Sample Problems - Boyle's Law

This document contains 4 sample problems demonstrating the application of Boyle's Law to gas behavior at constant temperature. Each problem describes an initial gas sample defined by its volume and pressure, and asks what the new pressure or volume would be if one of those variables changed while temperature remained constant.

Sample Problem 1:
At constant temperature, a sample of 6.0 L of O2 at 3.0 atm
pressure is compressed until the volume decreases to 2.5 L.
What is the new pressure, in atmospheres?
Sample Problem 2:
A sample of ammonia (NH3), a colorless gas with a pungent
odor, occupies a volume of 3.00 L at a pressure of 655 mm Hg
and a temperature of 25°C. What volume, in milliliters, will this
NH3 sample occupy at the same temperature if the pressure is
increased to 725 mm Hg?
Sample Problem 3:
At constant temperature, a sample of 6.0 L of N2 at 2.0 atm
pressure is allowed to expand until the volume reaches 9.5 L.
What is the new pressure, in torr?
Sample Problem 4:
A sample of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a toxic gas with a reddish-
brown color, occupies a volume of 4.00 L at a pressure of 725
mm Hg and a temperature of 35°C. What volume, in cubic
meter, will this NO2 sample occupy at the same temperature if
the pressure is decreased to 125 mm Hg?
