Firstly, Commissioned Officers get professional and general military training at PAF
Academy Risalpur

Pilot Officer

Pilot Officer

Cadets becomes Pilot Officer after completing the training. The Basic Pay Scale of Pilot
Officer is 17 and its rank is equal to Second Lieutenant in Army and Midshipman in
Navy.

Flying Officer

Flying Officer

The next rank is Flying Officer. After promotion, Pilot officer becomes Flying Officer
and pay scale is BPS-17. This rank is equal to Lieutenant and Sub-Lieutenant in Navy.

Not all Flying Officers do fly. Mostly are aircrew members or do on-ground support.
while some have the command to do flights on-ground bases.

Flight Lieutenant

Flight Lieutenant

The pay scale of Flight Lieutenant is also BPS-17. This rank equal to Captain in Pak
Army and lieutenant in Navy.
Squadron Leader

Squadron Leader

Squadron Leader is the fourth rank in Commissioned Officers. It is equal to Major in


Army and Lieutenant Commander in Pakistan Navy. The Basic Pay Scale BPS is 18.

Wing Commander

Wing Commander

Wing Commander is equal to Lieutenant Colonel and Commander in Pakistan Navy and
pay scale is BPS-18. The rank of Wing Commander is equal to Lieutenant Colonel in Pak
Army and Commander in Naval.

Group Captain

Group Captain

After getting promotion, Wing Commander becomes Group Captain and pay scale is
BPS-19. Mostly, the officers of this category get retirement. The rank of Group Captain is
equal to Colonel in Pak Army and Captain in Pak Navy.

Air Commodore

Air Commodore

Air Commodore is the One Star Officer and pay scale is BPS-20. The rank of Air
Commodore is equal to Brigadier in Pak Army and Commodore in Pakistan Navy.
Air Vice-Marshal

Air Vice Marshal

Air Vice-Marshalis the Two Star Officer and pay scale is BPS-21. Air Vice Marshal
commands the 4-5 bases. The rank of Air Vice Marshal is equal to Major General in Pak
Army and Rear Admiral in Pak Navy.

Air Marshal

Air Marshal

Air Marshalis the Three Star Officer and pay scale is BPS-22. The responsibility of Air
Marshal to do planning and policy making at Air Headquarters. The rank of Air Marshal
is equal to lieutenant General in Pak Army and Vice Admiral in Pak Navy.

Air Chief Marshal

Air Chief Marshalis the Four-Star Officer and Basic Pay Scale is Apex. The rank of Air
Chief Marshal is equal to General in Pak Army and Admiral in Pak Navy.

Marshal of Air Force

Marshal of the Air Force

This is the highest rank in PAF. However, nobody achieved that rank till now. This rank
is equal to Field Marshal in Pak Army and Admiral of the Fleet in Pak Navy.
