Course Outline - Managing Complex Projects in Technical Concerns
I. Course Description:
Technical Project Management, utilizes a simulated team project to manage a project’s life
cycle. Emphasis is placed on activity networks, managing resources, and creating control
mechanisms that minimize risk. Project leadership is explored in the context of building
effective project teams and maintaining stakeholder relationships. Students will learn and apply
basic project management concepts including triple constraint, planning, scheduling, work
breakdown structures and project control.
In MS Project management program courses are designed to achieve the following objectives and to accomplish
the given learning outcomes upon the successful completion of these objectives.
PG 2 Problem Solving.
PLO 2.1 Able to identify problems arising on Projects, preventively and in real time, analyses
them in all their dimensions and offer viable solutions.
PLO 2.2 Able to work individually when situations so demand, through individual exercises.

PLO 2.3 Develop a sense of teamwork through group activities, a project being a team effort.
PG 3 Industrial Liaison.
PLO 3.1 Observe and discuss PM in practice through visits of Project sites, industrial plants and
corporate head offices.
PG 4 Research.
PLO 4.1 Develop research acumen through project case studies and project reports. For those
who opt for it, learn the essentials of research methodology leading to a full-fledged
MS-level thesis.
PLO 4.2 Develop knowledge base and research acumen, and learn research methodology, to be
able to progress to PhD studies.
PG 5 Certifications in PM.
PLO 5.1 Prepare the students for PM certifications, including certifications in related fields.
PG 6 Ethics.
PLO 6.1 Develop a strong sense of ethics, and commitment to professional ethics and
responsibilities, by identifying and case studying contemporary malpractices in PM.

The assessment of the students is done through a combination of quizzes, assignments, mid-term, oral viva, class
participation, projects and final exam, keeping in mind a 360 degree approach where a student is assessed multiple
times. The tentative division of total marks is as follows:
