Assignment Food Web

The document provides a food web and questions to assess understanding of ecology concepts. The food web includes hawk, mountain lion, oriole, rabbit, grasshopper, aphid, grass, blackberry bush, and tree. It then lists multiple choice and short answer questions about identifying producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores, energy transfer, and predator-prey relationships within the food web.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES (A formative assessment on ecology concept using a food

web.)

Given the food web above. Answer the following questions.

o Questions 1.

 Identify or draw the energy source of the grass, blackberry bush, and tree
 Identify the producers (autotroph) in the food web
 Identify the consumers (heterotroph) in the food
 Identify the omnivores in the food web
 Identify the herbivores in the food web
 Identify the carnivores in the food web
 What do the arrows in the food web represent?
 How is energy transferred in the food web?

Questions 2

 Identify the organisms that have the most energy in the food web.
 Which type of organism is missing from the food web?
 Which organisms provide nutrients for the largest number of other
organisms?
 Which organisms compete for food in the food web?
 Identify an example of a predator-prey relationship using the food web.
 Identify a transfer of matter in the food web that goes from producer to
consumer.
 Identify any two of the organisms from the food web where the greatest
amount of energy is transferred from one level to another.

Questions 3.

 Make a food chain using the food web that contains a producer, a
herbivore, and a carnivore. Then draw a diagram showing how the
amount of energy changes in your food chain from producer to carnivore.
 An insecticide is sprayed that kills the grass and Blackberry Bushes.
Explain how each of the other populations of organisms will be affected.
 If all of the trees in the area were cut down, the energy supply of which
population would be most directly affected? How would an increase in the
oriole population affect the ecosystem?
 How would an increase in grasshoppers affect the rabbit population?
 Using evidence from the food web, explain why it is called a food “web”.
