mm spacers. A redesign
1419 19.02.2010 of the Board Layout will solve the problem.

Flash Service news 01 2010 describes the necessary procedures and

intervention level.

Events

Events are the Alarms plus the Messages stored in the events memory, which can be visualized on the
display on the UPS by pressing the key "alarms", or clicking in  Daisy onto "Events" . Totally 256 events
can be stored.

Alarms indicate a dangerous operational situation or a failure in the UPS, and are, apart from their
storage in the events memory, indicated by a yellow LED on the control panel and the sound of the
Buzzer, which can be silenced with a reset button. Examples: High DC - Voltage, Fuse failure, IS - Max.

Messages store information which in particular concern the function and operation of the UPS. Examples:
Rectifier ON, Load on Mains, Q1 closed.

Events are stored with date and time of the occurrence, in order to facilitate troubleshooting.

Go to the page Alarms or to the page Messages for a listing and a brief explanation of their signification.

In Parameters 77, 78, 79 it is possible to transform an alarm into a message, see the page "Alarm
suppression" for details.

In Parameter 411 some special configuration settings are possible, e.g. the shutdown of only the Module
in a Parallel system where the Load OFF (Total OFF) button was pressed.

Commissioning

Before starting a unit some basic rules should be respected, in order to avoid injury or damage.

After placing the UPS(s) at it's final destination and having it unpacked, remove the side- and
protection panels.

With access to all parts, a thorough mechanical inspection should ensure the unit(s) has no damage
or loose bolts, screws, nuts or cables.

Remove transit bracket. Insure that the transit bracket and bolts on the transformer has been
removed. These bracket and bolts are painted in bright yellow.

Connect then all Input / Output cables according to the instructions in the Installation manual.

Inspect fans, insure that the fans spin freely.

Check all fuses ohmically.

Note: If any problems with this installation are found that pose a threat to persons or equipment, do not
proceed until the problem has been corrected

Make sure breakers Q1 and Q2 are open. Then connect Mains voltage to the UPS (both if separate,
for Rectifier and Bypass)

Warning: Main Input Feed CB is closed and thus supplying LETHAL voltages to the system.

Caution: It is recommended that the load supplied by the UPS remains OFF until commissioning has been
completed.

Power supply starts and the display shows a self test, at the end of which, should result "Self test
ok" and the display changes to the Main page.
Press "Lamp test" on the panel. All LED's on the panel must blink and buzzer sounds.
Press keys "measuring", "alarms" and "parameters" to verify the function of the display.

Verify in Parameters for correct Date and Time. If incorrect adjust in User Parameters.

Verify in the Service Alarms for the presence of the code 9D04, which indicates the correct function
of important parts of the control board IM 0007. In case you find codes 9D00, 9D01,  instead, a
malfunction on the control board is present. Change the control board !! The presence of code 9D02
could indicate  a wrong setting of Parameter 292. (00020 instead of 00040), depending on wether
the fast AD-Converters are of 12 or 14-bit type. See more details of possible 9Dxx Error codes,
caused possibly from defective measurement components on the Power Interface or LEMs. See listing
of 9Dxx codes.

Verify LED's on Main control board IM 0007: D19 (supply voltage ok) and D27 (Master unit) must be
ON, D28 OFF, while D29, 30, 32 must be blinking.

Verify on Power interface IM 0049: B1 lit (correct phase rotation), LED's 1,2,3,4,5,6 OFF (Contactors
indication) and LED's 7,8,9,10,11 ON (Power supply LEM ok)

Measure and record all Power supply voltages on test points of Power supply board IM 0061. All
green LED's ON, red LED for AC supply ON (Exception for 400 and 500kVA, red Led always OFF) and
yellow LED for DC supply must be OFF.

Verify red LED's on LEM protectors for load current measurement, which connect directly to main
control board IM 0007. Must be ON.

Verify on Inverter drivers IM 0054 of phase L1 and phase L2:  LED1 must be ON
(LEM for IS control)

Verify for correct values of following Parameters related to the Battery and the number of Battery
cells:

Parameter Function
84  Battery charge current limitation.
85 Battery capacity in A/h
Floating voltage. Normally 545 Volt for 240
88
Battery cells.
89 Number of Battery cells. (Normally 240)
103 Battery Backup (Autonomy) time

Verify during commissioning for correct voltages and currents in the measurements of the display of
the UPS. In case these should be different to what is measured with your precise instrument,
calibration is necessary. Refer to the page Calibration for procedure descriptions.

Verify correct Power wiring. In a parallel system the outputs of all units must be connected.
(Customers load not yet connected)
Close Q2 on 1st Unit.
Measure on 1st Unit with Voltmeter Phase L1 Utility - Phase L1 Load connection, followed by the
phases L2 and L3. Measure the same on all other units in case of a parallel system. Should you
measure voltage, you may have a miss wired output.
Open Q2.

Proceed now to startup the single UPS(s), following the description in the chapter "Low voltage
startup".

Run the UPS now in service mode, i.e. with Q1 open, and verify for the correct function of each
module. (Rectifier, Inverter, Bypass)

Once all unit's have been checked as single, you can proceed, in case of a parallel system, with the
paralleling. Go to page "Parallel startup".

To shutdown simply press the "Total OFF" button. Start then the Inverter for discharge of DC - Link
Capacitors. Stop Inverter when the DC voltage has reached ca. 20 Volt.

N.B. K3 will open when the Battery voltage reaches 388 Volt (1.62 Volt/cell), while Power supply shuts
down at 250 Volt.

Software

Like the Sitepro also the SG Series are using the same control board IM 0007. On this board
we find the firmware for the UPS control, flash Eprom's U2 and U3 and the flash Eprom U36 for
the DSP control.
It's these 3 Eproms, due to their complex function, which are more frequently subject to
updates.
Below a chronological listing with description of changes and version.

The first UPS's have left Riazzino with following versions of Software:

Firmware on control board IM 0007 Version

Flash micro U2, U3 3.05

Signature on the LCD was changed in SG Series
The input frequency is checked within a window of 20Hz from the value set in Parameter 144,
Input frequency.
Alarm K3 opening / closing failure is generated always when present.
In case of over temperature the Inverter is shut down, also with Q1 open,

Corrections:

With Parameter 76 (3 x IS Max in this window will block automatic Inverter start) different from
zero, an Alarm will always be generated, in case if IS Max.
K50 for the 5th harmonic filter can only close at the end of Inverter soft start.
It was not possible to modify the UPS name through the protocol.
In case of the opening of a Klixon for the Inverter bridge temperature control, the Inverter was
shut down immediately, without performing stop operation

New Parameters:

Value of Parameter 150 Diesel, can be 0 - 65535. See description above

U2 and U3 Version 3.05, Date 29.09.2003

Handling of output power 400 and 500kVA, including default settings.

The auxiliary contacts of the internal Battery fuses (only 400 and 500kVA), connect to the power
interface IM 0075 / J3. (10-300kVA aux. contact K3)
In case of Utility failure of the Master, the change of Master will be after 5 seconds. (previous 20
seconds).
The overload time with 150% was reduced from 30 to 10 seconds for 400 and 500kVA units.
The function "Battery fuses" on the Input relays of the customer interface needs
to be normally closed for the UPS's 10-300kVA, while normally open for the UPS range 400 and
500kVA.
The Bypass error detector is no more used to block the synchronization of the Master with Utility.
(Less events synch. not synch.)
An Emergency OFF (EPO) caused the Alarm K8 closing failure.
Parameter 222 (Rectifier delay) can be set to 0. (Previously 1-65535)
The c
Cinese display did not allow the programming of the input channels with the function "Battery
fuses".
Attention: If one of the following Parameters, concerning the Rectifier, are modified, the electronic
must be shutdown or a reset PB2 on IM 0007 will be necessary. Parameters: 127, 216, 217, 218,

Calibration

Calibration means, to make a measurement displayed on the UPS Panel or Graphic Display (Voltages,
Currents) the same, as the value of the same Voltage or Current measured with a precise instrument.
(Minimum  resolution 10 times better than the display !!)

Calibration could be necessary after replacing the control board IM0007 or the Power Interface, and is
part of the commissioning procedure.

Calibration Parameters are listed in  "Parameters", from 160 to  213.

Do not calibrate, i.e. change calibration Parameters with Rectifier and Inverter running. Where possible,
measurements and calibration shall be done with the UPS in Service Mode (Q1 open). Exception: Load
current.
Measure Load current with Load supplied from Bypass. Calibrate, without Load, and verify after for
correct measured values.

Calibration procedure for all measurement values, with the exception of UDC-Voltage, Inverter output
Voltages and Phase Error calibration Inverter - Mains

Measure with an adequate instrument the voltage or current of interest. (Remember, that for some
calibrations you might need load, in particular for the current calibrations)

Read the value of the corresponding voltage or current on the display or with Daisy.

If they are different, adjust the corresponding parameter until you obtain the same value on the UPS
display and on your reference instrument.

Increased parameter value results in increased display value.

For calibration Parameters see the listing of Parameters, for factory installed values see the PIOR.

Calibration procedure for the Voltages UDC, and the 3 phases of the Inverter output Voltage are different
from the calibration of all other values. Below the description of how to proceed for this calibration.
UDC calibration (DC-Link Voltage)

Connect a voltmeter to the UDC voltage.

Read on the UPS display the UDC voltage, indicated as Ub.

If the reading is the same ( +/- 1V ) no adjustment is necessary.

If different, change the value of Parameter 168 until you obtain the same reading on the voltmeter
and the display.
(Increase value of Parameter to obtain lower Rectifier voltage.)

Check now for the correct floating voltage.

In case of battery temperature sensing, disconnect J3 on the power interface. (IM 0001, IM 8820, IM
8880)

Adjust then, if necessary, with parameter 88, for correct floating voltage.

Attention: In addition to the above calibration, the UDC calibration for the DSP measurement is
necessary. After having done the above calibration, read the value in Parameter 183. Should the
reading be  different to the measured value, change Parameter 182 to obtain the same reading.
(Example of Parameter 183: 4095, means 409,5 V)

Inverter voltage calibration (Individual for each phase)

Connect a voltmeter to the phase you want to calibrate and compare with the value displayed on the
UPS.

If different (more then +/- 1V), change the value of the corresponding parameter, until the Inverter
voltage is the same as the reading on the display.

Parameters are: Phase L1: 184, Phase L2: 186, Phase L3: 188.
(Increase value of parameter to obtain lower Inverter voltage.)

Repeat the same for the other two phases.

Adjust in Parameter 112 for the desired nominal Inverter output voltage for all 3 phases.

Phase shift calibration Inverter - Mains.

Measure with Q1 open and the Inverter running, with a voltmeter the voltage difference Inverter -

Low Voltage Startup

In many occasions it might be useful to test the function of Rectifier and Inverter with a voltage low
enough to avoid damage in case of malfunction, in particular to the power modules, before running the
UPS in nominal voltage. Find below a description of this procedure:

Important:
At the end of Low voltage startup, the UPS must be shutdown completely, including power supply, in
order to reset some Parameters to their original values.

Important: In case of problems, the UPS can be, at any time, completely shut down by pressing the "total
off" button !!!

Attention with version 3.05 of flash Eproms U2, U3:

After each change of Parameter 217, a complete shutdown of the electronic or a reset with PB2 is
necessary.

Initial status: The UPS is shutdown completely, Battery and Utility disconnected, Q1 and Q2 open.

Connect Utility to the UPS.

In case of separate inputs for Rectifier and Bypass, connect only Utility to the Rectifier.
Enter in service Parameters, (see Password) and change the values of the following 2 Parameters:
- Parameter 217:  21000 (17300 in case of 12 - pulse Rectifier !!!)
  (Reduces the Rectifier output voltage)
- Parameter 112:  00050 (Limits the Inverter output voltage to 50 Volts)
- In case of FW 3.34 Parameter 113: 5
Connect a Voltmeter to the DC - Link (UDC) and an Oscilloscope to one phase of the Inverter output
voltage. (Test points on IM 0049 / IM 0075)
Press simultaneously the keys "test" and "mute".
K4 closes and the Rectifier starts. The DC Voltage should now gradually increase to the value
installed with Parameter 217. See table below.
Press now the key "Inverter on". As the Inverter starts, the DC Voltage decreases while the Voltage
of the Inverter should look like a sine wave.
If everything looks ok, proceed and increase gradually the DC Voltage by reducing the value of
Parameter 217. (see table below)
Attention:  Before changing Parameter 217, shut down Rectifier and Inverter by pressing the "total
off" button.
Examples of the approximately resulting voltages are shown in the table below.
Should at any time of the procedure result a deformation of the Inverter output sine wave, do not
continue, but check first for correct drive pulses of Rectifier and Inverter. If necessary change the
Main control board IM 0007 / 0057 or one of the driver boards.
Set Parameter 112 for nominal Inverter output voltage. (277V) and Parameter 217 for the default
value of 04000. In case of FW 3.34 set parameter 113 to 40.

Important: At the end of the procedure you must either shut down the UPS completely, including power
supply, or make a reset with PB2 on the main control board IM 0007, with DC - Capacitors discharged !!!!!!

Layout IM 0051B

A new board IM 0051C was introduced for the SG-CE Series 1.
This board replaces the version B and is mandatory for the UPSs SG-CE Series 1, but fully
compatible also for the SG-UL Units. Introduction 22.01.2007 with ECN 983.

After some cases of fan failure alarms (4522) without actual fan failure, a new version of
firmware, dated 04.12.2007 was introduced, with IC2 version 5.3 on the board IM 0051C. (ECN
1099)
Remember, this Alarm has no effect on the UPS function, but should alert customer or service of
a possible problem or damage of one or more ventilators.

Ventilators are of the same type for all  UPS's in the power range 10 to 150 kVA (28 Watt) .

The ventilators of all SG Series UPS's are controlled for their function.
The current of each ventilator is measured and in case of an over current condition (mechanical wear out,
dirt or bad ball bearings) the alarm fan failure 4522 will be given.

When replacing this board an auto setup must be activated. Follow the steps below:

Attention: Be aware that high voltage (230V) connect to this board, in particular when doing the
procedure below, avoid to touch any possible live parts. Use isolated pliers to remove and insert Jumper
JP1 !!!

Connect Utility. After Self test close Q1 and verify if all the ventilators are running at full speed.

Remove Jumper JP1 on IM 0051. After a short while, LED1 should blink twice, thus indicating
activation of auto setup.

After a few seconds LED1 should blink as many times as ventilators are present.
This is the confirmation, that all ventilators have been recognized.

The LED then remains lighted. JP1 remains removed.

Should for whatever reason the count of ventilators result to be wrong, then a reset of the circuit is
necessary, by doing the following:

Press Total OFF

Insert JP1 on IM 0051

Move Jumper JP2 to pins 2-3

Reset Load OFF and remove then JP1 to start another auto setup. Verify if number of ventilators
corresponds to the number the LED is blinking.

Verify eventually the voltage on the secondary of TR3 (supply voltage for the ventilators), which should
be 230V +/- 10%.

The units of 225 - 500kVA have 2 boards IM 0051, with P18 mounted on top of P19. P19 supplies the
ventilators for the bridges, while P18 supplies the ventilators for the magnetics, as follows:  ( Rx: R49 on
IM 0051 must be 62k for this configuration)

225-300kVA Bridges Magnetics

Parameters

Alarms

Setup values lost
During startup of the electronics or after a reset (watchdog or manual) the soft verifies the RAM
status by checking the value in Parameter 319. Should this value not be "26028", the CPU will insert
default values in various Parameters.
4000
This situation is indicated, as Parameter 5 will be set to 1, and thus inhibit the start of Rectifier and
Inverter.
Parameter 5 must be set to 0 manually and the setting of the rest of the Parameters verified with
PIOR, prior to start Rectifier and Inverter.
Watchdog reset
The watchdog circuit ordered a reset of the CPU.
In case the UPS did supply the load while the crash happened, a hardware circuit will activate the
4002 SSM and order the closure of K6. (Valid only for single units !!!)
The load is thus supplied from Mains.
After 30 seconds the Inverter will start automatically and supply the load if the actual conditions will
allow this and the Inverter was previously started manually.

UPS Failure
The master unit has detected the absence of a unit on the communication bus without the correct
4004
shut down sequence took place, i.e. the opening of Q1 of this unit.
Verify communication bus cabling.

Rectifier fuses
Micro switch on one or more of the Rectifier input fuses, indicate a blown fuse(s) and will cause the
shutdown of the Rectifier. As soon as the alarm is eliminated the Rectifier will again start
4100
automatically.

N.B. Only on units 150 - 500kVA !!

K4 closing failure
4102 Auxiliary contact on K4 indicates an open contactor after a closure command.
(Contact open with K4 open)   Rectifier cannot start.

K4 opening failure
4103 Auxiliary contact on K4 indicates an closed contactor after a opening command.
(Contact open with K4 open)
Battery fuses (external)
(External Battery fuses) was programmed on one of the Input channels, of the three possible
Customer Interfaces IM 0005.
4104 The closure of this contact indicates either a failure of an external Battery fuse or failure of closure of
an external Battery contactor K3.
In case of paralleled Rectifiers on the same Battery, this causes the disabling of the Rectifiers current
share, however no other action.

Rectifier over temperature

The Klixon on the Rectifer bridge indicates a situation of over temperature.
4105 This alarm will not cause the shutdown of the Rectifier, but will inhibit to start it.

N.B. Only on units 150 - 500kVA !!

Rectifier input transformer over temperature

The built in Klixon in the Rectifier transformer indicates a situation of over temperature.
4106 This alarm will not cause the shutdown of the Rectifier, but will inhibit to start it.

N.B. Only on units 400 and 500kVA !!

Mains Rectifier out of tolerance

The Rectifier input voltage is not within the specified tolerances:

4110 At least one of the voltages measured phase - phase, is out of tolerance.
Mains Rectifier frequency out of tolerance.
Incorrect phase rotation of the Mains Rectifier

Low battery voltage (Stop operation)

Situation of Stop operation due to one of the following conditions:

Battery backup time is less then the time defined in Parameter 102, due to Mains Rectifier out of
tolerance. With no change i.e. Mains Rectifier voltage ok or a reduction of load, the Inverter will
shut down after timeout. The Inverter starts automatically, as soon as the backup time of the
battery has reached the time of Stop operation with the actual load.
The battery voltage results to be below the value set in Parameter 91.When the Battery voltage
4115
reaches the value in Parameter 90, the Inverter will shut down (Minimum voltage).
The Inverter restarts automatically as the battery voltage has reached the value in Parameter
92. (Nominal voltage)

The above mentioned conditions can be present at the same time. In this case Stop operation ends
only if backup time is superior then the time set in Parameter 102 and the Battery voltage is above
the value set in Parameter 92 (U-Nominal).
During Stop operation, the Inverter cannot be shutdown manually with the key OFF.
High Battery voltage
This Alarm can be from two independent sources. First source is the normal measurement of the DC
Voltage, second source is the UDC - Max detection circuit.

In the first case the Inverter is shut down if the situation persists to the following scheme:
(Remember that values indicated in the Parameters below are always displayed for 192 cells, to
obtain the actual value, calculate with the present number of cells.)

After 10 seconds if the voltage measured is within the values defined in Parameters 93 and 94.
4116
After 5 seconds if the voltage measured is within the values defined in Parameters 94 and 95.
Immediately if the voltage measured is superior the value defined in Parameter 95.Valid for any
type of Battery used !!

The Inverter will automatically start again, as soon as the voltage descends below the value of
Parameter 93.

In the second case the Rectifier is shut down, and will automatically start again as soon as the signal
from the UDC - Max detection has vanished. (Hardware circuit with hysteresis)

Battery earth fault

A leakage current Battery - Earth was detected.
The threshold of this detection can be adjusted with Parameter 83. (256 units = 5mA)
Detection is based on the measurement of an asymmetry between the positive / negative pole of the
4117
Battery and earth. Such a situation can occur also during Rectifier soft start, or when the Inverter
shuts down.
This Alarm is purely indicative, with no influence to the UPS function. Increase if necessary Parameter
83. (Max. 511)

Battery fault
During Battery test the DC - Voltage resulted to be below the value set in:

Parameter 22, test voltage for manual Battery test

4118 Parameter 19, test voltage for automatic Battery test
Parameter 91, lowest tolerated DC - Voltage, depending on the number of cells.

In any of the above cases, the test will be stopped immediately, and the Rectifier returns to floating
voltage.

Switch Rectifier on or shutdown UPS

Mains voltage is not available and the Inverter switched Off. The load is therefore no more supplied.
4130 n order do not discharge or  damage the Battery, the UPS should be shutdown completely.
Verify:
Events Rectifier / Bypass out of tolerance, Inverter OFF

Rectifier control failure

During soft start, the output voltage of the Rectifier did not reach 250 DC, although the drive pulses
4140 have reached  the value set in Parameter 221. The LED inside the Rectifier symbol on the panel
blinks.
For Alarm reset open Q4, which causes the Rectifier to shutdown.

Inverter fuses
Signal from the auxiliary contact(s) of the Inverter output fuses This causes the shutdown of the
4301 Inverter which cannot be restarted as long as this condition persists.
Verify:
Fuses, u-switch fuses and related cabling

Inverter cannot be switched ON

The Inverter cannot start due to one of the following conditions:
UPS over temperature (4955)
Low Battery voltage (4115 stop operation)
Inverter fuses (4301)
DC - Fuses (4308, only >60kVA)
4302 Overload (4570)
K7 opening failure (4305)
K3 closing failure (4420)
High Battery voltage (4116)
DC - Low (4700, UB - Min)
Emergency OFF (4563)
Bad RAM Batt. (4000)
Inverter cannot be switched OFF
Shutdown of the Inverter is not possible because transfer to Mains is not possible:
Mains Bypass out of tolerance (4410)
4303 Bypass locked (4535)
Inverter and Mains not synchronized (4581)
Stop operation (4115, 4570, 4955)
Condition of IS - Max during delay time specified in Parameter 136.

K7 closing failure
4304 After a closing command for K7 the auxiliary contact of K7 indicates the later is not closed.
(Auxiliary contact normally closed.)

K7 opening failure
The auxiliary contact of K7 indicates the closure of K7 without a closing command, consequently the
4305
Inverter cannot be started.
(Auxiliary contact normally closed.)
Inverter output transformer over temperature (150 - 500 kVA only)
The Klixon inside the transformer windings indicate a situation of over temperature.
With Mains available the load transfers immediately to Mains and the Inverter is shutdown.
4307
With Mains not available the load will be supplied for 3 Minutes from Inverter, then the Inverter is
shutdown, if the condition has not changed.
The Inverter starts automatically again as soon as the temperature reaches normal values.

Blown DC Fuse
4308 One or more of the DC fuses are blown and consequently the Inverter shutdown.
The Inverter can be restarted manually as soon as the alarm condition is removed.

Driver failure
Detection of a failure on one or more SKIIP modules of the Inverter. (Over current, over voltage or
4309 over temperature)
After removal of the failure condition(s), the Inverter can be started again manually.
(N.B. Only 400 tand 500kVA)

Inverter voltage out of tolerance

4312 One or more phases of the Inverter output are out of tolerance specified in Parameter 113.
The Inverter shuts down and has to manually restarted.
Detection of IS-Max
Continuous IS-Max conditions over a certain software controlled period have caused the shut down of
the Inverter.
4320 Parameters 136 and 137. The inverter will start automatically if this happens occasionally.
3 times shutdown within the time specified in Parameter 76 will inhibit a further automatic start and
the Inverter must be started manually.
With the signal IS - Max permanently present, the Inverter remains blocked and cannot start.
Inverter control failure
The synchronization signal (T2_R) of the slave UPS was detected to have a phase error superior to
the value set in Parameter 122. The Inverter is thus shutdown.
4340
The Inverter can be restarted, with persisting alarm ,however the LED inside the Inverter symbol
remains blinking, thus indicating that this Inverter cannot be used for load supply anymore and K7
remains open.

K6 closing failure
4404
The logic detects the  auxiliary contact of K6 indicating K6 to be open or closed with delay.

K6 opening failure
4405
The logic detects the  auxiliary contact of K6 indicating K6 to be closed or opened with delay.

SSM failure
Despite the blocking command for the SSM, a difference in the load currents at the input of K7 and
the input of Q1 was detected.
4406 A command to open K6 for 10 seconds is given, after which K6 is closed again. If after 3 times of
this, the currents are still different, then K6 remains open definitively.
Currently set to a value of 40000, which actually disables a detection. (17.05.02)
Parameter 297.

K8 closing failure
4408 Auxiliary contact on K8 indicates an open contactor after a closure command.
(Contact open with K8 open)

K8 opening failure
4409 Auxiliary contact on K8 indicates an closed contactor after a opening command.
(Contact open with K8 open)
Mains Bypass out of tolerance
Voltage Mains Bypass is signaled to be out of tolerance due to one of the following conditions:

At last one of the voltages measured phase - Neutral are out of the tolerance set in Parameters
4410
118, 119
Mains frequency out of tolerance
Incorrect phase rotation at the Mains Bypass input

K3 closing failure
4420 The logic detects that K3 after a closing command is not closed. (Aux. contact normally open)
With Q1 closed, the Inverter cannot be started.

K3 opening failure
4421
The logic detects that K3 after a opening command is not open. (Aux. contact normally open)

Inverter output power insufficient

4520 The actual load supplied from Mains exceeds 100% of the ups system and consequently the load will
not transfer to Inverter.

Bypass power insufficient

4521 The UPS cannot transfer the Load to Mains due to either Mains failure (4410), K6 open (4404) or is
not synchronized with Mains (4582)

Fan failure
4522
The fan control board IM 0051 indicates a malfunction of one or more ventilators.
Load locked on Mains
The UPS has blocked the load on Mains after detection of 3 transfers Inverter - Mains in less than the
4530
time in seconds specified in Parameter 75.
The load is free again for transfer at the end of the time in seconds defined in Parameter 74.

Load on Mains by error detector

The load on a single UPS was transferred to Mains due to an error detector signal.
4531
The Master unit decided to transfer the Load to Mains after having received from all the other UPS's
the presence of an error detector signal.
Emergency OFF / Total OFF
On the emergency OFF input of the customer interface an opening contact was detected.
Consequently K3, K4, K6, K7 and K8 open and the Rectifier, Inverter and SSM are shutdown.
4563
Only after closure of the emergency contact and a reset a reset (Press key Inverter OFF) the UPS can
start again.
Consult the chapter Emergency OFF for a detailed description.

Overload
See also chapter Overload.
UPS in overload condition, with load >125% on Inverter and Mains not available. This overload
condition will cause a timeout with stop operation, according to the table below, followed by a "Load
OFF" at the end of it.

On Mains, any load superior 150% is considered as overload, without however going into stop
operation, as in the previous Sitepros of series 4 and 5 !!
4570 Load on Inverter and bypass not available:
After timeout the Inverter is shut down and can be restarted after a delay of 3 Minutes.

Load =125% 10 Minutes

Load =135% 3 Minutes
Load =150% 1 Minute
Load =175% 5 Seconds

Overload, Load on Mains

The load will be transferred due to an overload superior 115%, or for a load from 100% to 115%
4571
transfer will take place with the delay specified in Parameter 125.
As soon as the load will be inferior 100%, the load is retransferred to Inverter.

Inverter and Mains not synchronized

4581 The phase error between Mains and Inverter is superior to the value in Parameter 123, and
consequently after a few seconds K6 opens.

Main board battery change needed

4681 The mainboard lithium battery must be replaced, after that it is necessary to set the parameter 264
to the default value.

DC capacitors change needed

4682 DC capacitors must be replaced, after that it is necessary to set the parameter 265 to the default
value.

AC capacitors change needed

4683 AC capacitors must be replaced, after that it is necessary to set the parameter 266 to the default
value.

Fan replacement needed

4684
FANs must be replaced, after that it is necessary to set the parameter 267 to the default value.

Service Maintenance overdue

4685 Service maintenance must be done, after that it is necessary to set the parameter 68 to the default
value.

Battery Over temperature

4697 Battery temperature exceeds the value set in Parameter 82.
The Alarm can be disabled by setting Parameter 82 to 0.

Insufficient Battery power

4698 Indication, that in case of Mains failure the backup time of the Battery would be less then Stop
operation time installed in Parameter 102.

Conditions inhibit execution of Battery test

The Battery test is postponed due to one of the following conditions:

Battery not fully charged (Automatic test)

4699 Load not supplied from Inverter (Automatic test)
Rectifier OFF
K3 open
The actual Load is < 10% (Automatic test) or > 80%.

DC Low
The Battery voltage measured is below the value installed in Parameter 90 (U-Minimum)
(Attention the displayed value always corresponds to 192 cells, while decision taking is based on the
4700
value calculated from the number of cells installed in Parameter 89 !!!)
The Inverter is shutdown and can be restarted only when the Battery has reached the level installed
in Parameter 92 (U-Nominal).

Load locked on Inverter

The load was locked on Inverter after 3 commutations Inverter - Mains within the time window
4900 specified in Parameter 75.
The load is free again for transfer at the end of the time in seconds defined in Parameter 74.
During the "lock time" any eventual error detector signal will be ignored.
Over temperature UPS
A UPS temperature superior the value in Parameter 138 is measured.
If Mains are a available the Inverter is shutdown Immediately and the load transferred to Mains.
4955
If Mains are not available and no change takes place, stop operation is issued and the Inverter shuts
down after 3 Minutes.
The Inverter will restart automatically with the temperature decreased to lower temperature.

Switch off Load (Overload)

4998
At the end of stop operation with overload on the Inverter, the UPS disconnects from the load.

Switch off Load (Low battery / Over temperature)

4999 At the end of stop operation due to either end of autonomy, minimum Battery voltage or over
temperature, the UPS disconnects from the load as there was no possibility to transfer to Mains.

Overload

Any load superior 100% of the nominal output power, also if applied only to one of the three phases,
must be considered as overload.

Attention: The calculation for an overload condition is based on the load current of each phase. It's
therefore possible to read an overload percentage of a single phase, while the percentage of the UPS total
load indicates less then 100%, this often due to a phase shift, current - voltage, which is different to the
value of  0,9 or 0,8 specified.

The response of the UPS to an overload condition is depending on the percentage of overload as follows:

Important: The description below is valid also for paralleled UPS's. In this case however not the load of a
single UPS is considered, but the system load. Therefore the parallel system reacts identical to overload
as a single UPS would.

Please Note: Introduction of Firmware version 3.18 for the control board with ECN 1289. With this
version the timeout and percentage of some values of Stop operation have been modified as follows:

125% - 126% = 10 Minutes.

127% - 135% = 3 Minutes.

136% - 151% = 1 Minute for 10-325kVA and 30 Seconds for 400-500kVA.

> 151% = 3 Seconds.

< 115%: No reaction, only indication on load measurement

> 115%: With Utility available, transfer to Mains and Alarm 4571: Overload: Load on Mains. With
Utility not available Alarm 4570: Overload.

> 125% Alarm 4570: Overload + Stop operation, with timeout depending on load percentage. (125%
=10 Minutes, 150% = 30 Seconds) See Alarm 4570.

With Utility available, the load is transferred to Mains.

In case Utility voltage is not available, timeout of stop operation starts At the end of which the
Inverter is shutdown and the output transferred to Utility.

In case of separate inputs for Rectifier and Bypass and Utility failure only for the Rectifier, the load is
transferred to Bypass at the end of stop operation.

Should during the timeout of Stop operation the load decrease below 100%, then Stop operation
terminates and the message 4572: No more overload, will be issued.

Auto start: The Inverter starts again automatically after 3 Minutes recovery time, after the end of
Stop operation and Inverter shutdown.

See ALARMS  4570, 4571 and message 4561 for Stop operation timeout and Overload values with
load on Mains.

Description of changes with Firmware 3.30 & 10.0

Below a listing of the newly introduced features with this versions:

Adapting the Rectifier Mains input frequency range to the values in the Data sheet. (+/- 10%)

Parameter 313 for the programming of the functionality in case of Rectifier overtemperature. (4105
& 4106)

Parameter 360 allows to choose between Battery backup algorithms, in particular the calculation
based on active Load power.

In page 6, line 3 of the Display, the necessary number of UPS (x UPS) for redundancy in a parallel
system is indicated, instead of the previous  Load percentage. On a single unit the this indication
remains blank.

Introduction of PMAD (Preventive Maintenance and Advanced Diagnostics), to improve system

availability, by indicating critical situations of the UPS:

Discontinuity on the communication lines of the parallel bus or the connectivity bus. (Parameters
249, 251, 262 and 263.)
Problems of Load sharing. (Parameters 350, 259 and 261)
High AC - Ripple on the DC-Link voltage. (Parameter 349)
Time out for the replacement of critical components, like Battery, DC-Capacitors, AC-Capacitors and,
or Ventilators.

See the pages PMAD for a more detailed description.

New Load percentage calculation based on the measurement of following values:

RMS current defined in Parameter 110.

Peak current defined in Parameter 111.
Inverter Series current (IS),. defined in Parameter 351.

Inverter Series current will be considered once the RMS Load current  exceeds the threshold set in
Parameter 253,
in addition it takes into account the Inverter voltage, the active Load power, the AC-Capacitors value
and the output cos phi.
Active Load power is defined in Parameter 337.
Visualization of the Power factor can be activated in the measurement pages of the Display with
Parameter 388 with +/- 0.xx. While + indicates inductive Load, - indicates capacitive Load.

In Parameter 389 the behaviour of Contacter K6 can be defined. Now, with blocked Bypass, K6 opens
only when the SSM is switched OFF.

Battery Boost charge is introduced with Parameter 413 for Boost charge ON level, Parameter 414
defines the Boost charge OFF level, while Parameter 412 the Boost charge voltage per Battery cell
can be set.

In Parameter 147 an internal or external K3 configuration can be defined. In cases where no

indication about the contactor status is given Parameter 147 set for 00002) the UPS will consider the
Battery as connected with DC-Voltage exceeding 250V.

New Service codes have been created for the monitoring of the fast A/D converters (9D10 - 9D1D).
Forthe slow A/D Converters the codes are 9D20 - 9D2A.

In Bit 02 of Parameter 411 the action of Load OFF in a Parallel system can be defined:
Bit 02 set for 0 = Load OFF (default) for all units of the paralleled system. Set to 1 = Load OFF only
on this Unit (in this case individual Load OFF reset on each unit).

In Parameter 366 the behaviuor of the UPS in case DC Power supply failure can be defined. Default
setting = 00002.
With this configuration Rectifier and Inverter will shutdown and K3 open in case of failure. (Alarm
4701 is issued)

Never change Parameters with critical load connected to the UPS !!

Before changing Parameters, switch the Load to maintenance Bypass Q2.
Change Parameters with only logic power on.

Parameters define to a great part the function of the UPS.

Apart from a few Resistors Rx, all settings, adjustments, calibrations and personalization of the UPS,
must be done with the Parameters.

Parameters are divided into 3 levels: See also "Access to Parameters" below.

User Parameters: These Parameters can be directly accessed from the panel by pressing the key
"Parameters"
Expert Parameters: To access this Parameters a password is needed. Some basic settings of the UPS
like output voltages or number of battery cells can be defined.
Service Parameters: Access with a Password different to the above, only for Service engineers.
Expert Parameters are displayed first, when entering the service Parameters.

Attention:
Although you have complete access to all Parameters, this does not mean to have the permission to
change them all. In particular Parameters related to Rectifier and Inverter regulation shall not be
touched, unless ordered or suggested from our diagnostic experts which can be addressed under service-
[email protected]
This Parameters are therefore neither listed nor explained in this document.

The value of some Parameters might change due to adaptions, new experiences or improvements. In the
page Software a chronological listing of some of this changes are shown.

Below a description of the main functions of the Parameters, followed by an explanation of how to access
the different levels of the Parameters.

The main functional groups of Parameters:

Parameters of similar functions can be put into one of the main groups shown below:

Power depending Parameters:

Parameters which are related to the output power of the UPS.
Personalization Parameters:
All Parameters which define the mode of function of the UPS.
Examples: Battery and related Parameters, programmable functions like channels of the customer
interface, Bypass etc.
Calibration Parameters:
For the calibration of all measurements.
Regulation Parameters:
With these Parameters the performance of the  Rectifier and Inverter regulation circuits can be
influenced.
DSP Parameters (mainly for Inverter and Parallel regulation)

Access to Parameters

Parameters offer in a most convenient way the possibility of adjustments, adaptions and other
interventions on the UPS, without any hardware changes, allowing thus to resolve many problems due to
specific loads or particular Mains conditions by simply changing a number or value.
As much this can help to resolve problems, as much it can create problems if settings of Parameters are
wrong.
To protect therefore the customer and the UPS from wrong manipulations, some of the Parameters are
accessible only with a password.
The Parameters are for that reason divided in 3 levels:

First level: Access without password, simply by pressing the key for the Parameters.
Parameters on this level have no influence on the function of the UPS and are translated in every
available language. See listing below.
To access the Password screen press the keys for "ok" and "parameter" simultaneously.
Second level: Intended for the customer with advanced knowledge and of course the service
engineer.  Access only via password. (Parameters are displayed only in English)  Listing see below.
Password: "YYYYYYYY"
Third level, reserved exclusively for the service engineer, with access to all Parameters, with a
password which is different to the above.
Listing see Parameters List. Password: "0XXXXXX0".
In third level Parameters also the second level Parameters are displayed.

How to change a Parameter:

After entering the desired level of Parameters, scroll with the "+" key to the page of the Parameter
you want to change.
Move then the cursor with Key "-" to the Parameter you want to change.
Press Key "ok" to enter edit mode.
Move with Key "+" the cursor to the Parameter value you want to change and change with Key "-".
Make sure for correct value, then confirm and install the new Parameter by pressing again Key "ok".
Press "metering" to return to the main screen.
N.B. As long as the new value is not confirmed with Key "ok",  you can exit at any time the
Parameters without any change, by pressing either Key "measuring" or Key "alarms".

Daisy

A new Daisy, with a new look and some additional features.

In particular, that it's capable to read the new as well as the old protocol automatically.

Same cable as for the old Protocol. Connection can be to the RS 232 port on the Customer Interface IM
0005 for the new protocol, or to J11 for the old protocol.
Daisy will recognise automatically either of the protocols. That means you can use this Daisy also on
Sitepro units of older series. Different plugs for old / new protocol.

However, the information from the UPS, also sometimes shown in a different form, is identical to the
information of the old Protocol.

Disadvantage: Due to the increased word length in the new Protocol (32 bit instead of 16) and identical
Baud rate, this Daisy is reacting very slow.

Advantage when used on Parallel systems: Since the new Customer Interface IM 0005 has a "Bus
structure", no enabling or disabling with Jumpers of the RS 232 port is necessary, as it is necessary with
the old Protocol.
You can plug in Daisy on any RS 232 port on any Parallel Unit of series 6.

In version 0.0 of Daisy, a file called codes.eve is missing. This file exists on all older versions and can be
copied directly from any Daisy to this new version.

To activate Daisy after starting it, you must first select the COM port. See below.

See below some screens of Daisy:

Attention: Changing date or time between reading of events, can cause incorrect or missing display of
events !!!

Emergency OFF

In a case of danger it is possible to shut down immediately the UPS and to separate it from the load and
input by opening an external contact of a "Emergency switch", (Mushroom type) which must be
connected to the customer interface IM 0005 of the UPS.
See the page Customer Interface for connection details, or the operating manual.

Functional description with contact opened:

K6, K7, K3, K8 and K4, open immediately

Rectifier and Inverter are shutdown

SSM (static switch) disabled

The condition is signaled with the alarm Emergency off / Total off, 4563

The UPS remains in this condition as long as the contact stays open.

After closure of the contact:

Press the key "OFF" (Inverter OFF) on the panel,  for Reset of Emergency OFF.

K6 closes and the SSM activated then closes K8, if bypass utility is available and Q1 is closed.
The load is then supplied from utility.

K4 closes, the Rectifier starts and K3 will close at the end of soft start.

It is now possible to restart  the Inverter manually

After Inverter start, the load will transfer automatically to Inverter..

IMPORTANT:
In case of paralleled Interfaces (up to 3) the Emergency OFF contact is connected to one Interface only
(any of the 3), but the bridge on X2 and Jumper JP3 must be removed on all other boards.

In a parallel system, each unit in the system needs it's own contact connected separately to the customer
interface IM 0005, respecting the above, in case of more then one Interface.

Stop operation

Stop operation means that the Inverter will shut down after a time which depends on the existing
conditions.
A condition of "Stop Operation" is indicated on the corresponding LED on the panel, and depending on the
type of stop operation, an alarm is signalized.
"Stop Operation" can occur under 3 different conditions:

End of Battery discharge. (Autonomy, backup time).

UPS Over temperature

UPS Overload

End of Battery discharge

In Parameter 102 you can define the time of Stop operation for battery discharge, in Minutes. Possible
values: Minimum = 1 Minute, Maximum = autonomy or backup time set in Parameter 103.
The LED goes OFF at the end of stop operation i.e. shutdown of the Inverter together with the Alarm
4999, load off due to low Battery voltage.
In case of Mains return before the end of stop operation, the LED remains lit until the Battery is
recharged, to guarantee again a backup time corresponding to stop operation time, calculated with the
actual load.
As soon as, after Mains return, the Battery is recharged for a backup time corresponding to stop
operation time, with the actual load, the Inverter restarts automatically.

 UPS Over temperature

An eventual over temperature is measured and detected on the Inverter heatsink(s) for units up to
120kVA. UPS's from 150 to 500kVA have an additional detection inside the transformer(s).
Over temperature detection causes the Alarm 4955, and stop operation in case Mains Bypass voltage is
not available.
If the situation is not changing, the Inverter will shut down after 3 Minutes (fixed time) and the load
transferred to Mains, and the LED turned OFF. Alarm 4999, load off due to low Battery voltage or over
temperature.
With Mains available the load is transferred to Mains and the Inverter shutdown immediately.
The Inverter restarts automatically.
Overload

Any load superior 100% of the nominal output power, also if measured only on one of the three phases,
must be considered as overload.

The reaction of the UPS is depending on the amount of overload as follows:

< 115% No reaction, only indication on load measurement

> 115% With Utility available, transfer to Mains and Alarm 4571: Overload: Load on Mains. With Utility
not available Alarm 4570: Overload.

> 125% Alarm 4570: Overload + Stop operation, with timeout depending on load percentage. (125% =10
Minutes, 150% = 30 Seconds) At the end of Stop operation the Inverter is shut down and load
transferred to Mains.

< 100%: Should during the timeout of Stop operation the load decrease below 100%, then Stop operation
terminates and the message 4572: No more overload, will be issued together with the Alarm 4998, load
off due to overload.

Auto start: The Inverter starts again automatically after 3 Minutes recovery time, after the end of Stop
operation and Inverter shutdown.

Total OFF

Pressing the push button "Total OFF" on the UPS panel, will cause the following reaction from
the UPS:

All contactors, K4, K6, K7, K8 and apart from the 400 / 500kVA UPS's also K3 open. (400
/500kVA have fuses F8, F9), thus disconnecting completely the UPS from input and output.
See Blockdiagram.
Rectifier, Inverter and Static Switch are shutdown

In a parallel system it's sufficient to press "Total OFF" on one unit, to disconnect and shutdown
them all. All, that have of course Q1 closed !!!
(Exception: If Bit 2 0f Parameter 411 is set to 1, on all Modules, only the Module where the
Total OFF button was pressed is shutdown)

To return to normal function, a reset is necessary.
Reset is accomplished by pressing first the total OFF button and then simultaneously the
Inverter ON key.
After reset, K4 closes, the Rectifier starts and the Bypass connects to the output. (K6, SSM and
K8)

In a parallel system it's sufficient to press total OFF and Inverter ON on one unit, to return the
system to load supply from Utility and start their Rectifiers.

Attention: After a "Total OFF" condition verify very carefully for what reason this did happen
and do not reset unless there is absolute no danger, in particular to persons, or eventual
damage to equipment.

Alarm suppression

With Parameters 77, 78, 79 it's possible to activate or deactivate any of the below listed alarms, and store
it in the events memory as a simple message.

Each of the three Parameters consists of 16 bits, and each bit represents an alarm.
If a Bit is set to 0 (zero), means alarm not active, while set to 1 (one) means alarm active (standard).

Example:

We want to disable the alarms 4581, 4110, 4410 while all the others must remain enabled, which gives the
following result: (LSB, Low bit on the right)
For Parameter 77: High bit 1111001111100001 Low bit, Binary  .Decimal = 62433

For Parameter 78: High bit 0111111111000111Low bit, Binary    Decimal = 32711
For Parameter 79: High bit1111100000000011 Low bit, Binary    Decimal = 63491

Therefore to obtain the value to be set in the Parameter we must first write the value for each alarm as a binary
number (0 or 1), according to whether we want to disable or enable the alarm (disable = 0, enable = 1), and then
convert it to the corresponding Decimal value, which will be then the value To be written as Parameter.

Following are the default values for the 3 Parameters: 77 = 65534 / 78 = 65479 / 79 = 65535

Below the 3 tables for each Parameter, and the corresponding alarm assigned to each bit:

Parallel startup

After each module of the parallel system has been tested separately, they can now be paralleled
following the procedure below:

We presume that all modules are completely shutdown, i.e. utility power and Batteries disconnected,
however the communication bus cables are connected  and the outputs of all modules are connected
to a distribution cabinet.

Connect utility power to all modules. Power supply starts and display is activated.

Close Q1 on the first unit. K6 closes and the Rectifier starts. Wait for end of Rectifier soft start and
closure of K3.

Proceed identical with the other units of the parallel system.

When closing Q1 on the last unit, the SSM's are activated on all modules and K8 closes. The load is
now supplied from Bypass.

Open Q1 on all units apart from unit number 1.

Start the Inverter of unit 1 and wait for transfer to Inverter.

Start then the Inverters of all the other units, pressing again twice Inverter ON (Service mode !!) for
transfer of Inverter to output. (closure of K7)

See the diagram "Phase check" for this particular condition.

Measure now across each Q1, the voltage of each phase.

With the voltage on all Inverters equally installed , the measured value should  be less then 2 Volts.

Switch all Inverters OFF. When Inverter of unit 1 is switched OFF, the output will retransfer to
Mains.

Close then Q1 on all units.

Start Inverter 1, after transfer, start Inverter 2 .......8.

Do never start an Inverter before the previously started has terminated it's Soft start and, with
redundancy, closed it's K7.
Verify with all units running the measurements, if possible also the load sharing and load
distribution, if  load is available.

Layout IM 0076 A, B and C

This power supply board was introduced in July 2003 for the first 500kVA unit of the SG Series
(American version), for increased output power.
It can replace IM 8845 and IM 0061. In this case the EMI filter IM 6386 is not needed anymore,
since the EMI filter is already integrated on this board.
Apart from it's larger size and the position of J10 (UDC input), all other connections have the
same position. Refer to [email protected] for instructions in case of replacement.

With date of February 2007 version C of this board was introduced. The change consists of the
control of the 24 Volt DC supply voltage. (Yellow LED) An additional plug J12 brings the
information to the control board IM 0007 / J27. In case of a failure of this voltage Alarm 4701,
24 Volt failure will be issued.

Calibration Where and what

Normally the 3 phases of the Inverter output
voltages do not need any calibration.
Inverter output voltage
Calibration however is possible, refer to the page
calibration, section Inverter, for details.
Calibrate with Parameter 190 an eventual phase
shift between Inverter and Mains.
In case of a parallel system, this must be done
individually on each unit before the units are
Phase error Inverter - Mains paralleled.
Calibrate by adjusting Parameter 190, in order to
measure the lowest possible voltage between
phase L1 of the Inverter and phase L1 of Mains
(Utility). Check for security also the other 2 phases.
Parameter 191 allows the compensation of an
eventual phase shift between Inverters.

Battery test

1. Manual Battery test

Manual battery test must be done from the UPS panel and is not possible with DAISY!

The following Parameters determine the function of the manual Battery test:

Go in second level Parameters to "Manual Battery test".

Set in U. Test the test voltage, i.e. the voltage below which the Alarm Battery fault (4118) is given,
and the Rectifier
would immediately return to floating voltage.

Define in Time the duration in Minutes for the test.

Put start to Y (Yes) to start the test, or interrupt at anytime by setting it N (No).

U.Test = Test voltage

Time = Duration of test in Minutes

Start = Change to "Y" to start the manual test

Test voltage could also be set in third level Parameters, Parameter 22 and test time in Parameter 23,
while the start of the test must be done from second level Parameters, shown on the screen above.

Manual Battery test is possible under following conditions:

Rectifier is running

UPS load is below 80%

K3, Fuses F8,9 or Q3a are closed. (Auxiliary contact)

With the start of the test, the voltage of the Rectifier is gradually decreased.
Should the battery voltage during test reach the test voltage  + 2 Volts, or the voltage defined in
Parameter 91, the test will terminate, alarm 4118 "Battery fault" given, and the Rectifier returns
immediately to floating voltage.
The test can be terminated manually at any time. (Y to N)

2. Automatic Battery test

Following are the conditions for an automatic Battery test:

 Load is supplied from Inverter.

The battery is fully charged.

 Rectifier is running.

Minimum load 10%, maximum load 80%.

K3, Fuses F8,9 or Q3a are closed. (Auxiliary contact)

In a parallel system the test can be programmed individually for each unit.
In case of paralleled Rectifiers on one (common) Battery, the test can be programmed on either unit.

At beginning of the test, the voltage of the Rectifier is reduced in order to allow the discharging of the
Battery.

Duration of the automatic Battery test previously was 1/5 (20%) of the time specified in Parameter 103,
Backup (Autonomy) time.
Now the duration of test is calculated 1/5 (20%) of the actual available and calculated autonomy time.
Therefore the test will terminate when the remaining autonomy on the display shows 80%.
From Software version 2.0 onwards only. Previously 1/5 of backup time.

Should the battery voltage during test reach the test voltage defined in Parameter 19 (Automatic test
voltage) + 2 Volts, or descend below the voltage defined in Parameter 91, (Battery under voltage), then
the test will terminate, alarm 4118, Battery fault given, and the Rectifier returns immediately to floating
voltage.
Automatic Battery test can be programmed either in second level Parameters or third level Parameters.

Procedure for the programming of the test in second level:

Go to page Auto Battery test.

Set Day of test and time of test

Set repetition rate of test (see below for possibilities)

Test voltage must be set in third level Parameters (see below) Parameter 19.

Enable or disable test

Day: Day of the week

d1 - d7 (d1 = Saturday)
or day of the month 1 - 28

Day time: Hour of the day

Test per year: Repetition of test, see table

below

See below for values !! Test voltage must be set in Parameter 19

Following are the Parameters for the programming of the test in third level:

Parameter 16:   Hour of battery test (1- 23) (Daytime)

Parameter 17:   Day of battery test (possible: 1 - 28) (Day)

Parameter 18:   Repetition sequence of test  (weeks or month, see below)

Parameter 19:   Test voltage for automatic test.

Parameter 20:   1 = Test enabled,  0 = Test disabled

The automatic battery test can be programmed in two different ways:

Day of the week with repetition time in week(s).
(Parameter 17)

d1 or 65535 = Saturday

d2 or 65534 = Sunday

d3 or 65533 = Monday

d4 or 65532 = Tuesday

Over Temperature

Depending on the UPS output power a various number of temperature sensors on the Rectifier
and Inverter bridges control the temperature.
A NTC resistor in series with Klixon (80°C) is used for the temperature measurement.

Possible causes for over temperature condition could be:

Ventilator failure.

insufficient airflow i.e. air inlet or outlet blocked.

Condition of continuous overload.

In case of an over temperature condition, apart from the alarm 4955 (Over temperature UPS), the load is
transferred to Mains and the Inverter shutdown.
In case Mains voltage is not available, stop operation is issued and at the end of the timeout of 3 Minutes
the Inverter is shutdown, resulting in the alarm 4999, Load Off, due to over temperature.

Should the temperature during stop operation, or at any other time, result to be superior 90°C, then the
Inverter is shut down immediately and alarm 4999, "Load Off, due to over temperature" is issued.

With 25°C the NTC-Resistor has a value of 470 Ohm. With open circuit, i.e. no connection to the NTC-
Resistor the display will show 95°C.

As soon as the temperature decreases ca 20°C below the level set in Parameter 138, the Inverter will
automatically start again, followed by load transfer to Inverter.

Error Detector

Error detector we call a circuit which can detect fast changes of an AC voltage.

Two identical circuits, one for the load, i.e. UPS output voltage, the other for the Utility Bypass voltage
are implemented on this units.

1. Error detector UPS voltage (Load voltage measured at the input of Q1)

An error detector signal causes, with available Utility, a transfer to Utility together with the Alarm
4531 Load on Utility by error detector. Automatic retransfer occurs in case the Inverter voltage stays
within tolerance.

With Utility voltage not available, the error detector signal has no influence on the UPS function. No
Alarm.

Parameters:
Parameter Value to adjust Test point
128 Threshold 100 (V)
J39: pin 2,  Gnd pin1,
129 Phase Error det. < 150mV
on  IM 0007
134 Enable Error det. 0= disable / 1= enable

 Various adjustments.

For this adjustment and the one below: Start the Inverter in service mode (Q1 open). Press Inverter ON a
second time to connect the Bypass to the output. Adjust now.

2. Error detector Utility Bypass voltage. (Measured at Utility input)

An error detector signal disables the synchronization Inverter - Utility and Causes the opening of K6.

With Mains considered again to be ok, the Inverter synchronizes and K6 will close.
Parameters:
Parameter Value to adjust Test point
130 Threshold 100 (V)
J39: pin 3,  Gnd pin1
131 Phase Error det. < 150mV
on  IM 0007

Parallel settings

In a parallel system up to 8 modules can be paralleled.

The system does consider itself to be a parallel system with the parallel board IM 0006 inserted on the
control board IM 0007.

Each module is identified by it's number in the parallel system.

This number is set on the control board IM 0007 with a combination of 3 Jumpers, J14, J15, J16. See the
table below for settings.
See the board layout for the physical position of these Jumpers.

This number is also shown on the main page of the display.  (P1.....P8)
Furthermore in Parameter 159 is indicated whether it's a single or parallel unit.
2 = Single, 9 = Parallel ( Read only)

A single UPS has always the setting as number 1, i.e. all jumpers ON.

UPS number J14 J15 J16

1 ON ON ON
2 OFF ON ON
3 ON OFF ON
4 OFF OFF ON
5 ON ON OFF
6 OFF ON OFF
7 ON OFF OFF
8 OFF OFF OFF

Attention:
When using the RS 232 port J11 with the old protocol, the RS 232 port of only one module can
communicate, identical to the Sitepros of the previous series. The channels of all other modules must be
disabled by inserting Jumper JP4 on the parallel board IM 0006. See Layout for position.

The version of Software, i.e. Flash Eproms U2, U3 and U36 must be of the same version on all paralleled
UPS's.
See also the chapter "Software history", for changes, updates, modifications and improvements of
Software.

On the Customer Interface IM 0005 DIP - Switches according to the Interface number and the UPS
number must be set.

In a parallel system it's advisable to delay the Start of the Rectifiers after a Mains failure. We advice to
define in Parameter 222 the delay time in steps of 5 seconds:

Rectifier 1: 5 seconds
Rectifier 2: 10 seconds
Rectifier 3: 15 seconds
Rectifier 4: 20 seconds

Possible values for Parameter 222 are from 1 second to 300 seconds.

Once the settings and cable connections have been done on each UPS proceed to start up the parallel
system as described in "Parallel operation".

Parallel shutdown and restart (With Redundancy)

Shutdown of one of the modules in a parallel system is required in case of maintenance, modification or
repair.

In case of system redundancy i.e. the remaining modules have sufficient output power to supply the
load, we can separate one Module of the Parallel system.

Without system redundancy, the load will automatically transfer to Utility, when one of the Inverters is
shutdown.
In this case the load should be connected to the maintenance Bypass, i.e. the Q2's of all modules. This
allows to make the rest of the UPS voltage free, and work on them without influence to the output
(Load).

Attention: The communication bus cables of all UPSs with the control board IM0007 must be connected or
disconnected with the UPS Module completely shutdown, including power supply.

Shutdown with redundancy:

Press the key Inverter off on the UPS you want to separate.

Open Q1 on the same UPS. The system, although still communicating with this UPS, is considering it
now as not available for load supply, because of the open Q1.

Verify the message "Q1 open" in the Events list.

WARNING: On the Events display, verify that "Q1 OPEN" is displayed. If not, do not press the Total
Off button or load loss could occur. If Q1 OPEN is not displayed, the auxillery contacts on Q1 may be
malfunctioning, contact GE Service Support immediately.

Press the Total Off button on the same UPS to separate it completely.
K4, K6 and K8 open and the Rectifier shutdown.

Disconnect then the Battery. Discharge the DC - Link capacitors (possibly with the Inverter) then
disconnect Utility voltage, thus disconnecting input and output of this module completely.

Make sure the logic power is OFF, the display is blank, and no LEDs are present on the control board
IM0007.
To prevent from disturbances on the communication bus, remove both  communication cables JA and
JB on the communication bus interface IM0048, connecting to the parallel board IM0006 or IM0086.

Reconnect a module to the system:

Make sure the logic power is OFF, the display is blank, and no LEDs are present on the control board
IM0007.

Reconnect the communication bus cables to IM0048.

Connect Utility power to the UPS. Power supply is running and the display active.

If you want to test the module in service mode, follow the description in the chapter "Operation with
Q1 open"

If not, close Q1. This will cause the closure of K4, start of the Rectifier and the closure of K6.

Connect the Battery.

Press the Inverter ON key, to start the Inverter. As soon as the Inverter output voltage is considered
to be ok, synchronized and in phase, K7 will close and connect the Inverter to the parallel system.

Initial page | Parallel

Parallel shutdown (No Redundancy)

In case of maintenance or repair with no redundancy but continuous load supply is required, then the
load must be switched to maintenance circuit breaker Q2 :

Shutdown

Press Inverter off on one module after the other, until all Inverters are off. Remember to press
Inverter OFF twice, to make sure it stays off.

The load is now supplied from Utility.

Close Q2 on each module.

Open Q1 on each module.

Press the Total OFF button on each module, to shutdown the Rectifier and open K4, K6, K8.

If Utility must remain connected to the Modules, disconnect X3 on the Power interface IM 0049
(Bypass voltage for AC Power supply), to shut down the electronics.

Restart

Reconnect X3 on the Power Interface if previously disconnected. Power supply runs and the display
active.

If you want to test each module in Service mode, proceed as described in "Operation with Q1 open",
otherwise go to the next step below.

Close Q1 on each module. This causes the closure of K4 and K6 and start of the Rectifier.

At the closure of Q1 of the last module the Bypass of all units is activated, by closing their K8 and
SSM.

Open now Q2 on all modules. Verify for correct measurements, load current, output voltages and
load sharing.
Start the Inverter of the first module. With redundancy K7 will close and connect the Inverter to the
Load. Without redundancy a sufficient number of  Inverters must start, to transfer the Load to
Inverter.

Proceed to start the remaining Inverters always waiting for the termination of it's start cycle, before
starting the next.

Verify with load on Inverter for correct measurements and load sharing.

Up to maximum 4 Rectifiers can be paralleled on one Battery, we recommend however strongly, not to
parallel more then 2 Rectifiers.
Attention:
Parameter 222 for Rectifier  start delay and all Parameters from 84 to 95 must be identical for all
Rectifiers !!!
Battery temperature sensor NOT connected.

Change parameters only with Rectifier shutdown !!!

Modifications
Software version for U2 and U3 must be 1.5 or higher.
On the main control board IM 0007D, 2 Resistors must be changed:
R 139 must be 3k, R 247 must be 11k, see Layout for position.
Modification number 107 refers to this change.
Boards with Modification 107 or higher have this values already changed !!!

Parameters
Two new Parameters were introduced:

Parameter 207 for the current share regulation. Default value 64

Parameter 127 GROUPS. In this Parameter is defined which 2 Rectifiers are paralleled on the same
Battery. See table below for possible combinations.

Parameter 162 for the Battery current offset calibration (indicative value 410)
Parameter 160 for the Battery current calibration depending on output power. See below for values:

In this case I must insert in Parameter 127 of UPS 3 the value 52, while in Parameter 127 of UPS 5, the
value is 32.

Settings of other Parameters related to the Battery:

Charging current limitation. Same value set on all Rectifiers,
Parameter  84
corresponding normally to 20% of Battery capacity.
Battery capacity: Same value set on all Rectifiers,
Parameter  85
corresponding to the capacity of the Battery.
Floating voltage: Same value set on all Rectifiers,
Parameter  88
corresponding to floating voltage.
Number of cells: Same value set on all Rectifiers,
Parameter  89
corresponding with the actual number of cells.
Autonomy time: Same value set on all Rectifiers. Backup time
in Minutes for 100% system Load. For example 2 units of
Parameter  103
100kVA, the autonomy time must be set for 200kVA on each
unit.

Startup
Start the Rectifier first as standard single Rectifier. Only in a next step, the configuration will be
modified.
ATTENTION: It's most important that each Rectifier has it's own Battery fuse, and the actual paralleling
is done on the Battery.

How to start a Rectifier

Verify for correct settings of Parameter 127

Close Q4 on each UPS

After closure of K3 or manual closure of Q3a at the end of  Rectifier soft start, close immediately the
Battery fuses on all UPS's, thus activating the share regulation circuit of the 2 Rectifiers, which
works based on the status of the auxiliary contact.

Attention: Due to the fact that K3 separates only the negative pole of the Battery, never close the
Battery fuses before starting the Rectifier.

How to shutdown a Rectifier

Switch OFF Inverter and open Q1
Press Total OFF
Open Battery fuses

Battery test
Parameters for the Battery test must be identical on both UPS's in particular the Parameters 19
(Automatic test) and 22 (Manual test) which define the test voltage.

Automatic Battery test shall only on 1 UPS be enabled.

Manual Battery test shall only be done on 1 UPS.

PMAD Introduction
PMAD (Preventive Maintenance and Advanced Diagnostics) is based entirely on Software.

PMAD makes use of already existing measurements and detections, therefore no hardware modifications
are necessary. See the page Installation for necessary procedures.

The new features of PMAD can communicate, together with the already existing, through the following
structures:

UPS panel and display

IRIS (GPRS or Modem)
SNMP
Modbus

PMAD helps to improve system reliability by alerting the user or service about critical conditions like
communication line problems, load share problems, the need of component replacements, or the
calculation of the actual Inverter loading, in order to avoid overload conditions.

Attention: In parallel systems the version of EEPROM IC2 on the parallel board IM 0086 must be 13,
together with the version 3.30 for U2 and U3 and 10.0 for U36 (or higher).

Initial page ¦ PMAD

PMAD Installation

PMAD (Preventive Maintenance and Advanced Diagnostics) is based entirely on Software, and works with
all UPSs which are using the IM 0007 as control board. In fact only the 3 Flasheproms (U2, U3, and U36)
have to be replaced.

Proceed as follows when installing PMAD:

Shut down the UPS completely, including Power supply. If necessary supply the load through
Maintenance Bypass Q2.
Replace the Flash Eproms U2, U3 (v. 3.21) and U36 (v. 7.4) on the control board IM 0007 with the
PMAD version.
Restart only Electronic supply.
Verify, or and insert Parameter values according the listings in the page Parameters or Power
depending Parameters.
Restart now the UPS in normal mode (Q1 closed) and connect some load, ideally ca. 50%.
Verify for correct measurement of cos phi in Parameters 341, 342 and 343, either with a load with
known cos phi or by measuring with an adequate instrument. If necessary calibrate. See page
Cos Phi Measurement for calibration details.
In a parallel system verify the correct indication of Parameters 262, 263 of the communication bus
control. See page Communication Bus Detection.
Verify with and without load the current share values in a parallel system. See page Current Share.
In case of remote connections like IRIS, SNMP card or Modbus verify the functionality.
Information can be found in the appropriate Manuals.

Communication Bus Detection

This feature applies only to Paralleled UPSs and their Communication Bus !!

The Sitepro and SG series have redundant communication channels, named channel JA and channel JB.

Parameter 262 represents channel JA while Parameter 263 shows the value for channel JB.
These Parameters show the the number of UPSs detected on the communication bus, including itself.

These Parameters show a decimal value, converted from a binary value.

The binary value consists of 8 bits, each bit corresponding to the number the UPS, which was assigned in
the parallel system on the control board IM 0007 with Jumpers J14, 15, 16.

In normal operation, Parameters 262 and 263 must be identical.

A difference between these Parameter values indicates a malfunction. The failed channel is indicated by
the lower value Parameter.

Example:

Situation: 4 UPS in parallel, with numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 assigned. (Jumpers J14, 15, 16 on IM 0007)

Case 1: Parameters 262 and 263 show a value of 00015. This corresponds in Binary to 00001111,
therefore this UPS can see 4 units in communication, on both channels.

Case 2: Parameter 262 shows a value of 00011. However 4 units are existing, and thus the correct value
should be 00015. In Binary 00011 corresponds to 00001011, indicating that unit number 3 is missing,
respectively not communicating on bus JA.

Another example:
The value of Parameters 262 = 3, corresponding to binary 00000011 and therefore for 2 units.
Value of Parameter 263 however, shows only 2, i.e. channel B shows only the presence of 1 unit
with the number 2.
Parameters 262 and 263 are not identical.
The lower value in Parameter 263 indicates a failure on Bus B of the UPS unit with number 1.

Actually 2 failure possibilities exist:

Bus A or Bus B failure, which is indicated with Alarms either 4008 or 4009, and at the same time we
can see in Parameters 262 and 263 which channel of which UPS is missing. See the examples above.
In Parameter 249 the sensitivity of this detection can be installed.
In case of disturbed communication however, another type of Alarm results. Alarm 4006 or 4007
indicate a CRC (Cyclic Redundance Check) failure. The Sensitivity can be adjusted with
Parameter251.

In addition to the Alarm, in case of an interrupted communication bus, a yellow LED is lit on the parallel
board IM 0086.
In case of a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) failure however, the red LED on the parallel board of the
corresponding channel will be lit.
Initial page ¦ PMAD

Connectivity Bus Detection
The Sitepro and SG series have redundant communication channels, named channel A and channel B.

Apart from the UPS communication within the paralleled units, these cables have separate channels for
connectivity.

The signals of these connectivity buses are continuously controlled for their readability. In case a
malfunction is detected Alarm 4010 CONNECTIVITY BUS FAILURE, will be issued.

Attention: Only on the bus cable at which the communication is active (Cable A or B), a failure can be
detected !!
When the Bus communication changes from one channel to the other, automatically also the Connectivity
Bus will change on this same channel.

No Parameters are provided.

Initial page ¦ PMAD

Service Check, Livetime Counters
To the already, and still existing Service Check programmed in Parameter 68, additional 4 timers are
introduced with PMAD.

While Parameter 68 is not associated with a particular function, the 4 new Parameter are dedicated to
particular component(s), as follows: (Time in hours !!)

Parameter 264 Batt. depending Time of Service Check for the Batteries

Time of Service Check for the DC - Capacitors (DC -

Parameter 265 50000
Link)

Parameter 266 50000 Time of Service Check for the AC output Capacitors

Parameter 267 20000 Time of Service Check for the Ventilators

Attention: The values in the table above are only examples, and can differ, depending on experience and
technical data from the supplier.

The Parameter will start to decrement when the corresponding value is set.
When the value of either of this Parameters becomes Zero, the LED Service Check starts flashing.
(Unless Q1 is open and thus overwriting the flashing)

The timer which caused the flashing of the LED must be verified in the Parameters, i.e. no message is
given on the display.
However with IRIS or the SNMP card, the single timeouts can be seen.

To cancel the flashing, no Reset operation is necessary. Simply introduce the desired number of hours
( Values from 0 - 65534 are possible, while with 65535 the function is disabled), and the countdown will
start automatically. N.B. this is valid also for the old Service check in Parameter 68. No reset required!

Particular time display on IRIS: The indication of time in hours will not stop when reaching zero, but will
continue counting. The indicated value however is not anymore hours but shows in RED color days and
weeks which have passed since reaching zero. This allows to confront the customer with an overdue
replacement of components, especially in case of failures.

Initial page ¦ PMAD

Current Share Detection
Current exchange between the Units of a parallel system can lead to dangerous conditions for the load
e.g. shutdown of a unit due to overload.

PMAD alerts you in case the exchange current on one or more phases in a particular unit exceeds the
value set in Parameter 350, by issuing the Alarm 4321.

In Parameters 257, 259, 261 the RMS exchange current can be read.

Initial page ¦ PMAD

Peak Current Detection

Highly nonlinear loads have often comparatively low RMS values , however high peak values.
This can lead to an over current condition on the Inverter bridge.

In Parameters 256, 258 and 260 we can read the peak values of the 3 phases of the load current,
enabling thus a valuation of the existing load(s), and if necessary take eventually corrective
measurements.

A regular inspection e.g. with IRIS could help to alert the customer before a critical situation for the load
could arise.

Initial page ¦ PMAD

DC Ripple Detection
High DC ripple voltage indicates  most probably a bad condition of the Electrolytic  Capacitors in the DC-
Link, or eventually a  Rectifier problem, like missing drive pulses.

The lifetime of the Electrolytic Capacitors is limited but can vary to great extend depending mainly on
temperature and superimposed AC Voltage.

Under normal operating conditions the end of the time set in Parameter 265 will indicate a due
substitution of these components, according the indication of the supplier.

In case of bad operational conditions, as indicated above, the measurement of increased ripple voltage
alerts you by issuing the Alarm 4121, HIGH DC RIPPLE.

The threshold of this Alarm is power depending and can be set in Parameter 349, while in Parameter 335
a significant indication of the RMS Battery ripple voltage can be read and verified.

Initial page ¦ PMAD

Cos-Phi Measurement and Calibration
By measuring the cos phi on each phase of the output of the UPS, the actual Inverter bridge load can be
calculated and shown correctly also on the display. This permits to protect the UPS in case of critical load
(e.g. capacitive load), by activating the overload Alarm.
The display however gives no information about the cos phi in the measurement screens!

The actual existing cos-phi for the 3 phases can be seen in Parameters 341, 342, 343.

ONLY FOR SG SERIES !!

In the page "Load on Phases" (Attention: Displayed in the selected language) the kVA  and the power
factor of each phase are displayed.
A sign is applied to the power factor to discriminate between capacitive load (negative) and inductive
load (positive).

Calibration

In order to have correct readings a calibration might be necessary.

Calibration Parameter 336 is valid for all 3 phases, which requires to find a compromise value for all 3
phases, since the cos phi might slightly differ from phase to phase.

Basically we can proceed in 2 ways for the calibration:

Measure the cos phi with an adequate instrument, or

Have a load with a known cos phi

In either case you should try to calibrate with Parameter 336 the values in Parameters 341, 342, 343 as
close as possible to the read or known value.

To achieve an acceptable accuracy a minimum amount of load is required, ideally around 50%.

A tolerance of 0.02 of the reading compared to the instrument is acceptable.

The table below shows typical values of a cos phi measurements. Bit 5 indicates whether the load is
inductive (lagging power factor) with a 0, while a capacitive load (leading power factor) is shown with a
1.
Bit 1 and 2 show the measured cos phi.

Inductive Load 0.82-0.84 Capacitive Load 0.96-0.98

Indicated by a zero on first bit Indicated by a 1 on the first bit

IM 0007 replacement

Below a step by step description for the procedure when changing this board:

Shutdown the UPS, if necessary with load supplied from Maintenance Bypass Q2.

Store, if possible, the Parameters with "Upload" from Daisy on a PC.

If not possible, you will have to check all Parameters with the PIOR from the Display and partly
adjust them manually, after replacing the board.

Disconnect X3 on the Power Interface IM 0049  to shutdown the power supply, in case Mains voltage
cannot be disconnected due to load supply through Q2.

Exchange now carefully the old with the new board.

Attention to static discharge !!

Verify the setting of Jumpers and values of Rx's R302 and R298 with the PIOR or replace them from
the old board. R298 for UDC Max = 1k2 for UDC floating 485V.
R302 defines the level of IS Max and is therefore power dependent. See also board layout.

Change the Flash Eproms from the old to the new board, or in case of update insert the new ones in
the new board. (U2, U3, U36)

Verify for correct connections of all cables and plugs.

Reconnect X3 to the Power Interface IM 0049.

Verify after start of the power supply, on the main page of the display
"Self test board ok".

On IM 0007 LED 27 should be ON (Master) LED 28 OFF and LED's 29, 30, 31 blinking, LED 27 must be
ON (Master) LED 28 OFF (not used).

Verify for correct function and indication of the display including a "Lamp test".

The last 3 Alarms should read: 4411 Bypass Mains ok, 4763 Remote control ON (not always), 4583
Command to synchronize.
Connect Daisy and store with the function "Download" the previously uploaded Parameters on the
new board.

Also with Daisy, program the ID - Number (PIOR) and set correct date and time.

Before starting the UPS in Service mode, perform a Low voltage startup.

If ok, start the Rectifier by pressing simultaneously the keys "mute" and "lamp" .
At the end of soft start K3 closes. Verify for correct output voltage and value on the display. If
necessary Calibrate or adjust.

Verify for 0 Battery current. If necessary calibrate offset with Parameter 86.

Verify for correct Utility measurements of Rectifier  and Bypass. If incorrect, calibrate.

Calibration of Phase error Inverter - Mains:

Connect a Voltmeter to Phase L1 Bypass and Phase L1 Inverter. (Test points on Power interface IM
0049). Start the Inverter.
Verify for correct Inverter output voltage on all phases.
Adjust with Parameter 190 to obtain minimum possible voltage.

Calibration of Error detectors:

Connect Voltmeter to test points shown below with Inverter OFF.
Press twice Inverter ON to connect Bypass Utility to the output, then adjust for lowest possible
value.
Adjust with Parameters 129, 131, according to the table below.

Parameter Value Test point

131: Error detector Bypass <150mV J39: pin 3, GND pin1
129: Error detector Load < 150mV J39: pin2, GND pin1

K7 activation delay: Verify for values of Parameters 308 and 309 set according to PIOR. This setting
has influence on the load share signal during parallel operation.

Inverter ON to initialize transfer from Utility to Inverter. Verify for correct voltage adaption (Inverter
voltage 2 Volt above Utility) before transfer and closure of K7.

Before starting the UPS in normal mode i.e. with Q1 closed, make sure to have the Load OFF button
pressed in service mode, after Inverter shutdown.
For startup of a UPS single or parallel refer to the corresponding pages:
Single operation or Parallel startup.

In case of a parallel system check the diagnostic LED's on the Parallel board IM 0006.

Verify with load: Load currents, Rectifier current and Battery discharge current.

Eventually measure with current clamps for symmetrical currents on all 3 phases of the Rectifier
input.
